Pages 254/254
The mystery novel, Death in the Air, by Shane Peacock is takes place all over London July 1867. The initial incident occurs in the Crystal Palace, where the famous trapeze star Monsieur Mercure falls a hundred feet from the near the glass surface of the curved palace roof. Near the incident is a vault, the vault walls don't quite reach the roof, so people once people are high enough, they can see the room before the vault, where the guard is sitting. After the death of the rich star, the story moves through London's rotting streets to where Sherlock Homes currently lives. Sigerson Bell's smelly laboratory is packed with human skeletons and organs, it looks like a murdering lunatics den. Upstairs, away from all of this are the bedrooms. This is where Sherlock Holmes and his aged friend put together all of the clues from all of the events, it is also where the resolution starts. During the day, Sherlock Holmes spends most of his time on the wicked, foggy and poor London streets. He is often visiting Malefactor, the crime king for information. The resolution takes place by the docks on the Thames river in an abandoned warehouse, Rotherhithe. This is where the Brixton gang used to live and are captured by the Force, all thanks to Sherlock.
The main conflict is man vs. man, Sherlock vs. the Brixton gang, however throughout the book, Sherlock has problems with the police, or the Force, while he is trying to find important clues and their lack of respect towards him. The boy also has problems with Malefactors gang, even though the leader respects him. At one point, Malefactor's two best men start to beat him, as Sherlock is trying to get information from their boss on weather or not he tried to have him killed. Sherlock also struggles with himself, depressions due to his mothers death, fear, guilt for disobeying Bell and hatred, mainly towards the police. The main conflict involves the five members of the Brixton gang, Sherlock and his trapeze star friend. The police help the two boys capture all the members of the gang when they provide the Force with the information they desperately needed.
