Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
This book takes place in the year 1985 on the Siula Grande Summit in Peru. It retells the story of two fit and skilled climbers (Joe and Simon) (one of which is the author) who try to reach the summit of the mountain. It was attempted but never achieved. The setting is very significant because the author focuses on retelling his journey and survival on the mountain which he obviously survived.
One word from the non fiction book which I did not know the meaning of is the word Void, which is found in the title of the story (Touching the Void). It literally means the absence of something or an emptiness which can be used in a variety of contexts. The second unknown word for me was Peculiar ("There is a peculiar anonymity about being in tents") which means something is different or strange, not normal from what someone usually expects.
