1984 - Protagonist and Antagonist

The protagonist of the story is Winston Smith. Winston Smith is 39 years old. He is employed at the Ministry of Truth, London, located in Oceania. He lives in a world which is shaped by the ruling Party and the country leader Big Brother. Winston is part of the established system. He has a safe job with the Government, his career path is established and livelihood guaranteed.  His job involves the revision of historical documents and their rewriting in line with the Party’s rules and vision.

However, Winston does not feel happy and fulfilled. He feels that the system is stifling free spirit, free enterprise and individual freedoms. The prevailing feeling in the society is that of fear and oppression. He feels that what he is doing is not morally right and is contrary to his convictions and views.  He feels that with his daily job he is indirectly contributing to the oppression of the population in Oceania and reinforcement of the ruling Party. He feels that his life is void of any meaning and purpose, since he cannot control it or influence it. He feels no passion for his work and he feels no enthusiasm for life
Winston cannot remember people from his childhood, especially his mother who had disappeared years before.  He investigates the life in London before the Revolution, eager to trace his roots. However, the Party managed to eradicate all remnants of daily life in the past.  He realizes that what he is doing in his daily job is exactly to further eradicate and reshape history for future generations.

Winston is thorn by emotions and feels guilty. Guilty of being part of the system and guilty for not being brave enough to rebel openly.

The Party, however, does not completely control Winston. Winston tries to rebel and undertake activities that are not in conformity with the established order.  He starts keeping a diary, he enters into a relationship with a girl and he discusses the possibility of joining the Brotherhood, in order to overthrow Big Brother. He is overwhelmed with fear but he tries to rebel.

In Oceania, freedom of thought is prohibited and sanctioned. Keeping a diary and expressing one’s thoughts is illegal.  Winston secretly buys an illegal diary in which he writes statements like: “Down With Big Brother.” In doing so, he commits the worst offense, “thoughtcrime,” a term for the “essential crime that contained all others in itself.”   He enters into a relationship with Julia, a fellow employee at the Ministry of Truth. Relationships are not allowed either, since they are sign of promiscuity, which is prohibited. Feelings are not encouraged, either, and marriages are, as a rule, loveless. At the start of their affair, Julia and Winston consider their desire for one another as a political act against the Party.  As the relationship develops, they are led by feelings and end up discussing the repressiveness of their lives and the possibility of joining the Brotherhood, a secret group whose purpose is to overthrow Big Brother and reinstall personal freedom and free enterprise in Oceania.  Winston feels that as a group, they can defy the order and change the system.  He is a positive and brave figure, since he decides to act and defy the system that he has helped create.

The antagonist is the Party and the system in Orwell’s society. The Society is shaped by the Party and dictator Big Brother. Big Brother controls life in Oceania through the four ministries of Peace, Love, Plenty, and Truth. The Party rules, regulates and monitors life in Oceania. The Party carries out government policies in Oceania, rations food, allocates clothing and selects social activities.  The Party suppresses individual freedom, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom to act. Any actions and thoughts against the Party are severely sanctioned. The prevailing feeling among the people is the feeling of repression and fear.  The Party monitors every move and expression with telescreens, hidden microphones and by way of spies.  The Big Brother posters are all over the city reminding people that “Big Brother Is Watching.”  The Thought Police, Big Brother’s secret militia, is used by the Party to suppress any sign of revolt by eliminating all who think or behave in a disloyal way.

The Party sanctions all actions against the established order and rewards loyalty and devotion to Big Brother.  The Party intensifies feeling against Emmanuel Goldstein and the Brotherhood, a group of people thinking differently. They are qualified as Enemy of the People. The Party counts on the obedience of the people when facing the sanctions and physical elimination. Fighting the Party requires ultimate courage and cannot be done on the individual level. This is the society that Winston is an active part of and that does not agree with, morally.  Hence, his frustration and the moral dilemmas that he is facing in the novel.

Hush Hush

Hush Hush
Becca Fitzpatrick
400/400

My book is very complex as it is a fantasy. There are many antagonists, including the fact that one of the antagonists is as well a protagonist. There are three main antagonists, Chauncey Langeais, Dabria, and Patch. As I mentioned previously, one of the antagonists is a protagonist, the two protagonists are Patch and Nora.

Nora Grey is the main protagonist out of the two. Romance was never part of Nora's plan, shes never been interested in any of the guys at school. Although, her best friend Vee no matter what still keeps pushing Nora to go out more often and meet new guys. Only until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes he draws Nora to him, against her will. But, after all of the terryfing encounters, Nora is not sure if she who to trust him. He seems to be everywhere and seems to know more about her closest friends than she does. She isn't sure whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. When she tries seeking answers she find herself near a truth that is more unsettling than anything she felt. For she is right in the middle of a battle in between the immortal and those who have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides she has to choose wisely or else her decision could cost her life. Since Nora is a descendant of the Nephilim Chauncey Langeais, who was Patch's Nephilim vessel, Patch needs to sacrifice a female descendant from the Nephilim vessel in order to become human which was Nora. He planned on sacrificing her life until they fell in love. At the end of Hush Hush, Nora sacrifices herself in order to kill Chauncey and save both hers and Patches lives, although Patch rejected her sacrifice. Meaning that Nora came back to life, but it ruined all the chances of Patch becoming human.

Patch Cipriano is one of the antagonists and protagonists. Patch is a fallen angel, with a desire to save and kill Nora. Initially he transfers to Noras high school in order to be able to kill her easier, but he is unable to since he falls in love with her, despite the fact that he cannot feel anything physically. It is explained in the book that it feels as if he is experiencing everything to a pane of glass, he can experience emotions but he cannot feel physically. He is a very powerful fallen angel with many enemies. He was lost, confused, alone and all he wanted to do was become human until he met Nora. Patch is faced with a very big choice when his ex-girlfriend, Dabria (one of the other antagonists) tells him he needs to save her from death in order to become a guardian angel or become human by sacrificing her. Patch is sly, brooding and frequently leaves Nora tongue tied and furious. Nora finds out that he is a fallen angel and then learns about his past throughout the book. He lost his angels because he fell in love with a human girl and tried to be with her. Although, when he failed to take control of a human body his wings were ripped out when he attempted to return to heaven. Although, when he rejects Nora's sacrifice he become a guardian angel, and he regains his ability to fly although he still cannot feel since he hasn't yet "earned" the right to feel back.

Chauncey Langeais/Jace is one of the main antagonists as he wants to kill Nora. He is Patchs former Nephilim vessel who wants revenge on the fallen angel for tricking him into swearing an oath that allows Patch o take over his body for two weeks during the Hebrew month of Cheshvan. He inherited the power to create illusions from his father, he uses his powers to frighten Nora several times throughout the books. Since Patch cannot be hurt because he cannot feel any pain physically Jules/Chauncey believes that the only way to hurt patch is emotionally, by hurting Nora (more precisely killing her).

Dabria is Patch's ex. She doesn't cause too much trouble except for attempting to kill Nora since Patch wanted to stay in the human world for her but Dabria wanted Patch to go back to being an angel so that they can be together.

Protagonist and Antagonist of the book Gathering Blue

So far in the book I am reading, "Gathering Blue" we have a clear protagonist but not a clear antagonist.

Protagonist

The protagonist in this book is a girl named Kira who has one deformed leg. Her age is not certain but I think she is around 12 years old. At the start of the of the book she suffers because of the loss of her mother. She also has no father meaning that she is now left on her own with only one healthy leg. But, not everything is bad for Kira. She actually excels at weaving and is very gifted in that regard. This whole book is based on her life and she is very important to the story. Even though that she has some natural issues preventing her from having a normal life she also has some other obstacles.

Antagonist

There are many antagonists in this book like nature... But the main one so far is this one girl called Vandara. She is a pretty,  cruel, and strong women. Her goal is to drag Kira into the Field of Leaving after Kira's mom's death. She is doing this for a couple of reasons. One is that she just doesn't like Kir and the other is that she want's to acquire some of Kira's property. She will do everything she can to succeed in her goal. She is also a liar.

That is Kira
That is Vandara

Antagonist and Protagonist - Ender's Game

                                                       Ender's Game

The protagonist of the book Ender's game is Ender. Ender is a nine year old child who was submitted to Military School early, even though you are accepted as a twelve year old. Ender is the one of the smartest people in the world. He has hacked every system in the school, like the strategic video games. He started off as a Launchie, which are the rookies of the school. Then he was accepted to an army, which is where you learn to fight in null gravity. And at the end of his training as a nine year old, he became the youngest commander, which is leading one of the twelve armies. He started leading the Dragons army, which used to be an army in the past but it was so bad at the battles against other armies that the school had to forget the army. But now it is back with the most brilliant mind in the school. Ender is given a bunch of losers and beginners in his army, no elite fighters. He has to teach them to fight and win. This is the middle of the book, so he probably fights against the aliens and buggers in the later part of the book.

There is no antagonist in the book in the meantime but my guess is that the teachers of the school are because they make all of these kids fight against each other. And they make these kids go crazy with all of this strategic stuff.

Protagonist and Antagonist in 1984

Winston Smith, the protagonist in 1984, lives in a totalitarian “utopia” where everything is controlled. The Party and the country dictator Big Brother make sure nothing is out of the ordinary and everything follows the set of rules. Everything is regulated and controlled just like in The Giver by Lois Lowry. The Party and Big Brother have absolute control upon their citizens and the citizens have no individual power. However Winston does not agree that the society he lives in should be like this he wants to stand. Winston opposes the forces however faces challenges in the way O’Brian, The party and Big Brother all disagree about Winston decision and will do anything in there power to stop him from opposing them. The Party and Big Brother have the most power and are the most important antagonists.

Winston is a thirty-nine year old who works at the Ministry of truth in London, Oceania. Working for the Ministry and being a citizen he as any other citizen is part of the totalitarian oppressive system. He modifies “historical” documents in order for them to fit with the modern ideas and rules of the Party.

Although Winston's job is safe and he has a decent future he is not happy. He has to work for a system which he does not support. Winston Smith believes the system bans individuality, blinds people from the truth, stops development and is not morally right. Winston does not believe in tyranny and feels oppressed and believes that it is his tuty to stop this injustice government. Everyday he goes to work to do something he believes is morally wrong and he cannot continue doing it. He thinks that what he is doing is just making it worse for the people and providing power to The Party further oppressing the poor powerless citizens. He tries to investigate what it was like in London before the Revolution but soon realizes that all the records have been wiped. There he begins to understand that what he is doing everyday is just this terminating all records of the past so that no one could stop the development and growth of the gruesome governmental system.
Only now understand what he has done he starts to feel horrible and guilty and tries to protest and rebel against the inhumane system. Winston starts doing things which do not harmonize with the already strongly established order and system. Winston Smith starts keeping a diary, embarks on a relationship with a female and ponders about the possibilities of entering the Brotherhood as to overthrow the powerful Big Brother. He is filled with fear and is afraid but still tries to rebel.

In Big Brothers political system all intellectual individuality is prohibited, one is not allowed to think and have those which do not conform with the one of The Party. Expressing one's thoughts and having a diary is illegal as well. If the Big Brother cannot watch and know what a person is thinking while doing something then that something is illegal. Big Brother and The Party have to be absent and all knowing. In Winston's Diary he express ideas which do not comply with the government's ideas which say the government should not prevail but fall to ashes. Winston enters into a relationship with Julia, another person who is employed at the Ministry of Truth. Participating in a relationship is also illegal because having a relationship is considered a sign of promiscuity. As their relationship develops and there connection increases they think about joining the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is a secret organization whose goal is to overthrow Big Brother and stop oppression of ideas and freedom of speech.

The main antagonist of Winston in the Orwellian Society is The Party. The party is the government which is governed by the dictator, Big Brother. The dictator controls and watches over all of Oceania. He controls Oceania by controlling the four ministries of Love, Plenty, Peace and Truth. The Party regulates and controls life in Oceania. They are the ones who give out clothing, decide one social events and activities and distributes food. The party suppresses rebellion and continues to grow in power by banning individuality and freedom, the freedom of speech, though and the freedom of action. People or groups who disobey these rule or act against The Party by expressing ideas which do not harmonize with the ideas of The Party are severely punished. The citizens or people of Ocean feel oppressed and dictate but yet do nothing because they are scared and feel powerless. The Party has full control over them and they do not have a bit of freedom. They are monitored constantly through screens, cameras and microphones. Large massive posters are huge though Oceania with the sentence “Big Brother is watching” acting as a constant reminder to the citizens that each of these actions is being watched and that The Party has full control over them. The Big Brother uses the Thought Police, his military to stop any sign of rebellion by eliminating those citizens who are disloyal to the ideas of the dictator.

Protagonist and Antagonist

Clockwork Angel

Cassandra Clare

The Protagonist in this story is a teen age girl, Tessa. Tessa went to Victoria England to find her missing brother. When she gets there she gets kidnapped by two women. The two strange women took Tessa to a abandonment building. Now Tessa is trapped in a small, cold room.  Tessa is a tall girl. She has brown eyes and brown hair.  She is very brave and she takes risks. Once she even ran away from the building, even thou she was aware of the fact that if she left and didn't listen to the two women her brother would be killed.  She is also believes everyone that she meets. For example when she met the two strange women she believed that her brother knew them. Lastly Tessa is very smart. For example  she came up with variations of ways to save her and her brother from this unfortunate situation they are in.

There are two Antagonists in this book. There the two women that kidnapped Tessa. The two women are known as the Dark sisters. The Dark sisters aren't related, they are called sisters because they are business partners. The two women got the nickname Dark, because both of their surnames  have something to do  with dark. One's name is actually  Mrs.Dark, and the other one is called Mrs.Black, and together they are the Dark sisters. The book doesn't describe them, the only thing that is in this book related to their physical look  is that both of them had black hair and dark brown eyes. I know that Mrs.Dark is a better person, because she is the one who buy's Tessa two books a month. Both of the Dark sisters aren't patient at all. For example when they tell Tessa  to do something they don't give her time to do that task, and they pressure her the hole time. Lastly they are both mean. Even thou I said that Mrs.Dark is a better person, that doesn't mean that she is polite she just gives Tessa something to do the hole day. Both of them are mean firstly because they kidnapped Tessa and every time they see Tessa they black-male her so she does what they tell her.

172 Hours on the Moon - Protagonist and Antagonist

I am reading a book called 172 hours on the Moon, and I am half way through. There are many different stories going all at once, these are the stories of the protagonists. They all have the same goal, which is to go to the moon through NASA's raffle. Except the ages of the characters is from 14 - 18 due to the raffles requirement. This is where the similarities end. The conflict of this book so far is man vs self. All protagonists are facing mental difficulties because they have a difficult life and are simply using this raffle as an opportunity to return back to normal or simply said using this opportunity as a therapy tool to step into fame and easiness away from the dark times they are in now. Another conflict that I think will occur is man vs supernatural. All blurbs of this book available are hinting towards some encounter with extra terrestrials or something supernatural. That is also who I think the protagonist is. An alien who will try it's level best to destroy the humans or intruders.

Hunger Games - Aleksa Djuraskovic

In the book 'The Hunger Game', written by Suzanne Collins, the protagonist and the antagonist are Katniss and Capitol or better said the society. We know that Katniss hates the Capitol and its people and that she volunteered to enter the annual Hunger Games because her younger sister, Primrose, who was the one that had been chosen. It is clear that Katniss is against the Hunger Games and would do a lot of things to stop this even that takes place every year. But throughout the book she doesn't do a lot to stop this event but instead she tries to save her life and Peeta's, who is her friend or boyfriend in a complicated relationship but lets not get deep into that. She proves herself as worthy and strong throughout the training. The protagonist in this novel is the Capitol/society which is led by president Snow. This is the antagonist because they are the ones that created this awful event that takes place every year and innocent people lives get taken away because of this. They are also in some way responsible for the huge difference between the rich and the poor in the rules.

The city of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau Characters by Matija

Lina Mayfleet
Lina is one protagonist in the novel “The city of Ember.” She is a twelve year old girl who lives with her little sister and her grandmother. She has long dark hair that she winds around her finger whenever she is nervous. Lina is very energetic and loves to run around the city. Her dream job is to be a messenger. On the assignment day the twelve year olds pull from a bag paper with their new job. Lina pulls out a pipeworks assistant job. Luckily her classmate Doon wanted to trade jobs so Lina becomes a messinger. Lina is also very enthusiastic and curious girl. She likes to draw cities shiny and bright, completely different from Ember and hopes there are some cities besides Ember. In Ember the only light is from light bulbs. The light blackouts happen more often and Lina starts to worry about the city and their citizens. Lina is kind and caring girl. She takes care of her little toddler sister every day after work. She also takes care of her granny until she dies. Before her granny dies she tells Lina she lost something that was very important. During one of those searches Lina finds a nice box and paper full of holes with some kind of instructions. She hopes that is something that will save the city. She asks Doon to help her encrypt the message so soon they figure out it is an instruction to exit the city. Doon starts looking for the exit that is somewhere in the pipeworks. In the process Doon finds the mayor in a room full of food and other supplies that other citizens don’t have for years. Doon tells Lina about the mayor and two of them report the main guard so he can arrest the mayor.
Doon Harrow
Doon is the second protagonist in the book “The city of Ember.” He is a twelve year-old boy living with his father. Doon has dark bushy eyebrows and rumpled hair. His main wish is to find the way to save the Ember city which will make his father proud. He is very obedient boy that cares very much about his father’s opinion. On Assignment day Doon exchanges jobs with Lina and becomes a pipeworks assistant. He hopes that from the pipe works he can get closer to the generator to figure out how to repair it. Doon worries about the city falling apart and longer blackouts they experience. He was always interested in mechanics and quite talented to repair things. Doon hopes his talent might be used for saving the city. Doon likes insects and makes a book of all insects he had ever seen with drawings and detailed description. When Lina shared her discovery about exit instructions Doon does his best to use his knowledge of pipeworks for finding the exit.

Mayor Cole is the antagonist in the novel “The city of Ember.” He is the mayor of Ember. His duty is to run the city but also to take care of it and solve problems. Unfortunately the Ember city has lots of problems. It is falling apart, running out of supplies including food and light bulbs. The only ligh
t in the city is from light bulbs so the shortage is extremely important. Mayor Cole is sensitive only to his own problems. He is gathering food and light bulbs for his personal use regardless of the fact that other citizens will soon run out of them and eventually stay in complete darkness. He makes his secret supply room in a pipe works underground. The shelves in that room are completely full with various food cans while the other people are eating the same food every day. He feasts while citizens starve. He might just seem selfish but he is also greedy, cunning, and sneaky. Doon discovers mayor Cole’s  secret room and is shocked by his discovery. He could not believe that mayor has so much supplies only for himself. Doon tells Lina about it and two of them decide to inform the main city guard thinking that the mayor will be arrested for his wrongful acts.

The Chaos

The Chaos

The book "The Chaos" by Rachel Ward has 2 main protagonists, Adam and Sarah. Adam is trying to stop the horrible event that is going to occur on January 2027, he wants to find out what he can do to change the numbers he sees in other people's eyes. He has been gifted to see other people's death dates when he looks them in the eyes. But it gets really hard for him to keep his gift a secret, because other people wonder why he keeps staring at them and why he has this notebook where he always takes Notes during the day. Other people get really curious being around him. In that notebook, Adam notes the dates he sees when he meets new people, and he started figuring if he could possibly change their numbers, because many people have the same date which is January 2027 and Adam can see that there is going to be many painful deaths.

Sarah is the second main protagonist in the book, and she is frightened of Adam. Almost every night she has a nightmare seeing Adam taking away her baby, and she always tries to avoid Adam when he is around her. She also hates her family and because she was pregnant, she ran away from her home in London and fled to a different place far away to protect her baby. There she found a place to stay and also gave birth to her child.

I still haven't found out who the antagonist is, but I think it will be the future because there is going to be a huge fire which will kill more than half of the people in London, and Adam is trying to somehow warn the people without them discovering his gift.

Return to the Lost World - Protagonist and Antagonist

Luke's main goal was to find his mother alive and well so that he could take her back home. Luke is very determined, strong and hopeful as he goes on this journey.

Throne of Glass- Protagonist and Antagonist

The protagonist in the book I am reading is Celeana Sardothien. She has golden blond hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She is the Adarlan's assassin later know as the "King's Champion". In the beginning of the book she is in a place called Endovier, it's a slave labor camp. That’s when Dorian the prince orders Celeana to come to the palace and become the King’s Champion. In order to become the King’s champion she has to compete in a competition. Once the competition starts her rivals start to die from an unknown creature during the night. Soon she discovers that Cain one of her biggest rival is the person who is killing the competitors. As the story goes on she becomes close with Dorian and the captain of the guards Chaol. She even becomes close friends with Nehemia the princess of Ellywe. Dorian and Celeana has a romance relationship during the story but Celeana says to Dorian she can’t be with him anymore because she is the King’s Champion.

The antagonist of the book is Cain. He is the rival of Celeana. He is the antagonist of the book because he is the one who is killing the other competitors in order to gain more strength. He can gain more strength by killing someone because he is using a type of magic called Wydremarks. He is trying to gain more strength in order to win the competition. When he is caught by Celeana he bites her so she can die but she is saved. During the final competition he starts off winning because someone poisoned Celeana but she is saved so she uses last of her power in order to win the competition. After the competition Cain tries to kill Celeana but he got killed by Chaol.

Dead Connection
I am currently reading a book called 'Dead Connection' by Charlie Price for my 3rd quarter book report. The protagonist of this book is Murray, a young man who is planning to kill himself once he finishes high school and join all of his best friends. Murray's friends are all souls from he dead buried in the cemetery. Murray talks, apprehends, and listens to the souls of the dead. He gets plenty of advice on problems he has had at school, for example when people make fun of his name, or when they call him ugly. The most helpful dead soul is 'Blessed Daughter' who died of a brain tumor when she was only eleven. But his personal favorite is 'Dearly'.
The antagonist of this book is society since the school society treats him very badly. They call him names, make fun of his name and how he looks, and also does not pay much attention to him. The conflict in this book is Man vs Society because Murray always gets made fun of and his confidence becomes lower and lower each day he goes to school. I would rate this novel 8/10 because it can become depressing and boring at some parts however there are many enjoyable events.

Protagonist and Antagonist, The House of The Scorpion

In the novel "The House of  The Scorpion" Matt is the protagonist. Matt is a clone, his birth name is Matteo Alacran. Matt is the clone of a drug lord know as El Patron. No one likes Matt due to the fact that he is a clone and clones are looked down upon. The only person who is nice to Matt and loves him is Celia his "Mother" though she is not his mother. Besides Celia, El Patron loves Matt. Matts body guard is named Tam Lin who is a British man strong and uneducated. Tam Lin is Matts role model who makes jokes and takes Matt on adventures. Last is Maria she is Matts best friend and you could say girlfriend, Maria likes Matt unlike no one else in her family. The antagonists are the people who despise Matt. For example Tom who is cruel and does things to make Maria mad at Matt. Then there is Felisia who is Mr.Alacrans wife and the mother of Tom. Felisia had an affair with a friend of El Patron. Felisia is not aloud to leave because she imprisoned inside the big house. Last are the maids and servants who despise Matt and consider him as an animal. Matt is disliked because clones are not considered humen and people think they are Satans minions. Due to him being born from a cow people thing he has no soul and think he is worth nothing.

Protagonist and Antagonist-The Unwanteds

The Unwanteds
Lisa McMann

In this book Alex is the protagonist. He is chosen as an unwanted and taken to the magical world Artimee.  Alex is a thirteen year old twin. His has brown hair and his eyes are described as a warm brown. His twin Aaron is chosen to be a Wanted, but Alex is sent to Artimee as an Unwanted.Alex is very hardworking in this book because works hard in his art, theater and magical classes. Alex is also very artistic. He is able to paint a magical real 3-D painting of a door in Quill. It is so skillfully painted that he is able to walk through it into Quill.
The antagonist in my book is society. The society, also known as Quill is ruled by High Priest Justine. She is in charge of Quill and deciding who is a Wanted, Necessity, or an Unwanted. Quill is a place of precision. It has many rules and you must follow them, or else you will be killed. It also has many rituals like a time when you dig a hole in your garden to put your trash into. Also the Ceremony of Purge, when you are sorted into different categories. It is very decisive.

Mrs. Coulter, the Antagonist, is the boss of the Gobblers, a group of people and daemons who steal kids from all around the world and run tests on them. Or so everyone thinks. No one knows what they want with the kids only that they are keep in the North Pole. Mrs. Coulter is in England most of the time but she does go back and forth. She stays in England to try and find kids to steal and she was going to use Lyra to find more kids. Mrs. Coulter is the mother of Lyra and Lyra was kept away from her because of the actions she did when Lyra was only a baby. Lord Asriel was the one who gave Lyra to the Jordan College. Mrs. Coulter has trap him in the North Pole guarded by Armored Bears.
The book I am reading is called The lost hero by Rick Riordan.Image result for the lost hero
The protagonist is Jason or Percy Jackson and he is ravenous for adventure. He is kind, caring for others, heroic (he is also a hero) and I like him. He is really good getting out of bad situations and he is trying to have good relationships with everyone. He is very smart and he uses his magical equipment and his brain to sneak out under bad circumstances. There is not yet an antagonist except the magical creatures that attack him which cause panic every time they get in his way.

The protagonist(s) in my novel are Will, Halt, Horace and Evanlyn. Will is a Ranger's Apprentice; a Ranger being a person of small stature assigned with bringing justice across Araulan, and also doing other official (or not so official) tasks. They are an elite group of people who mostly keep to themselves but not in Will's case, who has many friends and accomplices due to his orphanage past. His mentor is named Halt, a grizzled man of about 50 years, but who loves this was of life and keeps it up as if he is much younger. He is hilarious and has perfected the art of raising just one eyebrow and looking inquisitive, usually when he utilizes sarcasm. Horace is a fully fledged knight, with lots of talent and skill. He towers above everyone else, standing at about 6'7". He is very innocent. Evanlyn, also known as princess Cassandra, is the crown princess of Araulan, who is stuck in a foreign country with her 3 cmrades. She is very brave and quite stubborn. The antagonist of this book is not one person, but a whole group of people. These people are named the Temujai - horsemen from the far east set out to conquer other countries. I wont mention anything more because that would count as spoilers. The conflict is Man vs Society because the Temujai are a society. This book is a 12/10 so go check it out.

Messenger Protagonist

The book that I am reading for my third book report is called Messenger. The author is Lois Lowry. The protagonist of the book is a boy named Matty. I don't know what is the exact age but he is not a little kid. He lives with a blind man in a village. I did not read as much yet so I don't know who is going to be the antagonist.

1984 - Setting

1984 is George Orwell’s grim vision of a dystopian future, based on the world political and economic scenein the first half of XX century and based on Orwell’s vision of human nature.  The author started writing the novel during in 1940 and completed it in 1948. Those were the most turbulent times in the world history, marked by the rise of Hitler and fascism, World War II and the development of the totalitarian regime in Communist Russia.  That was the beginning of the Cold War between Eastern and Western block.
The television was becoming popular and accessible to the population and it was to become a dominant force in the Western culture. Aside from being a tool for spreading news and keeping the public informed, Orwell realized that television was the tool to control the information, limit access to information and manipulate and control the people.
The novel depicts a world divided into three totalitarian superstates, which are conglomerates of nations that are constantly at war with one another: Oceania, dominated by the United States; Eurasia, dominated by Western Europe and Eastasia, dominated by China and Japan. Life in Oceania reflects British life in 1948. London is the setting for the novel. Orwell chose Britain as the setting because he was worried that the totalitarian regime could happen anywhere, at any time. He wanted to warn the people of the dangers of totalitarianism and the need to fight against it.
London is shown as a gray and decaying urban area. This continuous state of war consumes most of the state’s resources. The city buildings are ruined, they are in the state of disrepair. One can see: “rotting nineteenth-century houses with windows patched with cardboard and their roofs with corrugated iron…the garden walls sagging in all directions.. there are the bombed sites everywhere..”.  People live in constant fear for their existence. All consumer goods, from food to clothing, are rationed, just as they were in England during World War II.https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

The city horizon is dominated by the towering Government institutions, which rule, monitor and control the population. Those are four ministries, each in charge of specific areas:  the Ministry of Truth is in charge of news, entertainment, education and arts, the Ministry of Peace is in charge of war, the Ministry of Love maintains law and order, while the Ministry of Plenty is responsible for economic People’s minds and actions are controlled by way of posters and television screens, which are seen all over the place, at every corner, every square.  The rulers have their informants who report anyone who dares to think or act contrary to the established order. There is no freedom of speech, freedom of thought, possibility to change things. There is no privacy. The Government controls all aspects of life.  The prevailing feeling is that the Big Brother is watching everyone. People live in a constant fear of breaking the rules and being punished.

Ender's Game - Orson Scott-Card

                                              Ender's Game
                                 Orson Scott-Card

Ender's game is a fantasy story based on Earth. But as Ender, the main character, is selected to take part in the Space Military, he is flown to a space station not too far away from Earth. He leaves his family and friends behind and might not see them until ten years from now. There is not too much detail on the setting, more on the plot. This book was written in 1985 so there is not too much modern technology as we have now. There are computers and writing desks to be doing work on.
This book is based on the future, because there is a lot of technology that we have never heard and that we can only imagine about.
This book is just like the human world except there is a war between humans and buggers or also known as aliens. And that extremely bright children are taken from their beloved families and introduced to the battlefield for the first time. They learn strategies of defeating an enemy, how to control gravity while fighting, and leading a battle against an enemy.

A Futuristic, Dystopian Chicago

The city where Tris lives isn't the Chicago we know. For one thing, there's a giant fence that locks everyone into the city  for another thing Lake Michigan has become a swamp and for yet another other thing, large parts of the city are crumbling or in ruins. It's now "a patchwork of new, clean buildings and old, crumbling ones" We never learn what happened to Chicago, but we can be pretty sure that it wasn't so good. Through the story their is proof that Tris is in Chicago, When the Dauntless go to play Capture the Flag paintball, Tris climbs the "Ferris wheel at Navy Pier".

Gathering Blue Setting Aleksa O

Gathering Blue, a novel by Lois Lowry is set in the future. Right of when I started reading this book I felt its tragic environment and setting. The whole human race feels as if it’s disconnected and separated from each other. In fact the whole story begins in one of the most tragic places of all, the Field of Leaving. Here, the  main character, Kira awaits of the diggers which are there to bury her mother’s spirit. This fact and setting pretty much gave us a hint of the story to come and how the whole story could be tragic. It made me think of how this story is going to be about mostly silence, isolation, and loneliness. In fact the village, where Kira lives, is called Ruin. The name itself is pretty depressing as well. All these factors mostly influenced Kira’s life and the whole story. Other than that, this book and its culture has many rules and these rules are also a part of the setting.  These rule are there to enforce safety.

Hush Hush - Setting

Hush Hush
Becca Fitspatrick
350/400

This is something of what Nora's house would look like.
Hush Hush, a novel by Becca Fitzpatrick takes place in Coldwater a small town outside of Portland, which is a major city in Maine. The story mostly takes place in Coldwater High School, Nora's house, Bo's arcade and Delphic amusement park.  In my point of view, it seems that Coldwater would be a small town, with not many people, since the police drop by Nora's house every so often. Which must mean that not much must be going on since they have time to do that. As well considering the variety of accidents that have occured in Nora's school, it seems to me that there is a lack of communication in this town. When Nora wants to go to Delphic Beach, which is apparently a long drive away, according to her mom. This also makes me think that Coldwater is a small town. Even though the area is small it seems to be very rural. Nora lives in what is described as an eiteenth century farm house that is very big and wide, with no neighbors for about a mile away.

Son- Lois Lowry

The setting of this book is in the future, in the Vessel and Fish Hatchery, and a village near the sea but not in the community. There is no seasons or weather in the community but in the village the seasons are Winter, Spring, Autumn and Summer and the weather is sunny and raining. In the community the river surrounds the community so the citizens won't be able to swim to another community. There are rules in the community like no one is allowed to cross the bridge to elsewhere without permission, you're not allowed to apply for a spouse if you are a birth-mother and there are more rules. In the village there are no rules. The values of the community is that you must obey the rules no matter what otherwise if you break the rules you will be released for breaking the rules. In the community things are fair and there are no complaints from the citizens in the community.

Clockwork Angel - Setting

Clockwork Angel

Cassandra Clare

The setting of this book happens in Victorian England in a building, where Tessa is kidnapped. This book is happening in the year of 1878. The beginning of this book is around April, because the book was describing the weather of being warm and that for the middle of spring it was unusually resembling summer. After a few pages the book it is six months later and it is already fall, the middle of October. At the middle of October Tessa is kidnapped, because when she escaped and failed,  but when she was outside for the first time in two months at least one minute in the book it says that the skies were gray, that it was really cold and that all of the people were wearing coats.  The room in witch Tessa is forced to stay in is cold, dirty, it had one mattress on the floor and a blanket on the bed. Next to the bed there were two books. The two sisters that were keeping Tessa were generous enough to give her two books per month. In this room the walls were gray and the floor as well. There were also no windows in this room. The hole building was practically the same as Tessa's room was, except the house had a lot of paintings in it and in the sisters room there was a symbol of two snakes biting each others teals.

Setting of Ranger's Apprentice, Book 4: Oakleaf Bearers

"Ranger's Apprentice: Oakleaf Bearers" by John Flanagan

This book happens around the medieval ages, around the year ~1000 due to the vikings, culture and weaponry. Two adventurers are trapped in a hostile country, and another group of two people sets out in rescue (these groups later merge when the find each other).
