Jane Eyre had been been quite busy with her life recently. She as we heard in the previous post became a governess to Adele, a 9 or 10 year old French girl. Jane took care of her in Lowtown, a big mansion owned by Mr Rochester. Mrs. Fairfax is an old woman who stayed to take care if Adele, until Jane came. Adele is a sweet French girl, very fond Mr. Rochester, but that's not a big surprise because Adele is his daughter. However poor Adele didn't know that, and Mr. Rochester found it annoying. Mr. Rochester found it a pleasure to talk to Jane Eyre, for it was a very few times he went home.
Jane Eyre liked Adele very much, and she was very fond of Mr. Rochester stories he told when he was younger. But one night, Jane heard a terrible laughter coming from the third floor of the mansion. Then she smelt fire. She realised that Mr. Rochester's room was on fire. She saved his life, and Jane suddenly realised she like Mr. Rochester, and that she got many nice compliments from him. It was the first time Jane felt the feeling of love, she never felt love, but somehow she also felt uncertain, and sad for the very next day Mr. Rochester was gone again, and this time he was to return with other rich and beautiful ladies. Poor Jane she was now sure that Mr. Rochester didn't like her after all, because she was not as beautiful as the other ladies. She felt very sad of course, and she felt ashamed she felt that way, for Mr. Rochester paid for her job, and she was just working there, and now she was falling in love with the owner! But it was probably because she never loved anyone and she never felt loved that now she had a different feeling with Mr. Rochester.
But what's haunting Jane most of all is the laugh on the third floor, and why that lady on the third floor was actually trying to kill Mr Rochester...
