This book is about a girl who lives on a farm and absolutely, positively, 100 percent hates it. She and her best friend Sarah decide to stalk this cute guy named James Fitch and they decide to join this battle of the bands sort of thing. Her friend wants to learn bass and she is supposed to sing, but when her friend feels the weight of the bass she complains, whines, and wants no part in it. When she puts the bass down and Janie picks it up she loves the feel and must learn to play. James has a friend named Monster (yes that is his real and full name) he teaches her to play and become a great bass player. In the end she realizes what an absolute jerk James is she realizes how cool and sweet monster is. They both like each other but since she is a freshman and he is a senior they decide to stay friends. Her and Monster stay great friends and she realizes her passion for bass.
