Title: 4:50 From Paddington
Author: Agatha Christie
# of pages: 45/217
For my book report I am reading 4:50 From Paddington by Agatha Christie. So far in the book, Elspeth McGillicuddy is taking a train to visit her friend five days before Christmas when she looked through the window and saw in the carriage of a passing train a young woman being strangled by a man. She reports her sightings to a ticket collector (who dismisses her as a crazy old lady), a stationmaster (who never replies), and a police officer (who finds no evidence and dismisses the case). The only person who believes her is her close friend Jane Marple. Borrowing maps and seeking information from her friends and relatives, Miss Marple takes it upon herself to solve the case.
Disparagingly- in a disrespectful manner, "His eye swept over her masculine-looking pepper-and-salt tweed coat disparagingly." (Christie 2)
