So Far Review For Giver

Book: Giver

Genre: No Idea*

I just wanted to say "wow". This book is kind of fun, and that is a BIG compliment taking into consideration that I don't like books that much. So the biggest and most interesting that happend in the book so far is the job of Jonas. At the ceremony of Twelve (the ceremony that tells each twelve his job) Jonas got skipped but got called upon later telling him that his job is the receiver of memory, the people also said that the job will be painful. Jonas didn't know what to think, on one hand he is terrified people telling him that it is going to be painful and the other people look happy and are clapping for him like it is an honor. he got a envelope with the instructions in-side. He felt different but not in a good way. The next day his training begins and he doesn't know what to think. After walking inside and being greeted by someone else he head tot eh main room with the "Giver". The Giver and he talk about how he started and what awaits Jonas. They begin fast when the Giver does his first transmission. He gives Jonas the memory of sleding down a hill.
I'll leave it here for now, I will write another review after a couple of chapters.

Prince Caspian Chronicles of Narnia

I am reading the book one of the chronicles of Narnia, the book that I am reading is called Prince Caspian. The author of the chronicles of Narnia is C.S. Lewis who was a British writer in the 19 century. The book is about a kingdom in a imaginary world of Narnia, The great king Miraz is destroying Narnia completely, but his nephew who is the prince Caspian, is trying to save Narnia from destruction of the horrible rule of king Miraz. Edmund, Lucy, Susan, and Peter, who are normal British children, suddenly become the royalty of Narnia, they help to prince Caspian to save Narnia. Many problems come on their way, but the whole group deals with them and facing the forces of evil. Now, I have to read the whole book, which I cant wait to read it, most probably I will finish it at the end of this week, and then I will be working on the game which was assigned to do with this project about the book, I am still thinking what game should I make, To me the hardest part of making the game will be writing the rules, but still I cant wait to get making the game. The book Prince Caspian is an awesome book, it is full of unexpectedness and surprises as well it has great detail, mostly about the setting where the book takes place.

Moonfleet

As soon as the people left he got of the coffin but as he was about to jump he lost his balance and fell but he was able to grab a hold of something but he could really see what it was. It ripped of and while he was on the floor he could see his candle so he lit it and saw that what he had grabbed a hold of was a beard. He climbed up on the coffin and  the name said Black Beard. He was surprised and disgusted that that was actually Black Beards beard. He started to feel that black Beard would rise from his grave and get his revenge so he tried to put everything back to place. Although while he was putting back the beard he saw that there was a locket on him so he took it to keep. At that time the candle was getting really small so he couldn't even hold it, so he had to put it on a piece of broken wood. As he was heading back out of the long entrance he saw that the hole he came in was filled by the people that came in before and not to mention that they used two heavy stone slabs. John tried digging but all it did was make him bruised and tired so he sat down and went to sleep.

Moon fleet

So last time we were left at where John was on a persons coffin since he heard some people coming in thought the same entrance he did. First there was a few men but later on  there was more and more coming out of the door and all he could hear at the begging was the racket of a few things but later on he could her how they were sipping the wine into containers. He was laying on that coffin for 2 hours so his limbs and back were hurting a lot but in all the noise they were making he was able to turn to the other side and he could not describe how good the feeling was. Then they finally left.

The Truth About Forever By Sarah Dessen

This week I finished the book The Truth About Forever" by Sarah Dessen

It is about a girl who's father dies and she is dealing with it by trying to be absolutely perfect so it looks like she has it all under control and put together, and the worst part, is that her father died in front of her eyes. Even though it was 2 years ago she is in so much pain. To help her be perfect she has a cold, "perfect", smart, and school-obsessed, boyfriend named Jason. He talks to her like she is an English essay he is writing and its all very formal and cold. One day she starts working at a catering company called "Wish", there she form a friendship with a boy named Wes who's mother died, but later on, its not that holding their friendship, but because they are perfect for each other. Jason leaves for "Brain Camp" and while he is there tells her he wants to take a break. When Macy's father died, she stopped running, even though she was amazing at it. People said it was like she could fly, and then one day again she realized she made the biggest mistake of her life when she told Wes off and ran from Jason to him so fast she couldn't care about anything else and she was literally flying. She and Wes now live happily ever after (for now :P)

I have now figured out why things have been happening the way they have. I didn't read as much as I was expected I would, which is why this up coming week I hope I will read much more so I can finish the book. However from what I did read, I figured out why the demons and monsters are going after Percy, not only because he shouldn't exist but because Zeus thinks he stole his lightnings. Zeus believes Percy has his lightnings because he and his brother Poseidon, had a disagreement and Poseidon is believed to have taken them and given them to his son, Percy. Friends of Percy advise him to try and find the lightning thief other wise Zeus and Poseidon will have a war and it will not look good at all for the world, so Percy goes on the search. As far as I read I find this book very interesting and mind grabbing because it is so unusual that something like that could happen to a person but it is so well described it makes you feel like you are right in the story. I know understand what the title is and I hope to figure out who the thief was, maybe Zeus is just pretending that something was stolen, you never know.

Title: The Cartoon Guide to Physics
Author: Larry Godnick
Pages: 162
Genre: Science, Non-Fiction

The Cartoon Guide to Physics is one of a collection by Larry Godnick. In the book, two fictional characters explain a small amount about the large world of physics. Among the small amount of stuff are the Laws Of Physics,  how they explain the world around you, how this was found, and a whole lot of crashing cars. I recommend this book to those wishing to understand the world around them, and those who are just getting into physics. I do not recommend this to people younger than 7th grade, or even 7th graders. It takes you to the edge of how much you can process and understand and for some pushes them further. I had to re-read some pages 5 times in order to get some understanding for some. In the end though, you get the big picture.

The Giver

Title: The Giver

Author: Lois Lowry

Genre: Fantasy

Plot:

Through chapters nine to eleven we discover that Jonas is extremely afraid of his assignment, all his friends suddenly try an keep away from him. The Chief Elder mentioned that Jonas can no longer have friends because a Receiver of Memory is different, he is alone, painful, and has different rules. His rules are:
  • go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the Annex entrance behind the House of the Old and present yourself to the attendant.
  • Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of Training Hours each day.
  • From this moment you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. You may ask any question about any citizen and you will get answers.
  • Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parents and Elders.
  • From this moment you are prohibited from dream-telling.
  • Except for injury and illness unrelated to your training, do not apply for any medication.
  • You are not permitted to apply for release.
  • You may lie.
This last task, YOU MAY LIE, shocked Jonas, never ever has he lied and everyone always told him never to lie! It was horrible!

Jonas was very afraid of his job. Many thoughts were going through his head, loneliness, his friends looking like they would just run away from him, his horrible rules, and many more! How could this be happening to him? But, what happens next, find out in my next post!

Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets

harry potter and the chamber of secrets
273 pages
fantasy

In this book, harry, rhon and hermione will spend there seond year at Hogwart school of magic.During this year some threatening messages written on walls, followed by some frozen students will make it obvious to our heroes and there teachers that The Chamber of Secrets has been reopened. To save Howart and all of it's students, harry will have to defeat once again the evil voldemort.

The Iliad is getting more and more difficult. Maybe it is because of the names, and also the vocabulary. I guess really that it depends on how long the names are. Even though now the book it seems really boring, and difficult, there is something that's pulling me on to read more. I guess I have to know about the characters first, in order to read the rest of the story, because they might have some importance after. All these characters do something, but so far, I will admit I don't understand what it's all about yet, even though I get there is a lot of fighting, and fighting and just fighting. But that was the war against the Greeks and the Trojans. It'a tough war, and many people are dying, leaving their wives, and sons and daughters not yet fully grown, all because of the most beautiful girl in that time, Helene.

The Giver By Sofia 4

Title : The Giver
Author: Lois Lowry

In my previous 2 posts i have mentioned that i will give you a mixture of books reviewed by me. This post is going to be one of those mixture blog posts.

I am reading a book called, The Giver . The giver takes you to a totally new dimension f the world that is probably unfamiliar to you. The giver takes place in a town, what is extraordinary about this town is that it has very different rules from the rules that we have, this town has rules that would never even cross peoples minds of. In our world/towns and cities everyone is different. People always separate them selves between wealth, importance, looks etc. but in this town everyone is the same, no one is allowed to think that they are better than someone or prettier than someone, its the rule of equality. Every must be equal, there is no other way. The people of the town believe that if there was no rule of equality then there would always be somebody feeling bad/ hurt inside.
The town also has the rule of no lying (this rule is for most people, not all). The rule of lying to the people of the town...how should i say it... well it is we taken in a different matter. For example the main character, Jonas had lied but not in a way to hurt someone, he simply said "I am starving". This was a lie to the people of the town because, " he was not starving he was simply hungry, no one in the town was starving and no one would ever be starving", Said Jonas's teacher. In my perspective i wouldn't classify this as a lie I think it would be classified only as an exaggeration.

This book is different from any other books, it bring you to a new world that had things that would never cross our minds. It is inexistent in our towns and cities.

Hero By Sofia 3

Title: Hero
Author: Mike Lupica
Pages : 451

Today i am going to take you a little bit further into the book, its going to be a exciting journey!

It was the big day for Zach's mom, it was Senator Kerrigan's Ceremony the reason why this was such a big thing for her is because she kind of represents Senator Kerrigan. She designs all the ceremony's, she is like his right hand woman, he can go to her for help.  Everyone one was going to encourage Senator Kerrigan : Kate, Zach, Zach's Mom, alba, tons of secret service men and of course a lot of New york.

he most interesting thing in this chapter is what i am going to tell you. During Senator Kerrigan's speech Zach's powers started to act up and he had a urging feeling that something was terribly. Then somehow he started to hear his fathers voice in his head say " Look Zach look!", "look where look where!", Zach replied. Thebn he spotted it, on the roof of a building he saw a guy all in black holding a sniper aimed right at senator kerrigans head. But then he looked closer and saw the man was getting really steady and started to pull the trigger very slowly. Zach ran so fast and tackled senator Kerrigan and just as he did so the bullet cam whizzing over their head, Zach started to release his grip on senator Kerrigan and started to get up but then was pushed back down. Mr. Herbert had come out of no where and was now on top of then both yell" stay down, you always have to watch for the second bullet"!

Exhilarating isn't it, i would love to tell you what happens next but you will just have to read the book yourself and find out. Now i know that many of you will probably thinking" ya whatever" and you won't do it but I'm telling this book is worth your time.

Teens With the Courage to Give

Author- Jackie Waldman and Steven A. Culbersten
Title- Teens with the Courage to Give
Teens and adults alike will be inspired and moved by this most amazing book. I'm very inspired by others who rise above the challenges of life-not in a sugar coated way, but in a real, down to earth way. The endings are not always perfect, but they are always inspiring. This book brought me to tears, for the sadness of some young people's trials, but mostly for the way each of these amazing young people are changing the world with their actions. They are the light of hope. It really doesn't get much better than this. From a girl who finds herself terribly lonely after a move, to a boy who loses a limb, to a boy from a gang, to battling illness or drugs, and many more, each a different story, a different challenge, the teens in this book represent everyone. It truly is an inspiring and touching collection of stories. It touched my heart and also though me to respect what I have in life and to give back, appreciate what I given to me because not everyone has that. If you work with teens, if you are a teen, if you're related to a teen, if you were a teen: read this book. Be inspired. And then share it. I'd give it ten stars if I could. Highly recommended! Read it and you will not regret it!
