The Game of Their Lives
By Geoffrey Douglas
Genre: Non-Fiction
While I was reading this week, The Game of Their Lives talked about Italian immigrants in America. It concentrates mostly on the time before the 2nd World War. It talked about the jobs that were available, the first Italian churches build, and how all the immigrants met from destiny. Then it starts concentrating on different gangs on the hill everyone lived on and a man named Joe Causino. It said he helped the churches, the homeless, but most of all he was the one to encourage the kids to play soccer. The book also starts relating our daily lives to the ones of the soccer players when they were just kids. It compares how we always stay at home on computers, do homework etc. while when they were small they would go outside and play ball. One of the part I liked the most reading about was when it talked about how in 1981 about 800 men gathered on the hill after a years, the boys were the ones that lived on every street on the hill. The day was honored to "Uncle Joe" like everyone would call him. Finally the book starts talking about the Borghi family and how they celebrate Christmas..and then of course soccer games.
Now, just comes the book report writing and putting all this great information into a summary!
