The novel "The House of Scorpion" takes place in the future in a country called Opium owned by a drug lord named El Patron. I suppose the story takes place somewhere in today's Latin America . The plot mostly takes place at the end of summer in the "big house" which is owned by El Patron. The house is where Matt, the main character lives. The story has other settings too. Matt at one point takes a trip to the hills on a horse. Mostly, Matt spends his time in Celia's house which is a two room apartment inside the "big house".
