The protagonist in the memoir Chinese Cinderella is Adeline. Adeline retells her story as a unwanted daughter in her family. Adeline being a 5 year old girl, in the beginning of the story, shows that she is an intelligent and a mature girl. Adeline still being a 5 year old girl wins a lots of awards for her Literature to make her family proud. Adeline shows she is mature when a book inspired her to never give up. As Adeline grew
older she becomes more sincere, she learns to take care of herself, because she was separated from her Aunt Baba.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

The antagonist is Adeline's Stepmother, Niang. She is a 19 year 

old French women. She seemed to be a nice women in the beginning of the story, but changes after Adeline's Grandmother dies. She turns very mean and greedy. She wanted her 2 kids to get more affection than her step- children. She made strict rules that only applied to her step-children. To get rid of Adeline, Niang sends Adeline to a boarding school.

Conflict
Throughout the book Adeline encounters a lots of conflicts. The main Conflict that causes all other conflicts is Man vs Society. Adeline's whole family considers her bad omen because Adeline's first mother died during giving birth to her. Even though Adeline tries her best to make her family proud they still treat her differently.
