Job: Summarizer

Hello!
So for our class started reading groups very recently and got a book to read and write blog posts about. For my group, the book chosen is "A Pickpocket's Tale". This book seems very interesting already even though I haven't read that much yet.

A Pickpocket's Tale" by Karen Schwabach is a novel that describes the struggles of living in the 1730's. Not just as a regular person as you may have thought, but as a thief. A 10 year old female thief. Molly Abraham has just been sentenced for stealing, and was ordered to leave to America by the court of London. Of course, like any other child, she didn't want to leave London and hoped to escape the ship. But what was making it harder for Molly is that she is an orphan, having no education at all either.
On the ship, Molly meets a nice woman named Mrs. Wilkes who helps her get through the ride and passes Hesper who she's already known. During the ride, Molly gets her shoes stolen by Hesper and not to mention has to sleep on piled of dead insects. When she thinks it cant get any worse than this, Molly gets sold to a Jewish man named Mr. Bell. He thinks of his doing as a favor to Molly but she is in great suffering.
When Molly comes to his house, there is many to greet her. There was Mrs. Bell, also known as Mr. Bell's wife. Arabella and Rachel, Arabella is a slave in the house for being born in that skin as Rachel, is just a young toddler. Adah, an old and negative woman and lastly David, who is the son of Mr and Mrs. Bell.
Molly is having a very hard time adjusting to this new family and helping them out with the water as a slave. But the Bells are treating her very well, she is just not used to it. They dressed her in fancy clothes and gave her a bath, but she was so surprised and not used to the new things, she thought they were trying to kill her. Because of this terrible thought, during dinner Molly surprisingly grabbed a knife from the table threatening to stab somebody!

They got lots of treasure after frighting several times with the pirates. I like this book, it let's me think a lot about the main characters, I thought some of them might be afraid of fighting, but both protagonist and antagonist are very brave and they all gets treasure.

Paranatural - Zack Morrison

The literature I've been reading for the last two weeks is a wonderful comic called Paranatural, drawn and written by artist Zack Morrison. It revolves around the adventures of a cynical 12-year-old, Max, who has just moved into a cheery town called Mayview. He's just discovered his ability to see supernatural beings, not exactly ghosts but not exactly demons either. A mix of the two and a few more things.

Two words that I didn't understand were shenanigans and spectral. Spectral actually just means 'of or relating to a ghost', and shenanigans just mean general tomfoolery or silly activities. (ex. The spectral shenanigans last Friday evening worried the townspeople, but not the ghost hunters.)

It is 225 pages long, coming in four chapters. There are bi-weekly updates of one page each.  I'd really recommend it to anybody who is into supernatural stuff--Max is actually a really funny character to follow through the story. The art style is colorful as well, so it's pretty easy to grab your attention.

You can read it here.  Be sure to turn off ad-block though, that's how the author can keep the site running!

The Brothers Karamazov (KOREAN version!) - Yoonji

Hello all, the current book I am reading is a classic novel titled 'The Brothers Karamazov', written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I read about 32 pages of the book. Anyhow, this book portrays the life and events through the lives of, of course, the brothers Karamazov, of all three unfortunate childhoods and a... (crazy) unstable father. The eldest, Dmitri Fyodorovich Karamazov, the (spawn of satan) one and only son from his father's first marriage, lost his mother at an early age, and grew up to become an unclean (rather debauchery (I'm sorry for using this word... but he is really debauchery)) adult, and perhaps the most impure of the three. However, the second son, Ivan Fyodorovich Karamazov, can be known for his intelligence, although he tends to be, perhaps, internal and serious, and faced the sheer reality at an early age, and I believe it is said that he expressed disgust to his father internally. Anyhow, the third and last son, Alexei Fyodorovich Karamazov, is marked by his direction toward pureness and kindness, therefore the most favorable of all three. He could be compared with his eldest brother in the case of Alexei representing pureness while his oldest brother holding the opposite quality. The youngest decided at an early age to dedicate his life to loving and respecting others, along with living the proper life, hence avoiding dirty doings such as the acts of his own father and his eldest brother. It is also noted that in his youth, the friends at his school often teased him due to his over-reaction when they discussed things such as... (mature content, etc. etc., okay, blackout). But he is said to be loved by most everyone, and interestingly capturing his father's attention and love, at times diverting him from his specialty, 'dirty doings'. Anyway, these brothers all suffered from not only the loss of their mothers, but the harshness of growing up through an unruly environment, added to the rather amazing ignorance their father gave them. Due to the lack of care, they were separated from their original households, raised by different hands. In the case of the younger two, they were taken by their dead mother's foster mother, a wife of a general. Although the wife maltreated their mother before her marriage to their (even worse) father, she generally did a considerably... satisfactory job of raising these two unlucky souls. They came to inherit a lot of money afterwards, for the death of the wife brought another person to raise them, using all his money, leaving the money the wife gave the children untouched and ready for use in the future, opening potential jobs and such, supporting the second son later on to hold a successful career. Anyhow, the first son was not very lucky for he was just raised by the servant and his uncle, not living such a beneficial life like his younger siblings.
I give my apologies if this seemed more like an explanation of the characters, but that is because that was the very thing the book presented in the beginning, and I am not close to being finished (ahaha). :)
"The autobiography of Branislav Nusic"
Hello, in this blog I will be talking about a book that I've been reading. This book is in Serbian and it is the autobiography of one of the most famous Serbian comedians ever. The author is logically Nusic himself since it is an autobiography. I've been struggling with reading this book since there are a lot old words unknown to me, sometimes even to my father. I found this book really funny because there are a lot of funny anecdotes which remind me of today's people or situations, even though the book was written in 19 hundred's. The humor in this book isn't cheap, this means that you need to be concentrated to get the humor. The two words that I did not understand were: cobble and comb. Of course I knew these in English and Serbian, but they were used in a very different, old way. Nikola lives in a cobble street (this is true). A comb is used to make hair look differently.

Pride and Prejudice/Sense and Sensibility

Hello,
This week was craaazily busy, with the play and everything, but this weekend I have got around to doing quite a lot of reading. I finished the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which consisted of 345 pages, and I also started reading Sense and Sensibility, also by Jane Austen (who is an amazing author) and I am about 20 pages through.
Since I have only read a few pages of Sense and Sensibility, I will do my summary of Pride and Prejudice, and simply include the difficult vocabulary from Sense and Sensibility. (SPOIIILErS INCLUDED)
In the last hundred 100 or so pages that I have read since last Sunday, a lot has happened. Lizzy has gone to the North of England with her Uncle and Aunt, to stay with them for a while. While in this northern area, the family goes to visit Pemberley, the home of Mr. Darcy and his younger sister, where they grew up. They are promised that none of the family in residence will be there while they are visiting, so they go look at the wonderful house and the beautiful gardens. They also speak to the house keeper, who gives an extremely high recommendation of Mr. Darcy. conflicting to the impression she has of him. Then Mr. Darcy turns up unexpectedly. Him and Lizzy basically spend the weekend together and she realizes that he is a nice person and that she sort of regrets declining his offer of marriage. Then, all of a sudden, it turns out that Lydia, Lizzy's youngest sister, has run off to Elope with Mr. Wickham. This causes a whole uproar considering no one knows where she is or what has happened to her. There are reports that that Wickham never intended to marry her anyway.
Suddenly, the whereabouts of the couple are revealed as well as money being paid to both parties, and a wedding arrangement agreed. The family accredits this behavior to their uncle, Mr. Gardiner. Then, in a huge reveal letter from the aunt it turns out that Mr. Darcy basically saved Lydia, and then Lizzy is VERY grateful, and then in a turn of events, Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy come to Hertfordshire, where they live and then Mr, Bingley and Jane fall in love again. In the end, Mr. Darcys proposal of marriage is renewed and accepted and Mr. Bingley proposes, and then everyone is married and happy and it turns out great. Three out of the five Bennet daughters end up married, and Mrs. Bennet honestly could not be happier. The end was generally what I expected to happen, but it was quite emotional considering that the book that I have been reading for an extremely long time, and a book which I enjoyed extremely much, had ended.
Now, upon finished Pride and Prejudice, I started the novel Sense and Sensibility, from which I found two words which I am going to share with you.
The first word is sanguine.
1. sanguine- optimistic or positive, especially in an apparently bad or difficult situation.
my sentence - Despite the decreasing chances of survival, she had a nonchalant, sanguine attitude.
The second word which I didnt understand was approbation.
2. approbation- approval or praise.
my sentence - Everything that I do, I do to seek approbation.
Thank you for reading :)

recipes

In my last blog post I wrote about a book I’m reading at this moment. Unfortunately this week I wasn't able to read any of it, mostly because of the play rehearsals. However I do have a subject to write about (I’m not completely sure if it’s a good topic to write about). Since my mom is currently in Poland, my dad and I are struggling with lunch and dinner ideas. We know how to make chicken, a salad and that’s pretty much where the list ends. Because of that,  I decided to read some recipes and articles about cooking. There is a bunch of that in the internet! The first recipe I read about was how to make chicken breasts with coating. I kind of knew how to do that before, but I wanted to be sure I’m right. I got the info from this polish site: http://kotlet.tv/. So, on the site it said to dip the washed and salted meat into one egg, mixed with two table spoons of milk. Next, roll it in breadcrumbs and put it on an oiled pan. Done! That was a surprisingly easy recipe that I used for a long time. The next recipe I wanted to try out was the avocado paste. I love eating all kinds of pastes, so I thought that would be a good sandwich topping. I got the idea from http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/perfect_guacamole/, yet I barely used any of the ingredients mentioned in there. What I used to make it was of course avocados (I only used a half of an avocado, because the other half was literally hard as rock), tomato, a bit of cheese, 2 tea spoons of soy sauce, a pinch of wasabi, ½ tea spoon of lemon and probably something else I don’t remember. I mixed it all together and spread it on some bread. The food I made was extremely easy but I’m just learning. I acknowledged some words I did not understand like:
To acidulate- to add lemon, vinegar or acid to a meal to make it more sour and stronger.
“Stuff the duck meat with some lemon and orange skin to acidulate it”
Bake blind – to bake the dough before adding the ingredients like cheese or vegetables in it.
Because my dad invited some guests over, I decided to make a tart with smoked salmon and
asparagus. To do that I first had to bake blind the dough. After roasting the pastry, I added
asparagus with salmon and baked it again.

I do have some polish lectures I could have had summarized, but they are so weird and boring that I barely know what’s happening in them. And most of the words I don’t understand (which is almost every in the book) don’t even exist in English.
I'm sorry for the quality of the picture. It looked better in real life.

Flash Flood

Hello guys and this week I read Flash Flood by Chris Ryan. So far (100 pages) I liked the book a lot. It had a lot of interesting moments. One thing that could make the book better would be to remove or shorten the boring bits so that the reader did not get bored. So far the main character has traveled to london and unexpectedly a flood came out of nowhere. So far, there are no words I did not understand. This was quiet surprising for me because usually Chris Ryan's books are pretty hard to read. Althought A book that is harder to read would be better for me, this has a lot of pages and there could still be more hard words that could be coming later in the book.

TALES OF TROY AND GREECE

Pages read: 25/256
Author: Andrew Lang

Hello dear blog readers! I have recently started a new book, and I am looking forward to reading it. I decided to read this book I have had for a long time, but I was never bothered to read it. It is called: "Tales of Troy and Greece" by Andrew Lang. The book is basically a large collection of Greek myths, told by the author, in his way. The book is very detailed when describing the setting and the events, and it differs from other versions of the myths. I started reading the first myth in the collection, and it is the famous tale about Ulysses (Odysseus, called Ulysses in the book) and how he went to the city of Troy to fight for Helen, the stolen princess. In this post, I will summarize what I read so far, and only this one story. Here it is:

Ulysses was born on the island of Ithaca, a small island roughly somewhere in the Aegean sea. He was of noble blood, as his he was the son of the king Laertas, who ruled this small island. As a young boy, he was very adventurous. He liked going hunting with his father, and loved listening to the stories of heroes fighting terrible beings. As he grew up, he became a wise and strong young man. One on occasion, he got a scar that would be of crucial importants later in the tale. While hunting a wild boar, we was wounded, but he still slew the beast. As well, after that near death situation, he became more wise and intelligent. While Ulysses was still relatively young, a terrible crime hit Greece that would result in a terrible and bloody war that was to last for many years. This is were the true tale of Ulysses begins. The beautiful princess known as Helen, was stolen by a young and strong man known as Paris. After stealing Helen, chaos erupted in the lands of the Greeks. Everyone, wanting to kill the one who did the this terrible deed, raised an armada of ships, and huge armies and went to battle versus the Trojans, who stole Helen. Hundreds of cities were involved in making this huge armies, no matter how far away in the Greek realm they were. Ulysses's small island, was affected too. Ulysses led his armies to battle, and left his wife, and his son back at Ithaca. Though as brave as Ulysses was, he was not the main character nor leader in the battle for Troy. The leader of the Greeks was a man by the name of Achilles, who's armour was said to have been crafted by Hephaestus, one of the Greek gods at Olympus. As the armies of the Greeks landed on shore, they found themselves in a very bad situation. Though the military might of the Greeks was more dominant than the one of the Trojans, the enemies of the Greeks had, realizing the superiority of their enemy, retreated into the city itself. Troy was guarded by huge stone walls, seemingly impregnable, and from that position the Trojans could hold any assault by the Greeks. This is were I stopped reading, and in the next part of the story, I assume that the Greeks will attack the Trojans, which will lead to some consequences for both sides. Here are two interesting words I found, their definition, and their usage in a sentence that matches the word:

Word #1: Renounce. Definition: To give up, or put aside voluntarily.

Sentence: "I am going to renounce my share of the treasure due to very specific reasons."

Word#2: Dismount. Definition: to remove (a thing) from its mounting, support, setting, etc.

Sentence: "A huge amount of dismounted warriors assaulted the gates of the city."

I hope you enjoyed my blog post, and tune in for more!

City Of Fallen Angels

Hi guys,

I have just started reading the City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare which is the fourth book of the  Mortal instruments series,  I have so far read 226 out of 434.

Here is a picture of the book:              I am very sorry if you do not understand the terminology I am using from the book, since this is the fourth book it is very hard to explain.
The main characters in this book is Clary who is a shadow hunter, Jace who is her boyfriend who is also a shadow hunter, Clary's best friend who is called Simon who is a vampire and Issabelle who was dating Simon and is a good friend to Jace and Clary.
So far in the book Simon still has not told his mom that he is a vampire and one night she figured it out but Simon laid a spell on her that she forgets about him being a vampire, but just in case he moved out and went to live with his friend who is a werewolf. Simon is going through a lot of problems such as that he is the only vampire that can stand in the sunlight and  strangers that I still have not found out who they are, are keep on attacking him but Clary's rune is protecting him, Clary has a special talent that she can make new runes on people, so she made a protecting rune on Simon. Clary's mother is soon getting married to a werewolf that has been taking care of them for such a long time that Clary calls him uncle, so she does not have a problem with that, but i have a feeling that something is going to happen that they will have to call it of.
Two words that are new to me are foment and discord.
Foment means instigate or stir up (an undesirable or violent sentiment or course of action).
Mu friend and her enemy surprisingly showed no signs of foment during the lunch.
Discord means disagreement between people.
My friend and I always discord on something.

Golden Filly - Lauraine Snelling

Hello,
These past few days have been long and tiring with play and schoolwork, but I have started  to read a book. Right now I'm reading the Golden Filly by Lauraine Snelling. There are two collections of the book, and five books in each collection. The first book, The Race consists of 123 pages. There will be a summary of what I have read, and then a few interesting or new words that I have found.
Tricia Evanstan has a passion that she shares with her father about horses. She is being trained from her father to be a jockey, and they both have ambitious desires to win the Triple Crown in the horse race. Although their family seems to love horses, Tricia's mother didn't, she hated horses, she wished that her husband did not encourage their obsessions of horses. Suddenly her father became very sick, and he slowly started to pass away. Things are tough all around, especially in their household.
There were also a few words that I found intriguing in this book. The first word is "Furlong".Though I know this word already, I thought it had quite interesting name, so I decided to write about it. A furlong is an amount of distance such as a kilometer or a mile. It is equivalent to 220 yards, and 201. 16800 meters. In a sentence, you could say "Just another furlong, then the black mustang can be running free." Another word I found was jockey, it's a person who rides horses as a profession. If you wanted to use this word in a sentence you could say, "He's a former champion jockey."
Well that's about all I have read so far, and I hoped you enjoyed this post :)

Warrior Cats: Moonrise.

Warrior Cats: Moonrise is about 4 cat clans whose home is endangered by humans. The clans are Thunderclan, Riverclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan. Each clan has a different environment and prey that it hunts. The humans are building roads through their homes, so Starclan (cat heaven) sends 4 cats a prophecy to find a new home. Those 4 cats are Brambleclaw (Thunderclan), Feathertail, (Riverclan), Tawnypelt (Shadowclan), and Crowpaw (Windclan). Squirrelpaw, Brambleclaw's friend, finds out and decides to follow him. Feathertail's brother, Stormfur, doesn't want anything to happen to Feathertail, so he decides to go with her. That makes 6 cats.

In this book, the 6 cats journey into the mountains to find the new home. They meet a tribe of cats that is unfamiliar to them, and they say that Stormfur will save them from a mountain lion that takes cats from the tribe almost every day. They keep Stormfur prison and force him to fight the mountain lion. When it arrives, he is shoved into a cave with it, but his sister won't leave him there and joins him in the fight.

The Death Cure by James Dashner | The Maze Runner Book Three

Pages Read 68/327

For this week's blog, I continued reading "The Death Cure" by James Dashner. Due to tons of schoolwork, our school play, and after school activities, I didn't get to read much. However, this is what has happened so far.

Thomas, the protagonist, and the rest of his group safely arrived at WICKED's lair. They expected to receive a cure for the Flare, a deadly disease which makes you go insane, but instead got told that most of them are actually immune to the disease. Those of which are not immune, like Newt (one of Thomas' dearest friends), will get even more affected by the Flare and will die rather quickly if a cure is not found soon. In order to find a cure WICKED has to collect Gladers' brain patterns through many challenges and trials. (Gladers are the people who are being experimented on) After completing the Scorch Trials in the previous book ("The Scorch Trials"), WICKED brings more assignments for the Gladers. In this book, Thomas went through a patience test in which WICKED put him in an all white room for four weeks. They wanted to see how long it would take Thomas to go insane and try absolutely anything just so he can get out. Afterwards, the WICKED team allowed him to take a shower and gave him fresh, clean clothes and lead him into a room in which sat all of Thomas' group-mates. Thomas sat down and WICKED had another announcement to make. They gave all the Gladers an option of getting their memories back. In order to do that, specialists would remove a certain chip from the Gladers' heads. To this, Thomas said no. There are a couple simple reasons why. Firstly, WICKED is clever and how could the Gladers know that their memories are actually what they experienced before this testing started. Secondly, Thomas and another one of his group-mates Teresa discovered they are able to use telepathy. Teresa and Thomas are best friends though Thomas is in love with her. From the first day them two met, they talked telepathically almost every day. If Thomas agreed on getting his memory back, he'd lose his telepathic ability. Losing it is a scary thought and the main reason he's holding back on this opportunity.
After rejecting to get his memory back, Thomas gets together with Minho and Newt and them three discuss about ways of escaping WICKED's lair. Their long discussion ended and they fell asleep. After a warm and long sleep, WICKED announces the Gladers are getting their memories back, like it or not.  Thomas was shocked and agitated, it was time to do what he should have done a long time ago. He gathered with Minho and Newt and all three decided they are going to try to escape from this torturous place. The next morning, they were onto it. Thomas, Minho, and Newt sneaked out early morning and tried to go through the lair without catching the guards' attention. Unfortunately, the guards noticed them and tried to stop them. Brenda, a girl that works for WICKED but is Thomas' friend, showed up as well. Surprisingly, she tried to help the three Gladers escape. But before she made it clear she's helping Thomas and the other two, she played out a murder attempt on Thomas. She said she would shoot him if she moves, pointed the gun at his face, but moved it towards other guards afterwards. Brenda shot all other guards and ran along with Thomas, Minho and Newt. The chapter ended with them seeing Rat Man, a guy dressed up in all white, and we still don't know if the four got what they wanted the most; freedom.

As for two unknown words, they are slew and tentative.

"And when he did, his dreams were a slew of scattered images and memories." (Dashner 43)
Slew means a violent or uncontrollable sliding movement and a sentence it could be used in is; "The slew of our car affected my vision."

"As she watches her she picks up a cup of steaming liquid and takes a tentative sip." (Dashner 43)
Tentative means hesitant and a sentence it could be used in is; "I took a tentative step up a hill."

Well, I hope to finish this book soon. It's exciting, interesting, and extremely joyful!

I hope you had fun reading!

Paper Towns

Paper Towns

Paper Towns, by John Green, is the novel I have currently read 73 pages of. Throughout this novel I have become familiar with the characters of Quentin "Q" Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman, as well as Ben Starling and Marcus "Radar", who are the best friends of Q.

As the story kicks off we are met with nine year old Margo and Q who find the dead body of a middle aged man, in the children's park. From there the two stopped talking, until one day during their senior year Margo comes through Q's window in the middle of the night asking to borrow his car. After which the two go on a wild hunt to avenge all the wrongs done to them, with twelve carefully planned out schemes. With which they break into SeaWorld, leave flowers for one of Margo's friends, but also leave catfishes for three others.

Two words I have found in this novel that were unfamiliar to be me were: adjacent and Bonam Noctem. The first adjacent means next to or adjoining something, this word was found on the page 17. Meanwhile, Bonam Noctem is a Latin phrase meaning "seize the night", just as the other word I found on that same page, page number 70, Carpe Diem is a Latin phrase meaning "by the day". The sentences that I have created using each other these words are: as I walked by, I noticed that the two buildings were perfectly adjoining. As well as, even though throughout the day nothing was done, I still managed to Bonam Noctem (seize the night).

dutch skype chats

Hello everybody, i am Cosmo and today i will be writing about something that i recently enjoyed, dutch skype chats. as i invited Per (Malmin) over for a sleepover this weekend, i invited him to a skype chat with my dutch friends from summer camp. they weren't the nicest people in the whole world, and it was a barrel of laughs because Per didn't know any Dutch. as we continued our conversation Per started looking up words and i just got laugh attack after laugh attack. anyway, the "authors" of the skype chat were Per, me, two boys named Dennis and Leon and two girls named Kelsy and Wendy, (not Gwendy but Wendy :)). there were no defined pages in the chat either. some examples of the text was like:

who are you guys??
umm were just friends.
well go away please.
hey you dont have to be that mean.
eh thats just how we are.

surprisingly enough, i got some new vocabulary from the extraordinary 'event'.
1. the abbreviation WDJ - what are you doing in dutch
"wdj wendy" -Kelsy

2. interventing - it means inventing, but typed poorly.
"Cosmo, interventing isn't a word" - Per.
"Yes it is, i just intervented it" - Cosmo

Thank you for reading this blog post!
p.s. im sorry for my punctuation ):

Sky Tsuda Pillsbury

This chapter is about a memory. It's nothing like I've read before,
unique and interesting. The first bit, is explaining about a new
character named Cathasach. It's a normal introduction until she
said that his parents are fighting but not in a mental way. They
fought both mental and physical way. His parents weren't like most,
they were supernatural creatures. His father was an angle and his
mother a demon, and they would fight with their strengths and
powers. They weren't fighting on their own will, they were
commanded to by their masters. And if they did this fight, they're
children would stay safe. They're masters promised this if they
would finish one final mission: eliminate one another. Cathasach
was with his newborn sister. Her name was Seraphina. After a
while the police came and found Cathasach and Seraphina. Cath
was worried for his sister and parents. Then an officer informed
the others that the both parents were dead. The police department
took the kids and were set in foster homes. But the children had
to be separated. Cath was bullied in his foster home from some
other kids. But Cath stood up for himself. One kid went up to the 99 year old
care taker and wined at her. That was the first time Cath ever used
his powers.

Thanks Sky. That was a really great chapter. xD :D :P

Gangsta Granny

David Walliams
28/250

this week I am reading Gangsta Granny. This book is about a boy named Ben. Ben's parents love dance and watching "Dancing with the stars". This Friday they drive him to his grand mother like
every Friday because it is their day. Today they are going to watch the show in audience. Ben does not like the idea being with his grandma because, as he says: "she smells like a cabbage and the only things what she wants to do with him is to play scrabble". This his saying proves to be right because as soon as his parents drop him off at her place and grandma opens the door there is a huge cloud of cabbage smell coming out. Grandma welcomes him: "I prepared scrabbles and your favourite cabbage soup is ready for you!" Ben listed the things what he disliked about his grandma, some of these are: "he dislikes her hearing aid, her old fashioned dress, the fact that she does not have a TV, she farts, she farts and she forces Ben to read". Who would like to visit his grandma?

Ben is not very sincere with her as he lies to her about how the soup is tasty and ok. He is being hypocrite. This word I did not understand so I found its definition: a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions.
I am reading this book in Czech language and so far I understand all words.

Divergent #2

How is it going guys? Today I'm here to tell you abut a great book called "Divergent". The creator of this master piece is called Veronica Roth. It is 487 pages long and so far I read 242. I enjoyed reading every single page of the book so far. Now let me tell you a little bit about it.
In my last post I described how everything started. Now Beatrice is in Dauntless, her new faction. She had to get a new name because she changed faction and her new name is Tris. Tris started her initiation program to become a Dauntless. The initiation program is split into two stages. The first stage is focused on the physical part and the second one on the mental part. So far only the first stage was described. In the first stage the transfer initiates and the Dauntless-born were separated. In the first stage they had to  fight and go paintball. Tris fight twice and she lost once and won once. In the paintball game she was the reason her team won. I don't want to really spoil the book so you should read and see how she helped them ;)
The two words that I didn't know are:
  1.  brawl- a noisy quarrel, squabble, or fight;
She was close to start a brawl in the dormitory.

     2. dull- not sharp, blunt;
I love its beautiful orange flowers, which certainly brighten up the dull days of February.

The Land of Stories- The Enchantress Returns

This week I am reading "The Land of Stories- The Enchantress Returns" which is by Chris Colfer, has 517 pages out of them I have read 38 pages. This is book is part of a series and I am reading the second book. So far, the main Characters, Alex and Conner, are experiencing the aftermath of going into a magical world and their Grandmother [Who is also Cinderella's Fairy Godmother] disappearing. Alex, Conner and their mother are still overcoming their Father/Husband's death and get a dog. Thats about all that has happened so far. I know the story sounds extremely childish but its really not!

The two words that I didn't know and rarely use are

Thespians- An Actor or Actress performing the dramatic arts or displaying a tragedy.

The Thespians were performing a reenactment of Romeo and Juliet.

Dispose- To put in a particular or suitable place.

The students were taught to dispose their garbage in the right place.

"Side Effects" by Jen Calonita

"Side Effects"

by Jen Calonita

83/245 # pages read

Hey! So today I will be writing about a new book that I am reading!
"Sometimes the best way to escape the harsh realities of life is to make musical fantasies out of them" Whitney thinks. I am reading a book called "Side Effects" by Jen Calonita. This book was introduced to me when I was watching a YouTube channel named AwesomenessTV which produced a movie called side effects. I watched the movie, and it was very emotional and interesting. After half a year of watching this movie, I found out AwesomenessTV also wrote a book which is actually based on this movie.
"Side Effects" is about a family of 5 teenagers who has lost their mother, and a few months later, their father disappeared and ran away from the houses and the troubles of paying the bills. Each child has their own way of dealing with the situation.
The protagonist of the story is a teenage girl named Whitney who is taking medicine for her depression with loosing both of her parents and her siblings. Her medicine has side effects that make musical fantasies out of everything.
Sam, Keith, Lexi and Jason are dealing with the situation in different ways. Keith is the oldest and is taking care of the family. Lexi, the smartest girl in her grade, (or at least she used to be the smartest) has left everything and ditched school for parties and ways to distract her from reality. Jason, Lexi's twin has quit baseball and hasn't attended school for so many days that he probably wont pass the semester. The youngest child of all, Sam, has to deal with being ignored and unwanted.
So far, I read up to the point where everything has gone wrong and Lexi comes back home from a party at late night bleeding and hurt. Whitney told her family that she knew that their dad left but she was afraid everyone would get mad at her, and they did. Keith screamed and Jason blamed her for ruining the family,
Whitney decided that she cant deal with what is happening, so she decided running away to follow her father with the clues he left is the only chance to fix her family. But exactly when she is about to get out the door, Sam finds her and want to join. They get in the car and are about to drive, but then Harry, A good friend of their father's shows up and explains how he herd that the fuzz suspects that their dad robbed a diner.
Keith, Jason and Lexi show up, and reveal the news about losing their house to Sam and Whitney. They decide to go on a road trip in order to track down dad and to remember what they all are.
Family.

Sentence: "He looks like a neanderthal" I thought as I looked at Joe with that receding forehead and those prominent brow ridges.

Sty (page 20) -
noun; pigsty (place for pigs), can be used to describe a messy place.

Whit and Gold or Blue and Black?

https://www.dogonews.com/2015/3/6/white-and-gold-or-blue-and-black-the-great-dress-debate

By: Jennifer Farrell

March 6th, 2015

A dress had taken over our lives for nearly a week. This innocent picture of a dress went viral and the center topic for debate. However, my short summary is not just a fashion debate, but a scientific one as well; explaining the reason behind seeing four colors.
So first, how do we see colors? A simple question really. White light is made of the rainbow and other colors we cannot see. If we were looking at a red apple, then all the colors of the rainbow except red would be absorbed and the red would be reflected. The red light ray passes through the lens of our eyeball and to the retina. The retina sends signals to our brain depending on the different wavelengths and we see that apple as red.
You may be wondering what this has to do with some people seeing white and gold, and others blue and black. You see, sometimes, the light can affect the hues and shades of the color, for example, the early morning sunlight causes us to see differing shades of red and pink. Our brain however, is clever, and most of the time removes this extra light and shows the true color. As I said, most of the time. Sometimes it creates an optical illusion. People who see's the bright background notice that the dress is made of darker material and see black and blue. Others see that the dress is reflecting lots of light and the brain says it is white and gold. Sadly, once seen one way, it is hard to see another. Oh, and the dress is BLUE AND BLACK.

Query:
noun: a question, especially one expressing doubt or requesting information.

I queried about the upcoming test on pandas and pigs.

Disparity:
noun: a great difference.

There was a massive disparity between panda lovers and piggy lovers.

Tales of Ancient Egypt-Roger Lancelyn Green

The book I'm currently reading is Tales of Ancient Egypt by Roger Lancelyn Green. I've read till page ninety two. I chose to read this book because our English teacher announced that we are going to write a history novel in the next quarter, so I decided to read some history fictions or tales that already exist.
This book is telling us tales of Ancient Egypt from 3200 B.C. until 30 B.C., divided in to three categories which are tales of the Gods, magic, and adventure. I've read all of the tales of Gods, and I find it very amusing. The more I read, the greater the curiosity. I never knew the theory of world's creation of Ancient Egypt, and it's quite fascinating that the people in thousands of years before had thought of such things with great imagination. I have always thought of Egypt as a mysterious and magical country with bunch of pyramids, so I have been curious about who was the first to be buried in a pyramid, how the people had built the gigantic pyramids, who was the fist pharaoh, or how the people had lived in Ancient Egypt. I was gripped when I started reading this book, and I couldn't stop flipping the pages.
Word 1 expedition
Definition a journey undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration, research, or war.
Sentence The pharaoh was worried but excited to go on his first expedition.

Word 2 reverent
Definition feeling or showing deep and solemn respect.
Sentence Everyone could feel that he was showing great reverent to his pharaoh.

The Scorch Trials - James Dashner

Pages read: Finished the book

Hello everyone! The book I just finish reading is The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. This book is a science fiction book, and since I watched the movie and read the first book a while ago, I decided to give the second book in the series a go. The book begins with Thomas, the main character, waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall asleep again. Outside the room, he hears people panicking about some people who are the Cranks and are infected by the Flare. Thomas and his friends, the Gladers, go outside to see what's going on and find a room that says "Teresa Agnes. Group A, Subject A1. The Betrayer." Teresa is one of the Gladers and Thomas' partners from the first book. They go on finding more of the plaques and finally they get to a room with a man sitting in the middle. That man is Rat Man. Rat man tells them to go to the Scorch, which is a burned out section of land. They all get the Flare and he says that they will receive the cure when they reach the end of their destination. They walk out and get tattoos on the back of their necks, each tattoo is a role that they received from the WICKED people. They go on their long trek and face many obstacles. In the end, Thomas was so deeply infected by the Flare, that he dies. This book was very detailed and descriptive, and it made me be able to picture the scene and situation they were in.

Two words that were interesting:
Machete - a heavy knife used as a weapon. It originated in the Caribbean and Central America.
New sentence: Our opponents were stronger than us, we had only our fists to fight with, but they had new and polished machetes to defend themselves with.

Sludge - thick and soft mud.
New sentence: As we walked on the sidewalk, we were saving ourselves from having to walk in that sludge.

Pretty Little Liars

One of the books I’m reading at this moment is “The Pretty Little Liars” by Sarah Shepard. I’m currently on the 6th book (Killer), 2nd chapter. I started reading it a few days ago and it’s already filled with a bunch of new events. So basically the whole series is about a girl from Rosewood named Alison and her friends Aria, Hannah, Spencer and Emily. Some time ago Alison somehow got murdered and the rest of the girls are trying to find out who did it and how it happened. The 6th book starts with a little reminder of how Alison and the girls met. Emily, Aria, Hannah and Spencer wanted to steal Ali’s school flag; meanwhile they realize that it has already been stolen. The 2 words I have not understood were trellis and embroidered. I could kind of get the meaning from the context but I still wasn't sure enough.
Trellis – a wooden/sometimes metal frame used to support plants. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/trellis
In the novel the narrator described Alison’s old house, which had a few trellises laying against the wall.
Embroidered – (embroidery) a kind of decoration used on clothing. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/embroidery
The reason for this word occurring in this book was because of Ian’s coat. Ian is a character suspected for killing Alison. He just owned a coat with “embroidered” patches.

The Canterbury Tales or Geoffrey Chaucer's Flying Circus - Cosmo 7B

Hello world.
Today i have been chosen to write about an assignment to what i have been reading lately.

Okay so i am participating in this middle school play based on the canterbury tales this year, and its a comedy based on the old manuscripts of geoffrey chaucer in middle english writing, about pilgrims trekking to canterbury, telling each other fascinating stories. the stage play is written by Burton Bumgarner.

I am Chanticleer, the snobby rooster who believes to be first place in everything, with a tale about a fox and how we shouldn't think so great of ourselves with flattery and everything.

So whilst I was memorizing my lines for the production of this play, I stumbled across some words i did not know the meaning off at first, here they are.

Fictitious
fictitious is not genuine, but something especially made for fiction. When someone says they are fictitious, (in the play Gwendy / Arabela) it means they were invented just for that part of a fiction tale.
"But I'm Fictitious" - Harry Bailey

Psychoanalysis
this is a term used for medical issues between the conscious and sub-conscious. Sigmund Freud, a german therapist especially studied this, and it is in a line involving Chanticleer.
"Sigmund Freud, my lovely Pertelote, the father of modern psychoanalysis" - Chanticleer

in total 47 pgs

thank you for taking your time to read this blog post, I hope you have a very nice day

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I literally finished reading Me Before You this morning and although it was extremely depressing and strange to say the least, I very much enjoyed it.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Me-Before-You-Jojo-Moyes-ebook/dp/B0065GC0BA ( Image )

Louisa Clark is a 27 year old who still lives with her parents and is basically the main supporter of her family as she works at the Buttered Bun, a cafe. As you probably guessed Louisa's family is very poor. This makes it even harder for them when the Buttered Bun closes and Louisa is left without a job. Surprisingly ( surprisingly because Louisa's CV basically comprises of nothing except that she worked at the shabby cafe and in a chicken factory ) she finds a job fairly quickly as a carer. She is employed by a rather 'strict' woman whos son is a quadriplegic ( meaning that his arms and legs are completely paraylzed.

When Louisa first works for the quadriplegic, Will, he comes across as grumpy and blunt but when she gets to know him, Louisa discovers a different Will, and kind of starts falling in love with him. But, she overhears his mother and sister talking about his previous suicide attempts and how they persuaded him to give them six months until they will consent to his suicide. Louisa then realizes that the reason she has been employed is simply to try and make Will see life differently, beyond his wheelchair, and try to prevent him from killing himself.

i know, I know, it sounds extremely depressing, but actually it was pretty amazing. I strongly suggest it unless medical things creep you out...

This book was really complex, but its vocabulary was pretty basic so I decided to get my two words from the book I started reading approximately 20 minutes ago: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, which definitely does not lack difficult words.

Word #1: ligature
Definition : anything that serves for binding or tying up, such as a band, bandage or cord. A metal band used for securing wind instruments.
Ex. It's so annoying, the ligature on my clarinet broke yesterday and I have to get a new one

Word #2: ballad
Definition : A simple narrative poem of folk origin, composed in short stanzas and adapted for singing.
She recited something that was like a poem but had melody and said it was called a ballad.

Lost in London

Lost in London, by Cindy Callaghan, is about a girl named J.J. who goes to London as a foreign exchange student. When she gets there, her host (Caroline) greets her in a very cold manner. The next day, Caroline takes her out to meet her friends and go shopping. They play a game of hide and seek in a huge tower of shops, and J.J. falls asleep in a store called Daphne's. She accidentally sleeps until closing time, and Caroline and her friends think she went home already. J.J. calls them and Caroline comes back for her. They give each other makeovers and take some clothes to wear. They put the money on the desk and try not to get caught by the nightly security guard. That same night, Caroline's enemy finds the footage and threatens to post it online if they don't do his homework after someone robs Daphne's. The thieves are believed to be Caroline and J.J.

Word 1: Harrumph.
Meaning: Clear throat noisily.
Sentence: He tried to get his friend's attention, so he harrumphed.

Word 2: Montage.
Meaning: A sequence of film.
Sentence: It's going to be a photo montage.

Pride and Prejudice

Hello All!
This week I have been reading the classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Currently I am on page 216 of 325 and I am really enjoying it! The plot is quite farcical yet enjoyable and the language is wonderful. My family and I are also watching the British Television program alongside my reading it, and it is fantastic and I am slightly obsessed. Alison Steadman's (OBE) portrayal of Mrs Bennet cannot be beaten.
Pride and Prejudice centres around the 'Bennet' family, of 5 daughters, one mad mother and a father who tries to escape the foolishness of his family by reading.
The main goal of Mrs Bennet is to marry off all five of her daughters, all between the ages of 15 and 23. She wishes her daughters to marry into richness and prosperity, considering her family isn't particularly rich. Now, the logistics of her daughters getting married are slightly complicated.
The antagonist of Pride and Prejudice is Elizabeth Bennet, the second eldest daughter. She is one of the most sensible along with her elder sister Jane. All sorts of drama happen with Eliza (as she is called) and Mr Darcy and his best friend Mr Bingley, and his sisters. At the start of the novel, Mr. Darcy, a rich young bachelor, labels Eliza as 'not handsome enough to tempt me'. This starts off a hatred between Eliza and Mr Darcy.  Now, this is all very awkward because Mr Darcy soon realizes doesn't hate Eliza, and actually decides he loves her and then proposes, and she says no, considering she thinks he is a hateful and spiteful man, but this opinion stems from her thinking that Darcy separated Jane from the love of her life (which he basically did) and also because Mr. Wickham, a man that Jane liked and danced with, various times, said that Darcy kicked him out of house and home, leaving him to join the military. This whole affair is rather complicated and there is a lot of confusion. Then there are the younger sisters, Lydia, Kitty and Mary, who are getting into all sorts of trouble, running off with officers. Eliza also has other problems of her own, with the man that will own the family estate after Eliza's father's death proposing to her (which she rejects) and then him proposing immediately afterwards to her best friend. The drama never quite seems to cease.

While reading this week I just selected two random words that I didnt know the actual meaning of, that I could define and share the meaning of. The book itself has quite a few words that are unknown to me as the language is quite old.

1. apace
"...and all the young ladies in the neighbourhood were drooping apace." (Austen 194)
apace - adverb meaning swiftly/quickly
an original sentence using apace- "You write apace, but your handwriting is horrendous."

2. inconvenience
"...suitableness as companions; a suitableness which comprehended health and temper of bear inconveniences..." (204)
inconvenience- noun meaning the state or fact of being troublesome or difficult with regard to one's personal requirements or comfort. (similiar to disadvantage)
an original sentence using inconvenience - "I wished not to inconviencience her in any way."

I am REALLY enjoying Pride and Prejudice and I definitely recommend it to everyone :) thank you for reading

ESCAPE FROM CAMP 14 (Translation)

Pages read: FINISHED BOOK
Author: Blaine Harden

Hello blog readers! I recently read a fantastic, and yet brutal and bizarre book in Serbian. It is known as "Escape from Camp 14". It is about a man called Shin-Dong-Hyuk, who apparently escaped a concentration camp in his home country, North Korea, and his life story. Though at certain points very disturbing, this book is about courage and will to escape the terrible. Here is a summary of the book:

Shin-Dong-Hyuk was born in a North Korean "gulag", or labor and concentration camp. These camps were set up by the tyrannic North Korean government some 60 years ago, and their purpose is to teach the "traitors" that they are wrong. By the "traitors", I mean certain people who opposed the regime, and were later prosecuted. The estimates on the amount of prisoners vary, some say they are all a made up story, while some say millions live in them. We can defiantly not say anything for sure. What makes these camps so terrible, is a variety of factors. The first and main one, is the point that the prisoners live in isolation, and they cannot leave (unless a rare exception is made) the camp. If they do, and are caught in the attempt, they will be executed. Secondly, the living conditions are extremely poor. Prisoners live in small shacks, and eat the same food all the time. Not only that, due to the severe food shortage in North Korea, the food is rationed, and people have barely enough to survive. Thirdly, punishments are severe. The punishments in these camps are extremely brutal, and even the minor things can have big consequences. For example, when Shin worked in the camps textile factory, he accidentally dropped a machine he was about to repair, and he got a "light" punishment, which was slicing the top of his middle finger without anesthesia. Lastly, you are not allowed to speak freely in the camp, and if you are caught talking badly about the regime, you will most probably be executed. The camps are merciless places were nobody can be trusted, as you are obliged to report anyone who brakes the rules, even if it is a family member. Moving on, Shin is a normal boy in the camp, and he is treated very harshly, along with the other boys and girls. Unfortunately for him, he was very skinny and short, and so he was very sensitive to injuries, and his whole childhood was full of beatings, food shortages, and diseases. At age 13, Shin committed something that he would never forgive himself. Sick from the terrible life in the camp, Shin's brother and mother plotted a daring escape, and they never expected Shin would betray them. But, Shin knew, disobeying the rules would certainly mean death. So the night his brother and mother left, he reported them to a guard. A few months later, he witnessed his brother being executed by a firing squad, and his mother hanged. His misery continued, as he was sent in an underground prison, until he was finally released a few years later. After a few more years had past, and Shin was becoming an adult, he was sent to work at a dam next to the camp. During the months he spent their, he saw people getting killed in front him, people getting drowned, and other horrific things. Later, he went to work on a farm that supplied the food to the camp. Their, he experienced his "best" years of his life, and he even found a friend, the first true one he ever had. The man was previously a member of the North Korean "upper-class", and he lived in Pyongyang. After escaping and returning to his country, he was sent to the camp because accused of being a "traitor". During the following weeks, the two men made plans of their escape, and Shin learned what was beyond the electric fences of his camp, and he was amazed. They made a plan to go to China, then take an airplane or ship from Beijing to Seoul, were the mans uncle lived. Then, one night they risked it. The first part of there escape was successful, but after reaching the electric fence, they had no idea what to do. The man risked it, and unfortunately paid with his life. Shin then grabbed the mans corpse, and went under it and escaped to the nearby forest. After reaching the nearest town, he learned the way out of the country. Advancing from city to city, he joined bands of looters, and ate anything he could. He even earned a little bit of money. Some time later, Shin  managed to reach the border to China. There, he bribed the hungry and desperate border patrol, and the following day, he was free in China. I will not continue any longer, as it would clearly spoil the book, but Shin's journey to freedom is truly impressive. I recommend that you read what happens after his escape to China.

Here are some interesting words (translated) that I found in the book, and here are the definition and examples:
1. Escapee: to slip away from pursuit or peril; avoid capture, punishment or anything threatening.
Example: In the camp, their were many ESCAPEES from the ongoing conflict.
2. Famine: lack of food; extreme hunger/starvation.
Example: Many countries have suffered terrible FAMINE's throughout their histories.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post, and I hope you read the book!

The Death Cure - The Maze Runner Series Book 3 - James Dashner

Pages Read 42/327

After happily finishing the second book in The Maze Runner series, I simply had to start reading The Death Cure, the third book in the series. The Death Cure by James Dashner is a dystopian futuristic fictional novel. The main character is Thomas and he's also the main protagonist. Other protagonists are group A and B members, and two Cranks called Jorge and Brenda. (A Crank is an ordinary person who slowly went insane because of the Flare). The book is set inside WICKED's (World in Catastrophe Killzone Experiment) lair after all the Gladers had completed their mission of finding their safe haven. A cure for the Flare, a deadly disease which makes you slowly go insane, was promised to them once they found the safe haven. However, WICKED had surprised the Gladers with some pretty shocking news. The WICKED team confessed that almost all Gladers are immune to the Flare but that there is no cure yet. The Gladers expected to start their lives all over again but they still have to fight and be stimulated for their, as well as the humanity's freedom. The Flare is spreading rather quickly and WICKED has to collect enough brain patterns in order to find a cure - this will only be possible if the Gladers continue their journey.

With that said, the two words I didn't particularly know were divvied and avail

The first word, divvied, was more of an interesting than unfamiliar word. I got what it meant from the context ("He found some cheese sticks and divvied them up, then practically shoved his portion down his throat before drinking a full bottle of juice." Dashner 41), but I found the way it was spelled quite unique. Obviously, the word "divvied" means divided. Being honest, I first thought it was a spelling mistake, but when I searched it up I found out it was just another way of writing it. Now I'm probably going to start using it because of its awesomeness uniqueness. (Reading books pays off in many ways!) An example of this word used in a sentence is "I cut up an apple and divvied the slices equally".

The second word, avail, was completely unfamiliar. It means to be of use or take advantage of. ("Thomas looked back to see another guard half drag Minho across the floor to follow, Newt was right behind them, struggling to no avail." Dashner 39) An example of this word used in a sentence is "I was tortured to no avail".

I look forward to finishing this book as fast as possible!

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
Author Suzanne Collins
Pages 84/374

Hi everyone
So this week i have been reading a lot of the hunger games and i will now sum up what i have read. So basically there was this reaping and the lead character Katniss Everdeen's sister was picked at the reaping to go to the hunger games.  Instead of letting her do that Katniss volunteered as tribute.  She was picked with Peeta Mellark, who she doesn't really enjoy because she owed him a favor which she doesnt like to do.  Anyways, in the part im reading now they have just started the hunger games and recently Katniss found out Peeta was hanging out with the pros which made her really upset.  I will read more today

Word 1: reaping Define:  To harvest something
Slowly the man Reaping his wheat to sell it to the baker.
Word 2: Futile Define: Pointless
Sentance:  Its futile to keep going, we will never make it in time

Tied by Sky Tsuda Pillsbury

I'm reading a book that is still being written by the author. Sky sent it to me to read the first few chapters. This is actually a really good book. She phrased things well and it sounds really good. its about a Girl named Seraphina. The beginning it sounds like Sera is being held as a prisoner somewhere. Sera seems like a girl that keeps her word. She said she would never hurt a soul in her life. And I was starting to think she cant keep that. These people are threatening her. She also seems to be the type of person who isn't afraid to speak their mind. I think she doesn't care what would happen to her. She is very brave. And she's also not afraid to admit things; to be honest. Sky explained everything very well in the story. I could imagine everything like it was a short film. The explanations of the characters were also very good. Sera has a black eye and one white one. I love the way the book is laid out. The reasoning's why she has different colors in the eye and many other things.

The book has very familiar words, i knew all of them, but two words I don't use very often are: cliché and flinching. Cliché means: a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought. Flinching means: make a quick, nervous movement of the face or body as an instinctive reaction to fear or pain.

It is Cliché that people in the past thought the earth was flat.

The second the biker fell down, he flinched and looked away.

Sky, this is a really good book! Looking forward to reading more of it!

"Girl Online" by Zoe Sugg

Girl Online

By Zoe Sugg

344/344 # of pages read (just finished!!)

So hey!
I am reading the most amazing book ever and I am addicted to it. Girl Online is written by one of the most successful YouTuber, Zoella. The book is about a girl named Penny who lives in England and has typical problems that most teenage girls do. Her "friend", Megan is mean to her and using her for a guy that they both like named Ollie. Megan has one great gay friend named Elliot who is very understanding and fashionable. Penny secretly has a blog named Girl Online which is anonymous and only Elliot knows of it.

There is a play at school which Megan and Ollie are staring in, and Penny who is always very shy and uncomfortable with herself slipped and everyone saw her panties. Megan posted a video of this on Facebook which embarrassed Penny even more. Penny became pretty depressed and mad with herself. She didn't understand why Megan would do that, and what a fool the video made her. Missing school for a few days, and having huge panic attacks was the result. Later on, Penny finds out that she is going to New York with her family and Elliot for Christmas because her parents are organizing a wedding there for someone there.

When Penny gets to New York she falls in love with a boy who is so good looking and flirty named Noah. Then she blogs about her feelings and how great she feels and how it changed her life. She explained how a nightmare turned into a dream. But will it stay like this? Things got a little crazy when she came back from New York, and Penny found out something that effects her relationship with Noah, the boy she met. But could it get any worse? Someone found out about her blog!

I wont tell you more because I feel like im spoiling the whole book...

But here are 2 words that I didn't understand:
--

Word: Curtly (pg 280)

Definition: rudely and briefly said without manners.

Sentence: "I understand!" Joe said curtly to Caspar
--

Word: Shingle (pg 341)

Definition: a pile of small pebbles (most likely to be found on the beach)

Sentence: We sat on the shingle and look at the bright skies.

The hunger games

HI guys,
This week i am rereading the Hunger games by Suzanne Collins, i have so far read 326 pages out of 436. Here is a picture of my version of the book:
I am reading about a girl called Katniss Evergreen she is from a society where every thing is controlled by the richer part of where they live, called The Capitol. Around The Capitol are societies that each have their own purpose and things that they provide. For example Katniss's society provides coal, they are one of the poorest society's. To provide the Capital entertainment The Capitol thought of the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is they pick by random a boy and a girl from each society and put them in a larger area where they have to fight to the death. The last one standing is the winner and they go back to their province and they get a lot of money and a big house where they live. So when Katniss's younger sister gets picked to participate in The Hunger Games Katniss immediately volunteers to go instead of her. She gets sent with the other tribute to the Capital to where they train and get interviewed.
His name is Peeta and he is the backers son. They get sent in The Hunger games and currently there is only six of them left out of teh first twenty four.
Two words that are diffucult are prestigious which means "inspiring respect and admiration; having high status." I would use this like this "I find their family very prestigious"

The last word is fatigue, the definition is "extreme tiredness resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness".     I was overcome by fatigue after not sleeping two days.
