The Outsiders

The Outsiders
S. E. Hinton
pages:180

This week I have read chapter 3 of the Outsiders. I thought it was really interesting when Pony came home late and his brother got really mad at him and his brother Soda defended him and darry got annoyed because they were defending each other so they got into a fight and they were shouting until Darry(his older brother) slapped Ponyboy really hard. Ponyboy ran away with Johnny(a gang member) because he thought is brother didn't love him and didn't want him in the house .After a while Pony decided to come back home and just not talk to Darry. I think if I was in pony's situation i would just stay in my room and wait till I feel better. I am liking this book more because it seems a bit dark and exciting.

This week I’m reading The Outsiders.  I think the most interesting part is when Johnny killed the Soc at the park.  Ponyboy and Johnny run away from their homes and meet Dally at a party.  Here Dally supplies them with clothes, money and tells them to take the train to another town where they should hide in an abandoned church until the heat cools down. I would recommend this book to male preteens and teens that don’t usually don’t like to read.  I don’t usually enjoy reading but this book includes stuff I like such as gangs, guns, cars and switchblades.  I think it will be very interesting for others like me.

In the book Maus I learned about how resourceful the Jews were in WWII. They built hide-a-ways to stay away from the Nazis, they bought food with their precious gold and silver through the black market, and saved their daily rations of food and cigarettes to barter with.  This helped me think in a different way:  I thought about how I waste stuff and throw away food in the garbage –food to them was very valuable. I wonder how the food in Auschwitz looked and tasted, how it felt to be bitten by the lice and flies and how cold it must felt in the winter walking around in wooden shoes and thin prison uniforms.  This book teaches the reader to make use of what one has and be grateful for little things.

The technical word that I found was “kapo” (page 223).   According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapo_(concentration_camp) , “A kapo or prisoner functionary (German: Funktionshäftling) was a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp who was assigned by the SS guards to supervise forced labor or carry out administrative tasks in the camp.”   These kapos were fed well while the other prisoners only got bread with wood in it and watery soup.  They weren’t always mean but many kapos yelled at, beat and abused other prisoners.  I feel this was wrong but they only did it because they wanted to survive.

The Haunted Mesa ~Petra

The Haunted Mesa
Louis L'Amour

This week I am reading The Haunted Mesa by Louis L'Amour. L'Amour is known for the 'Western' style of writing, as a lot of his books are about cowboys and explorers with a taste for adventure. The Haunted Mesa is about a man named Mike Raglan, who's occupation is picking out fact and fiction of 'magic' tricks. When Mike's friend, Erik Hokart, suddenly disappears, Mike is obligated to find him. This quest brings Mike into the world of the Anasazi and their home in another dimension, leaving him to grapple with forces on two sides of the universe to save his friend. The most interesting part, I find, is this part I'm at now, when Mike has crossed from his world into the Anasazis' and has just set out to where Erik is being held captive. He is about to enter ruins where he should find a map explaining how to find his friend, when he comes across a man who was lost to that world years ago. This is particularly exiting because this man had evaded capture by the antagonists of the story for very long, despite that opposing force being quite strong. I would recommend this book to people who like science fiction and fantasy, and who enjoy reading about the possibilities of our world not being the only one.

Environmental Science

Hello Everyone!

This week I have decided to read a book about Science, and about living and non-living organisms.

I read about abiotic and biotic factors, populations, communities, ecosystems,  how to determine population size, changes in population size, limiting factors, adapting to the environment, and many other things. The most interesting thing I have learned about is animals defense strategies. I learned about how snakes use mimicry to defend themselves and keep themselves alive. Other defense strategies I learned about were false coloring, protective covering, warning coloring, and camouflage.  I would recommend this book to the people that enjoy reading about science, and the defense strategies animals use to keep themselves alive.

Edith's Story

The author of this book is  Edith Velmans. As you can see on the picture the name of the book is "Edith's Story ". The book has 238 phenomenal and very descriptive pages. This week I read about how her life in a way changed a lot since the beginning of the war. Her life was forced to change because of the Nazis, people of the Jewish religion had less and less things that they could do. For me the most interesting of the book was reading about her friends and what they would do in their spare time or what happened in the war and how it affected her. I recommend this book to all of the people who enjoyed the story "Diary of Anne Frank" because they two books have many things in common.

The Outsiders-Chapter 3

The Outsiders
Author: S. E. Hinton
Number of Pages: 180

In chapter 3 of "The Outsiders" Ponyboy's and Darry's relationship gets even worse and on the way back from the movies the greasers meet the socials once again. On the way back from the movies Ponyboy, Johnny, and Two-Bit were chatting to Marcia and Sherry/Cherry. All was going well until a car with six socs in pull up just behind them. Two of them come out of the car and start trying to fix the argument that they had with Marcia and Cherry. They said they were just a "little" drunk. Cherry shouted at them and saying that she will never go out with him again unless he learns to control his drinking habits. Cherry tells Ponyboy that they better leave and go with the socs, she says that she never wants to see Dallas again otherwise she will all in love with him. Ponyboy and Johnny decide to stay in the lot for a while and look at the stars. Ponyboy wasn't so sure of the time and he knew he had to be back at around 12 o'clock so he thought he has plenty of time. Both Johnny and Ponyboy fell asleep... Johnny had to wake Ponyboy up since it was way too late and he had to get back home or he would be in big trouble. He thought that Darry wouldn't have been awake and thought he could have sneaked through the house without anyone knowing he was out late. But, that wasn't the case. Darry was awake reading the newspaper on the armchair. When Ponyboy got into the house Darry started yelling at him and asking him where he had been. Ponyboy explained everything but Darry was still mad. Soda once again was defending Ponyboy and Darry was so mad and started to yell at Soda. Ponyboy started to defend Soda "You don't yell at him!" (Hinton, page 50). Then, Darry slapped him so hard that Ponyboy fell to the ground. Ponyboy wanted to escape and ran away to the lot. He woke Johnny up and they went to the park and walked around for a bit in order for Ponyboy to cool of. Ponyboy decided he would go back home after and he thought everything would get better...

The Outsiders

Name of book: The Outsiders
Author: S.E Hinton
Number of pages: 180

This week I read chapters 2 and 3 of "The Outsiders" written by S.E Hinton. So far, it seems like a very interesting book because the author catches the point of view of Ponyboy perfectly and makes it seem like I am reading the thoughts and adventures of real people. Also, I really like that the author describes each of the characters with a lot of detail so the reader can fully understand the characters personality. All of the "greasers" in the gang have very different personalities from each other. This week I read about Ponyboy's, Johnny's, Two-bits and Dally's trip to a drive-in theater. There, they met Cherry and Marcia, who were two "Soc" girls. After they talked to the two girls they found out that not all "Socs" were mean and not all of them hated the "greasers". I also read about Darry's anger when Ponyboy came home very late. Darry slapped Ponyboy after which Ponyboy decided to run away from his home with Johnny. My favorite part of "The Outsiders" so far was when Ponyboy and Johnny decide to run away from the gang, because I think that this was the most exciting part of the story and it made me want to read more! I would recommend this book to middle schoolers because it has some violent parts and words that younger kids might not understand.

The Outsiders - Jakub

The Outsiders
Author - S E Hinton
Number of Pages - 180

This week I was reading "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton, the book describes a boy named Ponyboy and his life, it tells about his family, his gang the greasers and the rival gang the Socs. This week I read how Ponyboy met to girls Marcia and Sherri (Cherry). Ponyboy talks to them at the cinema but when they leave he also leaves with Johnny, Johnny decides to sleep outside while Ponyboy returns home to get a slap from his older brother Darry, he runs away but soon realizes he should return. I would recommend this book to teenagers because thats the age of Ponyboy and majority of characters in the book. Teenagers would like the book because maybe some of them are experiencing same problems.

Wintersmith

The author of this book is Terry Pratchett who is a well known author who writes books for both children and adults. I personally really like his book as long as they are at my reading level otherwise i don't understand a thing of what he writes about if they are for a higher reading level. The name of the book I am reading is "Wintersmith" which is the third book of a series (i was stupid enough to start reading it before I check if this was the second book). The book has 240 pages.

The most interesting part was the beginning because at the beginning there where the Nac Mac Feegle talking with their funny ascent and there was lots of action and also Tiffany experimenting with a spell to try and melt the snow so she could save the new born lambs and her little brother Wenthworth. Then you understood that this was all just a possible future. I would recommended these books too anyone they are fun and interesting in my opinion.

I enjoyed reading "Sea dog Bamse World War II Canine Hero" and would recommend it to anyone who likes dogs or animals in general, adventure, non-fiction or fiction, for I can hardly believe that all the events described in the book are real. The most interesting part of the book was the part about Bamse’s adventures in Montrose, a small town on the East coast of Scotland.

The Outsiders

This week i have been mostly reading the book "The Outsiders" by S.E Hinton. So far out of what i have read my favorite part is when Pony boy and Johnny run away from there homes because Johnny murdered a kid from the greaser's rival gang "The Socs". I find this part interesting because i want to know what two kids would do who are wanted for murder.I would recommend this book to people who like a action and drama because there has been lots of fight in this book and it is about the rough life of a gang.

Going Solo

Title: Going Solo
Number of pages: 205
Author: Roald Dahl

Hey everyone! Finally, I have finished my book. Honestly, this is one of the most interesting book that I've read in my whole life!
This week I did not read too much, because I finished it almost two weeks ago. As I already menion in my previous blog posts, this is the book of Roald Dahl's life. He describes his adventures.
He had many obstacles that he actually on the end solved. He needed to get used to live without his mother, and on the end he solved that problem. He became responsible grown up person. Then, he joined World War I which was very brave of him. Suddenly his first flight, all alone in the plane, there was nobody that he could ask for help. Then his first festival with airplanes, which was destroyed. He went to the Middle East to fight Vichy French pilots after staying for a brief time in Alexandria, Egypt.
As you can see he had so many adventures. He had that special adventure spirit inside of him, which I was amazed of. He realized that he needed to take a risk. Those were really hard times, World Wars were all over the world and he actually joined them. He was really sensitive, and he had that special connection with his mother. On the end, he actually continued living more and more dangerous adventures, but of course non person on this world can live forever, that also includes him.
Wow! What an amazing book! I would rate it 9/10 for sure. I would recommend this to all people on this world, because it kept me interesting all time while I was reading it. it really has so many adventures and details of his life. This the book made for boys, because the way that author wrote it he wanted to interest male side, I can clearly see that, but I actually liked it on a really  weird way.
So, thank you for reading my blog posts and I really hope that you enjoyed them as much as I did! Thank you! :)

Eclipse

Title: Eclipse
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Pages: 559

Hello Everyone,

The book that I started reading this week is called Eclipse. The reason I am reading another book by Stephanie Meyer is because I really enjoyed the previous book I read from her. Something that I realized from reading her books is that they always hold some dark secret that makes you want to continue reading. Anyway, in this particular book, also known as Twilight 3 is about how both the vampires and werewolves are in trouble. They both have enemies which put Bella (the main character) in great danger. Some of the most important characters in the book are Bella, Jacob, Edward, and the rest of the Cullen clan. Another thing that occurs in the story is the fear that Bella is facing about having to choose between Jacob and Edward. As you probably have heard, or If you have read the previous books of this series, you may have came to a conclusion, whether or not, Bella should choose Edward or Jacob, however the decision she still hasn’t made. The climax or otherwise known as the highpoint of the story, is when other tribes, of immortal beings gather up to kill Bella, when she has been the chosen one, and when she knows about the immortal world, while she still remains a human. Due to this, other tribes all around the world, gather up, and start with the battle.

In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting books Stephanie has ever written. It has amazing description about the setting, characters, and the problems of the story. There is also a lot of dialogue which helped me understand the story, since it had many new words. I would give this story a rate of a 9/10, but I cannot jump to final conclusions when I haven’t finished the book. In conclusion, I would like to say that this book has won some awards, like “The International Number One Bestseller.” In the same year it was made, and the recommendations are very high, but don’t have many age restrictions.

The book talks about  the secret diary of Adrian Mole where he talks about his  days how did it go was there anything interesting I  his day. So far I finished reading the winter and the fall section of the book and I have been enjoying reading this book.
Outliers

Author: Malcolm Gladwell

Number of pages read: 35

FINALLY, I finished my book. Now I see how it was interesting book. Because I was reading two books, Outsiders and Outliers, I will describe most interesting part of the Outliers. In Outliers most interesting chapter is chapter 2, but most interesting part is about Bill Langen. Bill Langen had the biggest IQ ever recorded. In his private life he was a failure, but when he started Manhattan Project he was most cleaver person. So he tried to test his IQ and had the highest. I would recommend this book to everybody. It has parts for everybody. If you do not like one chapter you will like another one for sure. It is full of interesting parts.

This week I read, "The Outsiders." This is a really good book so far I have really enjoyed the excitement after the death of Bob, how Johnny and Ponyboy ran away to the abandoned church. It was really cool how Dallas helped them escape. I really enjoyed the tiny details the author took into account with the book. I especially liked how Johnny wrote a message in the dust telling Ponyboy where he was and how Ponyboy started to worry that he had been asleep for days and Johnny had died. It is a surprise that the author can capture these small details! I really enjoyed when Johnny brings back a bunch of baloney and after the few days they don't eat anything because they are so tired of baloney. These small details make the book really enjoyable and I also liked how when they went back to rescue the kids in the burning down church. This shows that even gangsters or in other words certain kinds of people that other humans don't like can be appreciated or in other terms heroes. The only problem is that Dallas, Ponyboy, and Johnny get injured especially Johnny. In conclusion, will they be alright specifically Johnny?  What will happen in the next chapter? I would recommend this book to ten years of age and up since so far this book is great and I have really enjoyed what I have read so far!

They live with their strange but very good aunt, who lives near a lake. Their very bad and smart uncle tries to kill their aunt, take the kids, marry the oldest girl and then take their fortune. The most interesting part that I read was when the bad uncle tried to kill the good, strange aunt. I recommend my cool, interesting book to everyone who likes adventure books and doesn't want to read a book about happiness!

Author: Erin Hunter
Title: Tigerstar&Sasha: Into the Woods
Number of pages: 93 (comic book)

Right now I am reading a Warriors comic book the series is called Tigerstar&Sasha and the book is called Into the Woods. I am reading this comic book right now because I am waiting for my knew books coming this Christmas. It is about the clans and connected with the warrior series about how the hated Tigerstar fell in live with the kittypet (cats who live with humans) Sasha. How she finds out about his horrible past and what he plans to do in the future and how Tigerstar loved power more than her... IN the series Sasha is unknown until much later when she comes to visit her two kits who live in Riverclan,so this comic is basically the real story of Sasha which was not written in the actual books. I would recommend this book to people who really like cats, like fantasy and have read the entire warrior series.

Currently I am reading a book called "The Outsiders" and till now I have read till chapter 3. Until chapter 1, I thought it is not a bad book, but I won't find it interesting. I also thought that the book seems a bit boring since there are only teenage boys and gangsters in it. But then when I got introduced to Cherry and Marcia, I thought this book would not be so bad at all. My favorite part of the book was when Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny meet Cherry and Marcia at the cinema. Rather than chapter two, I think most girls in my class and my age would like chapter 2 better than chapter 1. I liked the part when Cherry stands up to Dally and Johnny and Ponyboy takes Cherry's side so Dally can't do anything about it. I would recommend this to people who are interested in historical fiction books and people that are interested in the 60's. I think a person in our grade that would probably be interested in this book would be Ivan Cukanic because he is very interested in the 60's. :)

The Outsiders Chapter 3

Title: The Outsiders
Author: S. E. Hinton
Number of pages: 180

I already red the third chapter, so I am going to talk about what I red.
The chapter started with Cherry and Marcia. They need to go home, but their boyfriends are not with them so, Two-bit offer to lead the girls.
Later there was a conversation between Pony and Cherry. They think that they can talk about everything and to share some secrets. That's why Pony share one with Cherry about Soda's horse, named Micky Mouse. Actually it was not Soda's horse. It belonged to a person and Soda just obeyed to him. However, Soda loved this horse but when he was ten years old, Micky Mouse was sold.
Soon, they saw a blue mustang and they saw they SOCs, but they didn't noticed their girlfriends and Greasers.
The most interesting part for me was when Greasers and the girls saw the blue mustang again, but this time SOCs noticed others and got out of the car. Ponyboy saw that one of them was wearing many rings. He decided that this boy was the same boy that beat Pony. The SOCs asked girls why are they with Greasers and they were ready to beat Pony again. However Cherry said that she doesn't like battles and she and Marcia got  into the car with SOCs.
Later, Two-Bit and Pony decided to go and watch the stars but they got sleep. After 2 a.m. Two-Bit sent Ponyboy to his house. Ponyboy saw his brother, Darry, which was furious and slapped Ponyboy for late harvesting.
I will recommend this book to boys and girls (more to boys because the book is talking more about boys) who are coming teenagers. Also, I think the book is also good for people who are participating in group of people and if they have problems with another group or just, if they have problems with each other they should read the book, because it gives a lot of details about the problems between the gangs. :)

The Outsiders

Titile of book: The Outsiders
Author of book: S.E. Hinton
Number of pages: 180

This week I was reading "The Outsiders". In class we are reading this book but I really liked it so I continued reading it. So far my favorite part and the most interesting one is when Darry slapped Ponyboy. The reason this happened s=is because Ponyboy was standing up to his brother. Ponyboy thinks that Darry hates him to he runs away. This was a bit scary to read because a brother hitting a brother hard is not a very nice thing to do.  After you read this part you can't stop reading. I would recommend this to teens or people/kids who take things seriously and can manage to read something a little violent. I think that boys would like this book a little more than girls just because of that little violence that the book has.

Maus Blog Post 3/5

Art Spiegelman
Maus
296 pages

This week I’m reading a graphic novel about WWII called Maus. Basically I’m reading about the life of a man named Vladek and his wife who are trying to not get caught by the Nazi soldiers. They are building secret hideouts in the ghettos. Vladek explains, “In the kitchen was a coal cabinet maybe 4 foot wide. Inside I made a hole to go to the cellar. And we made a brick wall filled high with coal. Behind this wall we could be a little safe.” He built them for a small amount of Jews that didn’t want to go to Auschwitz.

In that turn of events he gets caught twice by the Gestapo but always ends up hiding somewhere else with his wife and another small group of Jew’s. In the end however, they get betrayed by a spy and are sent to Auschwitz. Read the book to find out if they survive or not.

Benazir Bhutto- The AutoBiography

Finished with Book of Benazir Bhutto

I am finished reading the book of Benazir Bhutto. The book was pretty mind-blowing because I have never actually read AND be interested in an autobiography. The most sad part was when her mother, brothers, and sisters were taken away to go to a police camp and were held until May, 1979. I haven't read the 3rd chapter of The Outsiders yet, but I am really looking forward to it. I would recommend the book, Benazir Bhutto: The Autobiography, to basically everybody because even though I was not a fan of Autobiography', this really was an amazing book, and could maybe change your life!

Author: Danny White
Number of pages: 241

The boys from One Direction  are Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. This week I read about Niall, Harry and Zayn. Something that I found out is that these three have divorced parents. That effected their childhood because it made them fell sad because they didn't want there parents to split up. When they were kids they all LOVED to sing because they had a lot of stress. Something that I also read about, is that they all went to the x-factor show.
