The main character of this book is Tanya, a thirteen-year-old girl,who has the ability to see fairies. She has long brown hair and brown eyes. Some of her characteristics are that she is very brave, kind, adventurous and likes to read. Tanya lives with her mother, but is sent away for the summer to live at her grandma's house called Elvesden Manor with her grandma named Florence. At first Tanya dislikes her grandma and doesn't want to spend the summer with her but soon she finds out the truth about her heritage of the fairy sight and that her grandma was very strict just in order to keep Tanya safe. One example from the book where Tanya's bravery is shown is when she runs after her dog Oberon into the woods even though there have been many scary legends about the forest (page 73, 74 and 75).
