“But if you don’t know where you want to go, I suppose any path will get you there.”
I have been reading/ read The Finisher by David Baldacci for our book report project and has it been an adventure! I finished the book about two weeks ago, so I might be a little rusty remembering what had happened.
The hardest thing that had a big impact was when Vega's brother John was taken to work. For what? He was there to work on plans for a wall to be built as a barrier to "keep out" all of the intimidating and horrible creatures of the Quag. John was Vega's only go to, he was the only thing that kept her there in Wormwood. When he was taken, Vega felt as if her insides were going to burn to ash. This was a devastating part of her life
The next hardest thing was trust. Everything and everyone started lying, and it was hard to find the truth anywhere. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore. All the people that Vega looked up to, seemed to have been telling her all the wrong things. Even Morrigone, one of the only people Vega trusted, told nothing but telltale lies. It was one of the worst experiences she has had because she rarely trusted people, and when she did, she could put her life in their hands. Morrigone has lost this trust.
Lastly the Duelem; a tournament for men who fight to win a prize. They fight hard and brutally, you could easily get a concussion. There was only one twist this year, they decided that all women should fight in the vicious and gruesome battle. All women the age 19+ should participate, unless wounded or unable. Since Vega was not yet of age, or on the council's good side, they decided that she would join the Duelem to prove herself that she was not working with the evil creatures of the Quag.
What a hard life it would be.
