The Secret of Whispering Springs #3

The book I am reading is called "The Secret of Whispering Springs" written by Jerri Garretson. This book has 29 chapters and 204 pages; I read 23 pages this week and 71 pages all together.

From what I read last week, Cassie found a sad letter along with other letters that was kept in a tin. In a room at the stone mansion, Cassie heard someone whispering to her to read one of the letters and she also got a vision of the house from along time ago. Cassie did not know who was whispering to her; perhaps maybe a ghost or someone who used to live in the house.

This week, the story became more exciting and thrilling. Cassie brought all the letters home and she received three mails. It was unusual because Cassie never got mail unless it was her birthday or Christmas. She took all the letters and went over to Jordan's house. Cassie told Jordan everything that happened while she was at the old stone mansion. She showed the letters to Jordan to see if she knew anything about it that she maybe heard from her grandmother.

"I went over to see Granny. I couldn't wait 'till sunday. She says she used to know people who lived there, Old Man Cranston and his family. She was even friends with his daughter. He was related to the man that built the house, Joseph Gwynne, but he wasn't his sun or anything like that. Granny said Cranston's daughter started seeing and talking to a ghost when she was fourteen. She said it was Annie Gwynne. (Pg. 54)

Then, they opened the three letters Cassie received. The cards were very shocking because it was warning Cassie not to move into the new house.

#1 Card (pg. 56)
Front: "In Sympathy."
Inside: "Don't move into the old house. You'll be sorry."

#2 Card (pg. 56-57)
Front: "In Time of Sorrow."
Inside: "Sorrow will be all around you in that house. You have been warned."

#3 Card (pg. 57)
Front: "In the Loss of Your Loved One"
Inside: "No one's dead yet. Don't leave your brother alone. You will be contacted. Cooperate."

At home, she showed them to her parents but they didn't believe it; Cassie's mum's explanation was that she had a secret admirer. In her room, Cassie checked her e-mail and got another shocking message.

#1 Message (pg.60)
"Do not cross me. Do not get in my way. Do not talk to anyone about this. My warnings are real. I will stop at nothing. There is something I want at the ranch. You will help me find it. Cooperate or the warnings on the cards will come true. You will be watched. Your instructions will come from me by email. Do not fail to read and follow them."

Cassie replied to the e-mail and later on, she found the iris brooch that Ben gave her and polished it; and there was writing on it:

For Annie, May24th, 1893
Tenth Birthday
Treasure the Irises
Your Loving Mother
(pg. 64)

She was really surprised that Annie had the same birth date as hers. Later when her parents were out, Cassie was left alone with Ben. She checked her e-mail and got another message.

#2 Message (pg.69)
"Don't play games with me, kid. You don't ask the questions. Do as you are told and keep your mouth shut if you care about your brother. You can't do anything for me in town. Make sure you are out at the house tomorrow, with or without your parents. Meet me in the graveyard. Alone.

Main Character

The main character of this book is 14 year old, Cassie Wade (book summary)She was born on May 24th (pg. 64) and she is the protagonist in the book. She is smart and she likes to explore and discover mysteries because she is trying to find the story behind the stone mansion and the mysteries behind Whispering Springs. Her parents really like their new home and are very happy with it but Cassie did not like it after strange things have happened to her and all the rumours she heard from people about the house and the area. The weird thing is, the strange things only happen to her, but not to anybody else in the family. The author did not write anything about Cassie's appearance and what she looks like but I THINK that she has blonde or brown hair because she is a full American (both of her parent are from America.)

Antagonist

Right now, I'm not really sure about the antagonist but I think that the "SPY" or the "ANONYMOUS" person that send Cassie the letters and the e-mails would be the mean one and bad guy because he/she was warning Cassie about the house and also told her to do the instructions as he/she said, or the person will hurt Ben in someway... Also as it said in the e-mail Cassie received, she is NOT allowed to tell ANYONE.

Other Characters (so far)

Jordan Dexter: Supporting character, Cassie's best friend, delivers stories about the stone mansion to Cassie, 14 years old

Karen Wade: Cassie's mother, happy with the stone mansion, doesn't believe in Cassie's stories

Daniel Wade: Cassie's father, happy with the stone mansion, doesn't believe in Cassie's stories

Ben Wade: Cassie's little brother, eight years old, electronics, video games lover

Annie Gwynne: A ghost, born in the same date as Cassie (May 24th) 1893, had a mother named Adele, had a cousin three years older named Dora, had a little brother John who died

SPY/Anonymous: Mysterious, spies on the Wade family, sends warning to Cassie on mail, and e-mail to not move into their new house, no description about appearance YET
