There are two themes to this book:
1. Don't trust too easily
2. Expect the unexpected
I think that these are the themes because the character is very trusting, and ends up trusting the enemy. Although the enemy seemed to be trustable, since she one of the FBI trainers of the confidential program, this was probably a bad decision, because Cassie (the main character) trusted her way too much at the beginning.
The second theme seems to be true because she doesn't think of the possibilities of who the killer wants to kill, or who she can trust, or what she can do to arrest the killer, or anything else. The main character does not often think about the future, and only the past, when her mother was murdered.
Thanks for reading this, everyone!
