The non-fiction novel, The Diary of a Young Girl, written by Anne Frank, happens in German-Occupied Amsterdam, during WWII. The book is an autobiography, which shows Anne Frank's experiences during the second World War. The book is a collection of pages from her diary which she kept and wrote in everyday during the unfortunate event. The majority of the novel takes place in the "Secret Annex", a section of Mr. Van Daan and Mr. Frank's office. The small four-room "Secret Annex" hid eight Jews. In this secret space they were rarely able to open windows, nor were they able to use the plumbing system, and they could not escape each other company. The most difficult part of living there, was that they had to remain quiet during the day hours, because they were hidden inside an office with lots of works, who were unaware that they were hiding there.
The setting is crucial for the story. If the book took place somewhere else it would not be the same. Anne Frank living in Holland, made her write and experience the stories. The whole story revolves around the setting. Setting and place of the story unfortunately cause everything which Anne experiences during the story. The tight space were the eight Jews stay is very cramped, which caused Mr. Frank and Mr. Van to constantly argue, and Anne Frank would observe this, and she would write about it.
