This book tells about a girl named Lyra who doesn't have an ordinary life. She is living among scholars in the hallowed halls of Jordan College and tearing unsupervised through Oxford's motley streets on mad quests for adventure, but the real adventure will start closer to her home. She has an extraordinary talent to hear and understand the talk between animals, so do the people from the world of super powers who posses an animal, and keep it and take care of it as their own self. One day she discovers that she has special abilities. When people who are common with powers found out, a man gave her a Golden Compass. She was taken to a castle to meet the queen of the other world (meaning the land of super powers). In this world the witches seen to own the skies, the white bears were the bravest creatures, and it was all ruled by one queen. This queen didn't help the world, she made it worse, and her only weakness was the Golden Compass. This compass controlled the universe and the queen wanted to have it. Will she get it from Lyra? I read this book! It's awesome! My sister loved it so much she decided to call herself Lyra! I love the bear. He's so dangerous but cute!
