Sahara never thought of herself as the best student, or the best person.  She never thought about what were the possibilities with her so-called Great Writing Skills which her teacher told her she had.  She never thought that she could be more than what she is now. That will all change when Ms. Pointy persuades her to try her best and never give up, in life and on a blank piece of
paper. No one knows about her incredible gift to write.

Sahara never remembers any of the things she writes in her class journal.  She writes in a moment and then new and greater ideas pop into her head about what else she is going to write next class.
Ms. Pointy thinks that she has a lot of potential to live up to but she also says that she needs to work very hard to work up to her potential and to her dreams.

Even though Ms. Pointy thinks that Sahara has a lot to live up to, only one other person knows too...Rachel. Rachel is Sahara's one and only friend (not including Ms. Pointy).  She can only trust her and Ms. Pointy with all of her secrets, feelings, and writing.

Million-Dollar Throw Week 12

Title: The Million-Dollar Throw
Author: Mike Lupica
Genre: Sports
Pages:454

As the big day gets closer the more Nate prepares. His mother and him made a little project for themselves. One day after school Nate ran up to his room and pulled out his “Gillette” painting that Abby made him with him on thanksgiving night throwing that football through the hole and winning 1 million dollars solving all of his families financial problems.  Right then and there he had an inspiration to make his own hole, the same size that he will be throwing in on thanksgiving night. So he asked his mom for help and as easy as making cookies they were  done.

One thing that I found interesting is that when Nate backed up to the 30 yard distance needed his mom asked him to miss so that she could see if the whole thing was sturdy enough. So he backed up aligned his arm and threw the ball…He got the ball in. His mom then said, “I thought I told you to miss”, “I tried,” said Nate. So he tried again and got it in, and then one more time and he finally missed and sure enough the hole was sturdy enough.

Forbidden Boy

                                                                        Forbidden Boy
This is a book that takes place in Los Angeles in the present. I started and finished this book (along with many others) this week. It is about a girl named Julianna who loved 2 things the most
1. art
2. the beach
Her older sister and her father all live in a cute, small, and retro house on the beach. However, rich families are always trying to drive them out so they can add on to their huge mansions around them. Her family had huge mansion houses around them and new ones are always popping up. It is ruining the beach that they live on, the beach Julianna's mother loved. Julianna and her sister lost their mother when they were very young, she died of illness. Julianna's mother was a great artists, and so is Julianna. One of Julianna's goals is to finish all her mothers painting that she left unfinished. So her goal by the end of the summer is to recreate a painting in her mothers style for her mother. She also gets an incredible job. She is working on an eco friendly home that is being built and she gets to work on all the artists aspects of it! She is also the only girl on the construction sight. One day she goes to a party and meats a boy; Remi. Sparks fly and its all woopty doo; wrong. Well, at first it is. Its all great, until she finds out that he is the son of the owners of the monster house next door that is pushing Julianna out of their home. Her and her sister agree that he is off limits, but she continues to see him privately, she cant help it. He is also the boss on the construction sight of the Eco friendly home. Things are going great, until her sister finds out. At one point, during Julianna's and her sister not-speaking point and huge flood happens and destroys Julianna's painting and the house. Julianna fixes the entire house and when her dad gets back she confess about Remi. Her father is completely ok with it, because he believes that what Remis parents are doing is wrong, but Remi is a different person. Her sister forgives her and realizes that it is ok. In the end, Remi also resolves the feud in between the two families, because he comes up with a solution for their house that doesn't involve taking Julianna's away and that doesn't involve destroying the beach in the process either. They all lived Happily ever after.
The End.

***I know this isn't usually included in these posts, but I just wanted to state that this was not my favorite book. It was a little too lovey-dovey for me and was all a little too cliche and simple. Everything turned out picture perfect and there were not to many problems. Also the way the characters were portrayed was very minimal. There was not a lot of depth to it. Also it was just annoying how everything worked out so perfect. The things I liked about this book though was that they showed a back story to Julianna and Remi's lives. Also it raised awareness about trying to save the planet and be Eco friendly and i also enjoyed and related to Juliannas passion for art and some of the struggles she went through. It was an ok novel. 3/5 stars

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Book: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Author: John Boyne
Pages:266

Everyone has moved in their life before, weather it was just for a few years, days or maybe hours. And every movement brings different feelings, just like the ones Bruno has. Bruno is a boy living in Berlin with his parents, sister, cook and house holders. His family lives on a big hill surrounded by a society of friends and enemies, wherever one goes, he will be stopped by an other person and make a new friend. However one day after school, Bruno's mum surprisingly tells him they are moving by the end of the week, she says its because of "dads work". The mystery behind this book is that Bruno doesn't know what his dads work is, the only thing he knows is that the job is very important. The end of the week comes pretty soon, and Bruno's family has moved, the house is nothing like the old one, will he get used to it?
Old house:
  • had 5 floors with about 3 rooms on each
  • was surrounded by many neighboring houses
  • was in the country side, where everything was
New house:
  • in the middle of literally "no where"
  • has only 3 floors
  • Mother says it is safer to live away from every one else.. why?
  • has barely any colors from the outside
Some of the things Bruno is mostly worried about are if they will ever go back to the old house, how will he make friends, why is everything so far away, but mostly, what is it that his parents are hiding from him? why do they need to be safe..?
My predictions for the next chapters are that Bruno will meet some boy in a concentration camp or a boy that has been through war, and that is how the book is called, also because his pajama will be the colors of the cover of the book. This boy might even be his only friend. Most people that have read this book say it is very sad.. so I am excited to read on and figure out what happens.

Now when Jovan discovered what happened to all of the mystries around his family, he suddenly starts thinking who could done all of this. He starts scouring the whole Backa for this person. But the mystery is who could it be. he goes to Mrs. Martha for more information. unfortunately she does not know no more than that persons last name is Koprivic. Jovan starts laughing and thinks that she is joking. but not, the Koprivics' were one of the most powerfull families in the whole Backa district allthough over the 18 century the family died out, and no Koprivic was left. Now Jovan is trying to find in the old church books any Koprivic that is alaive.
The Koprivic family sculptulers on their own Castle.
Title: Born to Run
Author: Michael Morpurgo
Genre: Fiction

Born to run is a story about human cruelty and the way the dogs are sometimes treated. Michael Morpurgo is very well known for his love for animals, and he has written this novel to make people aware of the harm done to dogs by people who use them only to satisfy their needs.

The main character of the book is a greyhound. It is not given a name but called different names by different people who had it. It belongs to the fastest type of dogs, which, therefore, are seen as "born to run." The dog in this story changed several owners: it never had a home. Some of its owners wanted it to race for money which can be dangerous for this breed, because of dog's fragile bodies. The life of the dog, principal character in this story, did not start well: as a small puppy it was almost drowned in a river. Later, when it got older, it was stolen for dog racing. The only friend, a dog, also used for racing, lost it's life while running. The girl who took pity on the dogs, when finding out that one of them was killed, decided to save the dog's life and ran away from her home taking the dog with her.Later, she was separated from the dog by an accident, when it looked as if the luck had turned its back to poor creature again. However, the novel has a happy ending! The dog ends up living with  a man who found it on the street and took him home.

I find this story very moving and I admire Morpurgo's love for animals. Dogs are supposed to be man's best friends, and it is very sad when heartless people forget it and use them, even risking dogs life, for making profit. I've read most Michael  Morpurgo' novels, and this is definitely one of my favourites.
Some suffer in races and when they can't any more they are killed...
Others are happy until fate befalls them...

Book: SAHARA Special

Summary:

Sahara has always been a very shy girl, but today, her teacher notices a change. Sahara rights about her father, a poem, and Miss Pointy sees the expression on her face that represents more than just loss and more than just misery inside.

As soon as Sahara writes the letter, she goes back to her normal self again and gets her game face on for class.

Sometimes Sahara thinks that she is different because she doesn't talk and no one notices her. But even though no one does, Miss Pointy thinks that she has a lot of potential.

Something goes on in the class and someone finds out that Miss Pointy likes Sahara a lot and they wrote it in their journal. No one else knows only the teacher.

It ends up that every time Sahara writes something in her notebook, Miss Pointy writes a comment that she doesn't even understand. Some of the comments include:

  1. "Don't ever end a story with, "And then I woke up. It was just a dream!" That's a very cheap trick."
  2. Don't kill your characters. The worst ones should go on and on and on, just like in real life.

Fear by Michael Grant

 Title- Fear
Author- Michael Grant
I loved this book because it has some very gross and disturbing moments where you are right on the edge of your seat, desperate to find out what happens. However, those parts are very well balanced by romantic elements and moments of true bravery and wisdom shown by some of the children in the novel. Right up until the last page, you are left guessing about what might happen and there are no predictable moments which I think is one of the most enjoyable elements of a book. Even though there seems to be a few important characters, the book often jumps between major characters and more minor characters in the book which really helps you to feel involved in the story as there are many different elements to the story and many small story lines that need to be brought together to give you the full picture and help you to paint an image of the story in your mind. As a reader you feel involved in every single one of these key moments and feel emotionally attached to every single character you meet. Michael Grant has created strong characters who the reader feels they know well and enjoy reading on about them and sometimes you can really connect to them and they make you feel like you know them or in some causes are them in many different ways. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves science fiction or action novels as this includes all the best elements of these genres and turns them into an amazing series. Throughout the book the author clearly shows the great usage on words and vocabulary and expresses his imagination in a variety of different ways. Truly was a great book although it would have been better the read the other books of the series before this one.
