The main conflict of this science fiction novel is people and events getting in the way of the main characters goal to find his mother who had presumably disappeared in the Amazonian rain forest in search of dinosaurs. One example of an obstacle that got in Luke's way of finding his mother in the forest is the main antagonist of the novel, a crazy Japanese Nazi women who was determined to kill Luke throughout his journey as she feared he would get in her way of stealing diamonds from a cave Luke knew the location of. Throughout his journey, she tried to kill him but he got away and escaped her.Another obstacle that got in Luke's way of finding his mother was the extreme weather and surroundings in the rain forest as there were many deadly storms that could have killed Luke but he survived them all. Luke also encountered many dangerous dinosaurs in the Amazon which could have easily ended his journey as well. He was constantly faced with dangers while traveling through the wild but managed to stay alive regardless.
