Author - Veronica Roth
"Divergent" is a science fiction novel written by Veronica Roth. It's set in the future version of Chicago where the city is split into 5 factions - Dauntless, Amity, Candor, Abnegation, Erudite.Beatrice Prior is the main character and is faced with decisions that all 16 year-olds are faced with in Chicago, and that decision is picking which faction to go to and spend the rest of their life there. Before the Choosing Ceremony, 16 year-olds have to go through a aptitude test to see for which faction they are suited the most for. Beatrice gets the result Divergent, which means that her aptitude test has more than one faction result, which is rare, but it's not impossible to get. There is one problem though, Jeanine Matthews is after Divergents because they are the only ones who can resist the serums she has to control the town with. Beatrice has to go through her initiation training and a person who helps her out through that is Four, which is her instructor. The conflict in this book is man vs. society and man vs. self because Beatrice fights the faction system and tries not to get killed by Jeanine. This book is also man vs. self because Beatrice goes through problems like finding her identity. As I finished this book, I went on to the next two books in the series which are "Insurgent" and "Alliegent" and really enjoyed reading the whole series.
