This is blog post #3 of the book Edith's Story by Edith Velmans and I have read 238/238.
I think the overall conflict in my book was the war. It is a man vs. man conflict. The war was introduced at the end of the third chapter, page 26. The war makes Edith and her bother Jules take on a new identity. I think this is the most important conflict and this conflict is also man vs. man. While in 'hiding' Edith has a conflict within herself, man vs. self. She wants to help but she knows she can't so she get really depressed and wants to turn herself in. She knows that this would cause the family she is staying with trouble so she doesn't. The overall conflict of the book is resolved when the war ends this also resolves the fact that Edith has a new identity (the minute the war is finished they tell everyone that Nettie, Edith, is actually Jewish and the really name is Edith van Hassen). This partly resolves the conflict she dad within herself because she can now help more people around Breda.
Quote for war: "We are Germany now"(Velmans 26).
Quote for hiding: "He had come to the conclusion that the only thing to do know was to 'dive under'-i.e. to assume a new identity- before the dreaded summons arrived for him"(Velmans 93).
