This is a book has two stories in one, The White Giraffe and the Dolphin Song. I read the White Giraffe so far but just started the Dolphin Song.
Martine is the main character of the story and has only 11 years old. On the night of new years eve and at the same time her Birthday, a terrible fire occurred during the night. Martine was left an orphan with no parents and no one to love. Horror struck her when she realised she would have to be sent to Africa to live with her Grandmother she never knew. Martine didn't want to go, but she knew there was nowhere else to go. The only reason she never ran away were all the animals there. She loved them, especially the White giraffe, Jeremiah. There was a legend about a white calf being adopted by an Elephant which took it to a secret forest glade. That's why no one ever knew about the giraffe, if it really existed. But Martine did know, and that's how she ended up riding the giraffe every evening. It's not very usual for anyone to ride a giraffe. The story went on that anyone who could ride that giraffe would have control of all the animals. And it happened to be Martine. But one day poachers came, and stole her. It was Martine's duty to save her.

this seems like a really good book to read! i just find it amazing how people's lives can be like that! i have never read a story like that so now i think i want to! can't wait to hear about the dolphin story!
