Divergent
The
book takes place in Beatrice’s Prior (the main character) house and she is
having a haircut because it is an important day in her life. It’s the day when she
will take her aptitude test. This test shows which faction you will enter, and
it works by seeing where her mind and personality are the most suited for. When
children turn 18 they have an option to transfer to a different faction or
remain where they are, for example Beatrice is in the Abnegation faction. After
“Choosing Day”, the new members go through an initiation process that shows
witch faction you suit in. Beatrice cant choose a faction because here
results weren’t accurate and correct, but the test is supposed to help her make
up her mind.
Beatrice
has a brother called Caleb and it appears
that he is a perfect example of an Abnegation boy; he even gives up his seat to
a Candor man on the bus without a second thought.
Abnegation means, ”Abnegation is the faction that values the needs of
others above the needs of oneself. Members of Abnegation take over the public services in the city”.
Jostle
Come into rough contact with while moving
Every time it hits a patch of uneven
pavement, it jostles me
from side to side, even though I’m gripping the seat to keep myself still.
Antagonistic
Arousing animosity or hostility
This sort of thing has been
happening to others in my faction for months now—the Erudite have been
releasing antagonistic reports
about Abnegation, and it has begun to affect the way we relate at school.
