The Naturals

For my book project I chose The Naturals. This book is about a teenage girl named Cassie, who has a talent for figuring everything out about people she just met. She works in a restaurant, and one day she meets a strange young man. She asks him what he would like to order, and he says "Pancakes with a side of eggs." Cassie asks him what kind of eggs, and he says, "I don't know. You tell me." She thinks about it, and says the answer correctly. He gives her a business card, and she takes it. 

When Cassie gets home, she reads the note on the back and calls the number. It turns out that the young man works for the owner of a society where they take people like her (Naturals) and use them to figure out crimes. They want to recruit Cassie. She says yes, because she wants to figure out what happened to her murdered mother. She thinks her mother would want her to do this.

That's as far as I got in the story, so I will now move on to the setting.

The setting is a city in the present. So, about the time we are currently in. The story did not say which city she lives in, nor which part. The book made this certain city seem like a gloomy place, with the mood it sets. Cassie seems to dislike her job, and the city. She also hates having to keep her power a secret.
