Delirium by Lauren Oliver

I have finished reading my book report book, Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

The main character, Lena, faces many obstacles during the book. I, however, will highlight just three of them.

The first one is her society. In her society she is expected to follow the strict rules that are set for all the citizens. In her society she is expected to be totally okay with having a cure to get rid of any feeling of love. When Lena discovers the feeling of love, she knows that her society wouldn't accept it or her if they found out,

The second of Lena's obstacles is the government. The government is the one that administers the cure for love. Without the government, Lena wouldn't even have to go through with the procedure in the first place. They are the ones that provide doctors to do the job and ensure that every single teenager is cured and if not, killed.

Lena's third obstacle is her family. Her family consists of her aunt, her uncle and her two cousins. (Lena lives with her aunt, uncle and cousins, because her mother apparently died.) Her family do not share her opinions on the truth of their society ( that actually love is not a killing epidemic ) and therefore prevent her from going out after curfew and seeing Alex, This stops her from seeing Alex and means that it limits the time she has with Alex before she's cured even more.

I really enjoyed this book and would thoroughly recommend it.

Lightning Thief

For my book report I'm reading Percy Jackson the Lightning thief. I've already finished the book and it was interesting. I decided that I'm going to continue the series, yay! So the main obstacle Percy, Annabeth and Grover are facing is finding Zeus's master bolt. Some time ago Zeus's bolt has been stolen and he accuses Poseidon (Percy's father) of doing it. So what the main character did is that he went on a quest with his friends Annabeth and Grover to find the bolt and give it back to Zeus before he starts a war. As I mentioned in my previous post, Hades would do anything to put his brothers against each other, what gives him a lot of reason to steal that bolt. Because of that, Percy's destination is Los Angeles. "Why?" you may ask. Because the gate to the underworld is placed in Los Angeles. But before the group gets there they have to face lots of other things. Through the trip they will experience stuff like bus accidents, getting lost in the woods, elevator accidents, Kronos's workers, and many other horrible things. That's pretty much it and I can't wait till the project. I have plenty ideas.

The City of Lost Souls

The City of Lost Souls

In the novel The City of Lost Souls, by Cassandra Clare, Clary the protagonist encounters many obstacles, three of which I shall describe in this blog post.

The first obstacle encountered by Clary is that Jace and Sebastian are both missing, after which they find out that the two are bound. As well as that no weapon in existence can sever their bond, without killing Jace.

Another obstacle encountered throughout this novel is that a weapon that could sever the bond between the two could not be found, which resulted in the summoning of a demon, as well as angle. The demon Azazel was not of much help with the search, while the angle was. Although the summoning of the Angle Raziel, creator of the shadowhunters, was one done in desperation and great for he would surely kill all whoever summand him. They left the summoning to Simon, the vampire cursed with the mark of chain as well as Clary's best friend. The mark of chain guaranties no harm can be done to the person cursed with it, although they were not sure how far it's powers reached; would the mark really protect him from those of which it was founded by.

The final obstacle that needed to be overcome throughout the story was actually getting close enough to Sebastian in order to be able to kill him, with the sword they got from the Angle Raziel. That presented a problem since he was being guarded by Jace, which ment that Clary had no choice but to stab Jace with the sword instead, and hope that he is more heavens than hells; because according to Raziel one would need to be more heavens than hells in order to survive getting stabbed by this sword.

House of Hades - Cosmo 7B

Hello all! Today I shall write another blog post to the assignment; what are three obtacles that my main character in this book faces that I am currently reading. The book is entitled House of Hades, by Rick Riordan, author of the illustrious Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and I chose this book because it was science fiction, which matched the theme of the book report! Anyways, here are the three obstacles! (I actually finished the book already, which had 637 pages)

Obstacle 1
Gaia is constantly sending our forces and deploying new troops to terrorize the mortal world and eventually conquer it. She plans to wreck Olympus and everything they ever loved to create the rise to a new age where she rules once more.

Obstacle 2
Percy and Annabeth are trapped in Tartarus, a place of eternal damnation where they struggle throughout the entire book to get out of it, while being attacked by monsters every two pages of the book, and the other protagonists go through a whole struggle trying to retrieve their friends.

Obstacle 3
Because of many betrayals and enemies, the morale of the side that is chosen by the protagonists is quite low, and very moody. They barely escape to some enemies like the Nyx in Tartarus or Sciron at his cliff or even Pasiphae at the Doors of Death, with so many enemies and so much combat not everyone is happy, which decreases the output of the heroes.

So those were a few obstacles that did take place throughout the storyline of my book, I apologize for being a little undescriptive but to really enjoy this you would have to have read the story. I hope you enjoyed this blog post and have a nice day.

"The Lord of the rings: The Two Towers"

Author: J.R.R Tolkien
# of pages: 352/352 FINISHED

Hello dear blog readers! As stated last time, I have finished my book report book over this nine day break. In general, I am definitely satisfied with the book. and I really liked it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, even if he/she does not like fantasy books, like this one. It is a very intense book, and it provides a good "gate" to the last part of "The Lord of the Rings". All-in-all, I do not regret selecting this book as my book project novel. Moving on, today I will talk about three obstacles that the protagonists in my book must face before reaching the end of their adventure. Before I start talking about this, I must note that I have not yet read the resolution or the ending of the series, as "The Two Towers" is the second of three books in this series. As well, I will be talking about the obstacles that Frodo and his company must face, not what the "Free peoples" need to face. Without further a due, here are the three obstacles:

1. The journey to Mordor. Frodo,Sam and Gollum must throw the one ring into the fires of the volcano known as mount doom, and in order to do reach this place, they must travel through the perilous land of Mordor. What makes Mordor so dangerous, is the point that it is the heart-land of all evil in Middle-Earth. Many Orcs, Trolls and corrupted men live in these lands, making it nearly impossible to navigate through. As well, Frodo and the gang must firstly enter Mordor, which proves out to be an exceptionally difficult task, as all the main entrances are heavily guarded. The path to Mordor turns out to be the breaking point of the crew of three, as Frodo gets captured by a band of Orcs who guard one of the few passes into the black land.

2. The ring and it's weight. As mentioned in previous posts, the one ring is the root of all evil in Middle-Earth, as it has incredibly large power if put into the wrong hands. And so, in order to destroy this threat, the ring-bearer, or Frodo must destroy the ring. The ring is, nothing more than an object that fits onto a finger, but yet there is a terrible and dark magic that surrounds it. It has the ability to corrupt its bearer, and when it gets closer to Sauron, the dark lord (the original bearer) it puts a terrible mental pain onto the bearer. So, as Frodo approaches Mordor, he grows more ill. and he becomes very closed, and rarely talks. Since its not the end of the series, this issue is not resolved, and since the crew is just entering Mordor, the weight of the ring is evidently larger every meter that they get closer to Mount Doom.

3. Group conflicts. The group of Frodo, Sam and Gollum does not get along very well. Way back in the misty mountains (a mountain range where Frodo and Sam passed a while back), Frodo and Sam were assaulted by Gollum, who used to posses the ring. They managed to defeat him, and they basically tamed him, putting a leash on his neck. In secret, Gollum still craves the ring, but he does not show this to Frodo, the ring bearer. Instead, he tries provocating Sam into attacking him, so that he appears innocent in front of Frodo. Obviosuly, this hatred between the two commonly makes verbal clashes happen, and Frodo is the one who calms them down. As well, Frodo and Sam debate about the route they are going to take into Mordor. This issue takes its toll, as in the end of the book, the crew is ripped apart, and Gollum back stabs Frodo and Sam.

In general, I am very happy with the book, and I am definetly planning on reading the last book in the series: "The Return of the King". Have a nice day, and I hope you tune in for the next blog post in the near future! NL

Insurgent- Three Main Obstacles

Please note: For those of you that haven’t read the previous book Divergent or this one, skip reading this blog post  as it contains BIG spoilers about previous plots and characters from both books.
Insurgent continues the story of Tris Prior and the dystopian post-apocalyptic version of Chicago. Following the events of the previous novel, a war now emerges as conflicts between the factions and their ideologies grow. While trying to save the people that she loves, Tris encounters many obstacles in which she questions about grief, forgiveness, identity, loyalty, politics, and love. Because of the confusion and horror of the stimulation attacks the Dauntless have been divided into two parts. Some have joined the enemy Erudite, while others seek shelter and protection with the remaining factions.   Still reeling from the death of her parents and shooting one of her closest friends Tris feels lost and cut off from those around her. With war approaching, Tris, Four and a selection of the remaining Abnegation and Dauntless seek shelter in Amity, but when the Erudite start coming after them Tris struggles to fight an army as she can barely even pick up a gun without shaking and thinking of her deceased friend Will. Another obstacle that she faces is the guilt, grief and helplessness that is slowly tearing her up inside. When asked to stay, and hide because of her inability to protect herself and others, Tris puts many in danger and risks losing her own life as well. Four, as a consequence is unhappy and angry with Tris's behavior and confronts her about being reckless. Jeanine, the head of Erudite causes yet another death of Tris's friends by putting them under stimulation they cannot fight. Once again, Tris is helpless and torn up of guilt. As a result, she agrees to sacrifice herself by  leaving to Erudite headquarters in order for Jeanine to test upon her. Lastly, Four is captured while trying to safe Tris who has now realized her life is valuable and worth living, and because of her bad temper Jeanine orders her execution the following day. However, Peter the executioner decided to repay her for his life by saving Four and Tris.

The Finisher by David Baldacci

Hey guys! :)

“But if you don’t know where you want to go, I suppose any path will get you there.”

I have been reading/ read The Finisher by David Baldacci for our book report project and has it been an adventure! I finished the book about two weeks ago, so I might be a little rusty remembering what had happened.

Vega Jane has a hard life. She is one of the most courageous and bravest teenagers that I have ever read about. A fourteen year old girl has gone through probably more than anyone has in a lifetime. When she was having tough times, her only friend Delph would help her through them. He was like a brother to her and they were really close, so they knew when the other was upset. He was kind of like her mentor, when she wanted to go on a rampage, he would simply tell her not to, and calm her down. He also taught her many things like how to hunt and work.

The hardest thing that had a big impact was when Vega's brother John was taken to work. For what? He was there to work on plans for a wall to be built  as a barrier to "keep out" all of the intimidating and horrible creatures of the Quag. John was Vega's only go to, he was the only thing that kept her there in Wormwood. When he was taken, Vega felt as if her insides were going to burn to ash. This was a devastating part of her life , the only thing she cared for, was gone. She and John used to take trips to see their parents in the care center, but of course now that he was gone, their trips have been postponed forever.

The next hardest thing was trust. Everything and everyone started lying, and it was hard to find the truth anywhere. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore. All the people that Vega looked up to, seemed to have been telling her all the wrong things. Even Morrigone, one of the only people Vega trusted, told nothing but telltale lies. It was one of the worst experiences she has had because she rarely trusted people, and when she did, she could put her life in their hands. Morrigone has lost this trust.

Lastly the Duelem; a tournament for men who fight to win a prize. They fight hard and brutally, you could easily get a concussion. There was only one twist this year, they decided that all women should fight in the vicious and gruesome battle. All women the age 19+ should participate, unless wounded or unable. Since Vega was not yet of age, or on the council's good side, they decided  that she would join the Duelem to prove herself that she was not working with the evil creatures of the Quag.

What a hard life it would be.

The Hobbit

                                     Hello
I am reading the hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. I finished the book a long time ago. The main character in this story was Bilbo Baggins and he had a quest to go and kill a dragon and safely return with Gandalf the wizard. He has some troubles and obstacles in the way. One of the obstacles Bilbo faced was the trolls in the mountains. These trolls were huge and could easily crush them. Bilbo had to steal from these trolls to not starve. If he didn't then he would die of starvation. Another obstacle was that he had to walk all the way to the dragon to kill it. Its not only the creatures that get in the way. Its also the long distance of walking and the food that you need to have to be able to get to the dragon. The last obstacle was the dragon. Of course to safely return to your home, you would first need to kill the dragon. Its not that easy to kill a dragon and if you do, how are you going to get home without starving? Bilbo has food with him and he makes it back alive.
Thank you

Gathering Blue #2

Hi guys!  I choose to read "Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry for this book report. The book has 215 pages and I read all of them. It was a really interesting book and you should read it too. The first two obstacles that Kira faced are the fact that she was born with a twisted leg and she never got to know her dad. The twisted leg was a barrier for her in many ways. She couldn’t run and help around, which was really frustrating for her. Also, having only her mother in the beginning (her mom also died but she when Kira was a teen) was really uncomfortable.  That’s because she and her mom didn’t have a man to take care of them and to protect them. That was a really big challenge for both Kira and her mother. Another big obstacle in her life was when her mother died. That shocked Kira a lot. She was always there for her and defended her when people wanted to take Kira away because of her leg, but now she’s gone and Kira doesn’t have anyone. Surprisingly, Kira didn’t give up and she was still thinking about her future. She also lost her house. Even though she lost her house, she was really good at weaving, and therefore the Council of Guardians took her to work for them and offered her a better house to live in.
Hope you enjoyed!

A Great and Terrible Beauty

The first obstacle that Gemma faces is the one that forces other things to happen. Gemma is an ordinary teenage girl, and like many other teenagers, Gemma doesn't like it when her mom says she cant handle things on her own. Gemma wants to go to London, but her mom wont allow her to go. Eventually Gemma runs away, and gets one of her "visions". And in the vision she saw her mom suicide. She finally found her mom, but she was dead like in her visions. There is more to this story but you would have to read the book on your own to find out more.

The second obstacle that Gemma faces was because of the first one. Gemma was sent to a school for girls called Spence. In this school she gets friends and faces many weird things... Girl things. Its hard for her and confusing due to the things that have happened before. She doesn't understand many things but she feels like she is prepared because of her visions. She helps a girl that is being bullied not get in trouble, because the bully tried to blame the victim for stealing her ring. But Gemma proved that she didn't.

The third obstacle also was because of the  first one. Gemma found out that her mom's death was different than she thought. There was more behind it and what might have happened. I cant tell you any more because it would give the book away. You'll understand if you read it!

3 Protagonist's Obstacles | The Scorch Trials

Pages read 357/357

The three obstacles that Thomas encountered are 1) stuck in  a place in the middle of the desert where all the cranks live (Cranks are ordinary people who are slowly going crazy because of the Flare, a deadly disease which spread throughout all of Earth) 2) being kidnapped by the girls' group then tricked by Teresa and Aris who lead him into a room full of gas, and 3) being surrounded by human-like machines made by WICKED.

The first obstacle came around just before the middle of the book, where Thomas and the rest of the group came upon the cranks liar and decided to ask for help. Though before they asked for help, the leader, or the main crank called Jorge jumped the Gladers and Minho (one of the Gladers) decided to attack him. Jorge got angry and wanted to kill him but the rest of the group refused. They made a compromise to not kill Minho, and in return the Gladers would bring Jorge and one more crank to the safe haven where a cure would be given to them by the WICKED team. Jorge chose Brenda, the smartest crank, and the next thing the Gladers knew: they were calmly sitting down and finally eating real food. In the middle of their meal, the whole place crashed and the group had to separate. Thomas went with Brenda in one direction, and Jorge with all the other Gladers went the other direction. They tried to get back together but Thomas and Brenda stumbled upon one crank that tried to kill them, which ended up being killed by Thomas. After killing the crank, they moved on. Not so far from the dead crank, other cranks from a room in which a party was held forced Thomas and Brenda to join. They gave both of them a beverage and said if they don't drink it, they will kill them. Of course, the beverage was poisoned. The rest of the group and Jorge found them and escaped the room while the cranks were asleep.

After sitting outside the room for a good hour, Thomas seemed to be in trouble again. Teresa came along with the rest of group B (the girls' group). Thomas knew Teresa because she was once a part of the guys group, until Aris replaced her. She dragged Thomas out with threatening to kill him right away if anyone tried to save him. She punched him a couple times, put him in a bag, dragged him up a mountain with the help of a couple more girls, and let him out of the bag once they were out of sight. WICKED had given the girls' group an assignment to kill Thomas: it's either them, or him who lives. After a while, the girls realized it was all just another test, a part of the trials and it didn't matter if they kill him or not. The bigger number of people getting to the safe haven, the better. After they decided not to kill him, all the girls and Thomas continued walking to get to the safe haven. Teresa asked Thomas to come with her to talk and so he did, even though he had doubts and felt mistrust and betrayal. Out of nowhere, Aris from the guys' group appeared. Teresa and Aris dragged Thomas to a room full of gas and left him there until he woke up and got out himself. After that had happened, Teresa and Aris explained it was just another assignment given to them by WICKED, to see if they have the guts to make Thomas feel betrayed and never trust Teresa again, and also to trick him into thinking they were planning to kill him. If they didn't do all this, Thomas would be killed by WICKED.

The last obstacle came around just before the end of the book, making it that much more intense. Group A and B, along with Jorge and Brenda, got together and tried to make it to the safe haven in time. They got to a place where they saw a bright orange flag. While wondering what that might mean, around them appeared pods which came out of the ground. In each pod, there was a human-like machine made by WICKED. These creatures had no eyes, nose, or mouth, and were beige and disgusting. They appeared just seven minutes before the time they got to get to the safe haven was out! There was one creature for each person to fight. Two people died, a boy and a girl, none of which Thomas, or anybody, knew much about. After defeating WICKED's machines, there was only fifty seconds left! Just after the machines were defeated, everyone saw a vehicle identical to a space-shuttle lifting off the ground. All of them ran as fast as they could to get inside, and everyone got inside safe and sound. They found their safe haven, even though they were expecting it to be a building, but it isn't over. The cure will be given to them as soon as they got to WICKED's lair, but they aren't free just yet. Phase three of the trials is starting soon... will anyone make it out alive?

Thanks for reading! If you want to find out more about what happens, read "The Scorch Trials", and if you want to know what happens next (in phase three of the trials), read "The Death Cure". Trust me, it's very intense and exciting. I loved every single page of this book!

Matched

    HI guys,
For my book report book i read all 366 pages of Allie Condie's book Matched. Here is  a picture of the book:
Cassie’s main goal throughout the book is to be with Ky without hurting anybody especially her family.  It seems like a very simple goal but she had to go through many obstacles. Some of the obstacles are when the society does not allow them to be together and they are not allowed to go on dates or even meet each other because he was not planned to be her match.  The last obstacle she had to face is when her family had been told that they were going to get moved outside the city to live in the farmland, because Cassie’s mother new too much about how to live without the society by growing your own crops. Her mother figured this out because she is one of the board members so she is in charge of the agriculatriul part. So an official (they are like higher class police men) makes a deal with Cassie that if she tells her what Ky and Cassie did while they spent secret time together in exchange the official will make sure that her family does not get moved to the farmland.  Cassie declined the offer and said that she would never tell them, since they did many illegal things such as learn to write, collect forbidden poems and many other things.  Since the society realized that their threat did not work they threaten her that if she does not stop seeing Ky that they will take Ky away to the border where they are fighting the enemy where he will most likely die. This actually worked in their favor because Cassie planned to go and find him and reunite.

Oryx and Crake- goals of the antagonist

Hello all! I do hope you are all enjoying your breaks and having an amazing time with this beautiful book project to keep you company.
I have finally finished all 432 pages o the novel Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. This week I shall share some of the goals of the ANTAGONIST.
Now, this may be slightly different to what was expected of us, yet, within Oryx and Crake, the antagonist doesn't really DO much. He hunts around for food, I give him that, but aside from survival, he doesn't really have any aspirations. He was assigned to look after the 'Crakers', but not out of his own free will, and he barely completes that job anyway. Most of the story is told through his flashbacks, in which his past, and the story of the antagonist is told.
The antagonist in Oryx and Crake is Crake, a crazy physcopath, in my humble opinion. His goal is to replace the human race with beings of his own kind, 'Crakers'. These beings have been gentically modified to be perfect - they don't feel hate, they don't believe in anything, they can heal themselves easily, they don't feel attachment. It seems like a dream race, but Crake had to work hard to achieve this.
Firstly, Crake needed the knowledge and inspiration. He had found flaws with the human race, and along with an upsettng childhood, his aspirations turned dire and harmful, yet he couldn't achieve anything great in his childhood. Crake worked hard in school, using his intelligence to his advantage, and was therefore accepted into the best university of his times, Watson-Crick. Watson-Crick was a university full of th best brains, using science to alter humans and animals alike. Here, he was inspired to create a pill that would have lthal efects- the found out that the human race had been unleashing diseases, and then selling expensive remedies. This sick form of capitalism inspires crake, and his school educates him to give him the necesarry tools.
Crake also needs to find a way to get support - if he is to create a disease and a way to wipe out all of the humans on earth, he needs someone to support him, as to create a successful brand. He hires people from his past, for example 'Jimmy' also known as 'Snowman' or 'Thickney', under the impression he is doing something else- finding ways to save the world and human race, creating pills and potions to save us all. Crake also hires MaddAdam, the men behind the computer games Jimmy and Crake played in their youth. Together, these staff members follow behind Crake, blindly destroying the world they live in.
Lastly, but not least, Crake needed a WAY. He couldn't simply go around spreading viruses - he needed a way to spread his plague - this being 'BlyssPlus'. BlyssPlus was the lethal pill that Crake invented, which worked as contraception as well as antiaging - giving also health benefits. Of course, you would be crazy not to buy it! Prolonged life as well as looking and feeling younger? It seemed like a dream. The pill spread like a wildfire, until, all together, anyone who had ever taken this magic pill was struck down with the plague. This plague was contagious - soon everyone had the plague. People were dying left, right and centre, as well as being driven mad by anger and sadness. To top it all off, Crake killed Oryx, his wife and the love of Jimmys life, as then was shot by Jimmy. Crake had planned his death. He had nothing more to gain or do. Crake died an  accomplished man, having achieved his life goal - creating the Crakers, who were to continue living, as well as killing the human race. All, apart from Jimmy, who he had made immune to the plague. Crake left the Crakers in the arms of Jimmy, and died the death that he had longed for. Despite the pain and destruction caused, Crake did accomlpish his goal.
Thanks for reading :)

Divergent - Veronica Roth

Pages: 487/487
Author - Veronica Roth
As I mentioned in my previous post, I finished my book already. Tris as the main character has to overcome many obstacles along the way to get to what she wants, and even in the first book of the series, she doesn't fully achieve her goal.
The first obstacle she has to overcome is choosing which faction to go to after her aptitude test. Tris is Divergent, meaning she got more than one result on the test. In the end, Tris chooses to go to Dauntless, which means she needs to leave her family, which is a challenge for her. Caleb, Tris' older brother also leaves Abnegation (which is were their family is), so this means that only their parents will be left in the house, which also comes hard for Tris.
The second challenge Tris had to face was getting used to being in the Dauntless compound and getting used to the Dauntless way of doing things. Tris had to go through initiation, and she was the first in her group after training. Tris had to do fear landscapes, which are simulations of your fear that you have to face.
The last  obstacle was deactivating the simulation that Jeanine Matthews injected into the Dauntless to fight for Erudite. Tris first had to get to the erudite compound, and then had to get through to Tobias and get him out of the simulation. Tris threw a knife into Jeanine's hand and told her to deactivate the serum, but Jeanine didn't listen. Tobias then had to inject Jeanine with a serum in order for her to follow Tris' commands. In the end, Tris deactivated the simulation.

This book is one of the best I've read, and I suggest people of all ages should read it (if they can)! :)

"Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters" By Rick Riordan

"Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters"

265/265 # of pages read

Rick Riordan

Hey again,
So this time I will be posting about the three obstacles that the protagonist was facing. Percy's target in the book was to find the Golden Fleece which will heal the poisoned tree and rescue his friend, Grover who is disguised as a lady cyclops and about to get married to a Cyclops.

The first main problem before all is the fact that Percy, Annabeth or any of the other campers aren't allowed to get out of camp or go on a quest without being sent or having permission so with that as a rule you can't do much. They also have no transportation, no one to trust because Chiron is fired for now and the activities director and the camp director aren't liked by anyone.

The first obstacle is that when Percy gets transportation from Hermes which was just set up in order to find Luke, who hates his family and feels betrayed so he is helping Kronos and trying to wake him up and destroy mount Olympus. Percy, Annabeth and Tyson get on a ship that is run by Luke with people who have been hypnotized into a way to wake up Kronos. They get stuck, cant escape and are about to be killed or poisoned but Luke knew they would run away so he let them go through the whole journey to find the fleece for him, but did his plan go well?

The second obstacle is that when they were on their way to find the golden fleece they had to pass through the Sea Of Monsters which had many islands like one with the goddess Circe who tried to turn Percy into a Guinea pig. The other island had sirens on it who told the future and truth about you, and instead of following Percy's lead Annabeth decided to not cover her ears and hear the truth and future because apparently it makes you wiser. The biggest island was the Cyclops's island which was where Percy almost got drowned, Clarrise and Grover were about to get married to a cyclops and Annabeth got knocked down by the Cyclops.

After the Tyson, Percy, Clarrise and Annabeth got out of the islands and finally back safe into the shore of Miami, Clarrise told her friends the prophecy that she will complete the task alone and bring back the fleece. Percy decided to give her money so she would fly to the airport would the fleece and get it to camp before midnight. On the way, Luke comes a few minutes after Clarrise leaves to the airport and tries to get the fleece and is about to attack Percy. Then we shall see what happened.

Thats all for today, Shelly.

A great and terrible beauty

A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY

The setting of this book is in the Finishing school For girls, Sepence academy. They also have a meeting place which is in a cave near the academy. Also there is a forest house where Kartik is. It is also where Gemma and her friends go to rebel against society. In the beginning  Gemma is in India but later on she moves to England. The conflict of the story is that Gemma have some kind of power that she can kind of see the future. But when she is having these visions its happening the second she is seeing them. Or a little bit after. I think this is Man vs. Supernatural. Because i don't believe visions are possible to happen in real life.

The Lightning Thief

The setting of this book is the present at Camp half-blood. As I mentioned in my previous post, a half-blood (aka Demigod) is a person related to a Greek God, who is still mortal. Camp half-blood is basically a camp where most of half-blood kids gather and live (it's like a boarding school). Sometime after a child enters the camp, it's being called by a god as his relative. For example Annabeth is Athena’s relative (Annabeth is Percy’s friend from the camp that helped him find his god, which by the way is Poseidon). The conflict of the book is supernatural vs. supernatural. The main antagonist is Kronos; the father of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Before I go to the main problem of the story I have to present the background:
- Children of Zeus and Poseidon fought against children of Hades, what caused WWII
- The first group won
- Because of that, Hades promised his rivals that he will no longer have any affairs with mortal women
- Later on Zeus, Poseidon and Hades decided that they will not have any more children, because they were so powerful that they were affecting the mortals world too much (WWII)
- Couple years later Zeus had a child; Thalia
- What caused Hades to break his promise too and “kill” Zeus’s daughter
Because Percy is a child of Poseidon (the god that promised he will not have any more children), he might be in danger.

The Hobbit

Hello,
I am reading the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I am done with this book. In this book, the setting and place goes on in many places. The setting goes on in mountains, villages, etc. The time is not told but in in my opinion, it goes on in the past because people are with swords and bows. If it was placed in this current time period, then there would be guns and knifes.

The conflict is when they try to to raid the treasure of a dragon called Smaug. The conflict is either man vs man or man vs nature. Man vs man because most of the story is against other people or other things. Nature because animals are a part of nature. The problem is that this dragon is very large and very strong. There is almost no way that Bilbo can take the dragon out by himself.

The most exciting part is also the part where they try and raid the dragon. The reason that they are raiding the dragon is because gandalf the wizard came to take Bilbo on an adventure to raid it. They have many obstacles in the way but they eventually get through them.

BLOG POST 2
LEARN TO SWIM

Hey guys its Sarah and I am at my second blog post. In this blog post I have to describe the setting and the conflict of my book, Learn to swim.
So, let’s start talking with the setting. The story is narrated in present days, beginning on a ferry in the middle of Lake Champlain in Burlington, during a cold, foggy and windy day. Then it continues in the house of our heroin always in Burlington that she shares with other 4-5 boys after a while more in depth in the book she is going to go to Canada to meet the child parents.

There are many conflicts in the book, the main one is Man vs. man so who throw the child out of the ferry, Troy at first thinks it might be the father of Paul, however after meet him she change her mind. Then there is a lot of “man vs. self” especially from the main character. The one I’ve meet were: should I bring the child to the police or for his safe should I keep with me and eventually do some research to find out more then decide? Should I go with Paul with the risk of getting sad when I’ll need to leave or should I keep going with my life like if anything had happened? Is it ok to fall in love with the child’s father or it is no ok?

The Diviners

Hello everyone! For my book project I read "The Diviners".

The main character is Evie O'Neill, and the book begins by describing a 'fashionable address at Manhattan's Upper East side.' There is a party in this house, and the hostess has a Ouija board (used for summoning spirits). She summons a ghost to liven the party, and the conversation goes like this.

"Hello" is spelled out on the Ouija board.

"What is your name, o great spirit?" The hostess asks.

"Naughty John." The ghost spells out.

"What makes you so naughty?" The hostess replies.

"You'll see." Those were the final words of Naughty John for that day.

Meanwhile, Evie is in trouble with her parents because she used her special power to tell a boy's secret. Her power is that when she picks up an object of someone, she can see a vision of something about them. The boy's family is rich, and demand a public apology. Evie says no, and is sent off to her Uncle's house in New York as 'punishment'. Her friends go to the train station to watch her leave, and give her a magazine. Then she's off.

Then, we meet Memphis Campbell. He often has dreams about his dead mother, and he has a healing power. According to the book, Memphis is 6 feet tall and has broad shoulders. It says he is very handsome.

Now, Evie meets Sam Lloyd. He is a thief, and a good one at that. He flatters her with kindness and flirts with her. Then he kisses her and takes 20$ out of her pocket while doing so. The unsuspecting Evie realizes soon after, and pesters him when he comes to her Uncle's house for an internship at the museum of Creepy Crawlies.

Jericho Jones works at her Grandfather's museum. He is a very serious person. He soon develops feelings for Evie, but is good at hiding it.

Mabel is Evie's best friend. She has thick, long brown hair. She is the pen pal of Evie, and often writes long letters about the love of her life, Jericho.

Theta Knight is a talented singer and dancer. She is strikingly beautiful. She has a best friend named Henry, who picked her up from the streets a few years ago. They bonded a lot since then, and they are both diviners.

Divergent - Veronica Roth

Pages: 487/487
Author - Veronica Roth
"Divergent" is a science fiction novel written by Veronica Roth. It's set in the future version of Chicago where the city is split into 5 factions - Dauntless, Amity, Candor, Abnegation, Erudite.Beatrice Prior is the main character and is faced with decisions that all 16 year-olds are faced with in Chicago, and that decision is picking which faction to go to and spend the rest of their life there. Before the Choosing Ceremony, 16 year-olds have to go through a aptitude test to see for which faction they are suited the most for. Beatrice gets the result Divergent, which means that her aptitude test has more than one faction result, which is rare, but it's not impossible to get. There is one problem though, Jeanine Matthews is after Divergents because they are the only ones who can resist the serums she has to control the town with. Beatrice has to go through her initiation training and a person who helps her out through that is Four, which is her instructor. The conflict in this book is man vs. society and man vs. self because Beatrice fights the faction system and tries not to get killed by Jeanine. This book is also man vs. self because Beatrice goes through problems like finding her identity. As I finished this book, I went on to the next two books in the series which are "Insurgent" and "Alliegent" and really enjoyed reading the whole series.

The Finisher by David Baldacci

Hello
The Finisher by David Baldacci ARC {3 Stars}
Wormwood is all there is. There is nothing beyond this mysterious and obscure village. Only Virgil Jane; Vega's grandfather, Quentin Herms, and Vega herself are the ones who know of the curiosities that lay in this mysterious place. There are terrible things happening, and things that are yet to come. Vega has found out that this place is only filled with lies,  and there was only one reason keeping her here. The Quag. The terrible dark, deep forest that means sure death when you step one foot in. There are beasts in the Quag that would rip your head right off. Yet one Wug (beings of Wormwood) has run away into the Quag; Quinten Herms. He was running from this place, and Vega Jane wants to know why. The conflict in the story is both external and internal because Vega is fighting council and their members to do what is right. It is man vs. Society. Vega has trouble making decisions that will change her life forever.

Conflict and Setting of The Scorch Trials

Page 129/357

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner is set in the future in an unknown location in the U.S.A. (United States of America). The book starts off being set in an old underground tunnel-like place with a few rooms. By the middle of the book, all the characters had moved from that place because of their mission and are currently walking through a desert to get to a town that's ahead of them. The conflict is man vs. society - man being Thomas and the rest of the group and society being the W.I.C.K.E.D. team. Their goal is to be set free, but they first have to escape the trials. The group is trying to find a trans wall they can go through to get somewhere (which I don't know where yet since I didn't finish the book). Unfortunately, they will have to face many difficulties on the way to achieve their freedom.

Setting of Oryx and crake

  CURRENT PAGE: 415/432
Dear all,
This week I will be sharing the setting and conflict of the science fiction book Oryx & Crake, an amazing novel by the prestigious Canadian author Margaret Atwood. I have 17 pages left, and I plan to finish the book tonight, but I paused reading to do my blog post.
There are two separate settings in the book. This book is a dystopian book, set in our future, but it is much different to any other dystopian book that I have read. Many of these other books, for example, the Hunger Games, or other such books/series. These are set in the far future, and there is no real connection to how society got themselves into this mess. Whereas in Oryx and Crake, it is evident and explained how the future ended up like this - the use of genetic modification.
In the first time frame, we have Jimmy, or snowman, throughout his youth. He has grown up in a variety of compounds, all working towards creating  genetically modified animals, to use towards the benefit of the human race - pigs that grow extra organs as to replace faulty ones in humans, as well as creating pills and cures to all sorts of ailments that the human is troubled with.
The second time frame is set when Jimmy, now called Snowman, is an old man, living in a tree in 'Paradice'. This is almost a post-apocalyptic world - Snowman is the only one alive (or so he thinks- this has not categorically been disproved). The rest of the world has died at the hand of a terrible and contagious disease spread, originally, by a pill manufactured by Jimmy's best friend. He is left to look after a genetically modified species called the Crakers. It is a strange world, as there is no human habitation. Due to global warming, New York and a few other cities and even countries have drowned, and the weather is really hot. The sun's heat has intensified, and there are daily thunderstorms. According to the author, this book is set near to Boston, yet within the book, no exact location or region is specified. It seems like a very scary future, but it is in no way unrealistic.
In this book, there is no clear conflict type.
It is slightly man vs. man - Jimmy vs. Crake, Crake destroying the world and killing Jimmys love, and Jimmy killing Crake and looking after the world.
It could be man vs nature- Jimmy is struggling to survive in nature, without any human aid or support, and without any sort of modern conveniences - he can't wash, or dress, or go to the toilet in a civilized manner.
There is also the concept of man vs. society/the human race - the development of so much genetic modified material ended the human race and ruined Jimmy's life.
There is no clear conflict within this book,  as the problem - Jimmy is the last man alive due to the world and the human race being destroyed by a variety of factors - doesn't really classify into one individual conflict type. This is because the human races downfall is due to a variety of factors.
Thanks for reading :)

"The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers"

Author: J.R.R Tolkien
# of Pages: 245/352

Hello dear blog readers! I am as you know currently reading the second part of the well known "Lord of the Rings" series. I am planning to finish this book off during this following week, or during the up-coming holiday. So far, I am happy with the book, but know I have entered a period were it is a little bit boring, as Frodo (Protagonist), Sam (Frodo's friend), and Gollum (An ugly mutation) venture to the land of Mordor to cast the One Ring into the fires of mount doom. What I mean, is that the book is very descriptive at this point, and noting to exciting is happening, only that the three are constantly getting into arguments over their rations of food. In general, I will be covering two  topics today, those being:

Setting. The setting of this book is Middle-Earth. Middle-Earth is the place were all of Tolkien's works happen, and it is a made up version that somewhat relates to our world. More specifically, the region in Mddle-Earth were Frodo and the gang currently are is a place called 'The Dead Marshes". These marshes were a sight of a great battle many thousands of years ago, between The Free peoples (Protagonists) and the Evil. What makes these dead marshes so scary and the reason why they are called "dead" is because many thousands of members of the two sides died here during the battle. The time of the setting is the year 3019 in the Third age of the sun. Tolkien has created his own sort of calender to mark events, and so the war of the ring, and the book is happening during the year 3019, of the third age. Previously, their were other age that passed having their own events, but this one happens to be in the third age. As well, Frodo and the crew are heading towards a place called the "Black Gate". It is a heavily guarded gate that was constructed to keep watch of what is going in and outside of the land of Mordor. It is said to be a huge and black gate, guarded by many evil orcs. In general, the current setting of the book is definitely an interesting, and scary one.

Conflict. The conflict of this story is plainly said, simple. The good powers, or the Free-peoples of Middle-Earth, are fighting against the Evil powers. But, this is were it gets complicated and somewhat confusing. There are many sub-conflicts between conflicts, some of them being small or large. The major one is destroying evil forever by casting the One ring into the fires of Mount Doom, were this evil ring was forged. Then, you have the wars between certain peoples within Middle-Earth such as:  Gondor and Mordor, Isengard and Rohan, Dol Guldur and Mirkwood, and many more. As well, Frodo and his companions must deal with themselves, particularly Frodo. The Ring is slowly corrupting his mind, and he must bear the weight of such a horrific evil that would have the power to destroy anything in Middle-Earth. If we were to put the conflicts into certain categories, those would be: Society vs Society, Man vs Man, Man vs Society, and Man vs Nature (By society I mean groups of people such as the evil powers). In general, we can see that their are many conflicts within one major conflict in Middle-Earth. Look beneath for a picture of the huge Black gate of Mordor that guards those lands:

Thank you for reading my post, and next time I hope I will have something more interesting to share. As the action fills up in the story, and Frodo, Sam and Gollum are slowly reaching Mount Doom to throw the One Ring into the fires of the volcano, and destroy evil in the land of Middle-Earth forever! NL
Hello this is my second book report blog and I will be talking about the setting and the conflict in the book called "The adventures of Robin Hood" by John Boyne. So far I've read 60 pages out of 295. Here is a picture of the book's cover.

So the book is set in late-medieval England, specifically in the Sherwood Forests. There is no exact year, but it is in the late 16th and early 17th century. The Sherwood Forest is logically a forest, but not an ordinary one, it's a royal forest.

The conflicts are man vs society and man vs man, because the society is corrupted and bad, because the king and his followers rob the poor and give it to the rich, so the protagonist tries to fix it and so he robs the rich and gives it to the poor. The second conflict is as I already said man vs man; it's because sometimes it gets personal between the protagonist and the antagonist because king John really gets angry and wants to catch Robin and his men.
I hope you enjoyed it.

"Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry

Hi guys! I choose to read "Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry for this book report. The book has 215 pages and I read all of them. It was a really interesting book and you should read it.
The setting of the book is in the future. How do I know that? Well in the book there are some clues. Even tho they live in a really old way (they don't have houses they live in cots) there is The Singer that tells the history of their world and how it all ended and came to their days so it's future. The place is a really poor village. There is a river that crosses the village and a forest is right next to the village.
There are multiple conflicts. The first one is Man vs Man when Kira and Vandara have the trail. They went to have a trail because Vandara wanted to take Kira's place and Kira didn't agree so they went to the chiefs of the village and had a trail. Vandara won and got Kira's place but Kira started a new life. Because of her talent (she was very skillful with the threads, weaving) she was chose to be the one that took care of the Singer's Robe. The Singer's Robe was a robe that had various drawings on it that showed the past. The Singer wore that each year at the Gathering. The second conflict is Man vs Self because Kira had to work everyday and she had to learn how to do threads of different colors. The problem is that she had to figure out how to do blue.
If you want to find out how she found blue you should read the book ;)
Hope you enjoyed!

Dealing with Dragons

113/212
Patricia C. Wrede

The setting in this book is in imaginary places. The book starts in Linderwall which is a large kingdom from which Cimorene came. The second one are the mountains of mourning which is the nesting place of dragons. Each dragon has his own cave. Cimorene volunteered to a dragon called Kazul. This dragon has a very big web of caves which have a big entrance, as Kazul is a female dragon. Female dragons are bigger than males so that the kids have more space. In the vicinity there is an enchanted forest where a witch lives, in this forest there are big trees almost all identical to each other.

Insurgent: Conflict

For my book report this semester I have chosen to read Insurgent, by: Veronica Roth, which I have fully completed. This novel is set in Chicago, to be more specific in the Factionless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity headquarters; with a futuristic twist to it. The state is no longer divided with cities, but headquarters of six civilizations (factions) that are living inside of it; Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, Erudite, and Factionless. The two main conflicts in this novel were man vs. self and man vs. man. In the case of the conflict were the protagonist, Tris faces against herself after her parents and friends, Will’s death. Were as in the man vs. man conflict Tris and Tobias are faced against Jeanine Mathews, who strives to kill off all of the Divergent.

The City of Lost Souls

The City of Lost Souls

The City of Lost Souls, by Cassandra Clare is the novel which I have just finished reading for my Language and Literature book report.

The novel is set in many countries across the world, in what could be any time; past, present or future. Since the most important aspect in this novel is the existence of Shadowhunters, who are half human half angel. The purpose of their long existence is the safety of humans, who they call mundanes, from the dangers of demons.

The main conflict in this novel man vs. man, which in retrospect is good vs. evil. The story follows Clarissa Adele Fray, who faces the challenge of severing the bond between Jace Herondale, and Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern; better known as Sebastian. Both Jace and Sebastian have been brought back from the dead. Although the difference between them is that the Angel Raziel, who started the race of the Shadowhunters, brought Jace back from the dead; while the Demon Lilith did the same for Sebastian. While bringing Sebastian back Lilith created a bond that seemed inseverable between the two. Throughout the novel, Clary fights to do what is thought of imposible; sever the bond between the two.

Matched

Hi Guys,
For my book report book I read Matched by Allie Condie, I have read all 366 pages of it. Here is a picture of the book:
The setting is in city in the controlled society in the distant future. It does not really say the place because its the only society she has ever known, so she does not say her exact location, but I think they are in todays, USA.  In her society there are some big  cities and around the cities there is the country side, forests, canyons and many other land forms where there is war going on.

The conflict is man vs.society, because in their society they decided who you are going to marry and have children with. This was not a problem for Cassia, she was in the begging looking forward to getting matched. But later on she falls in love with a different boy who is not her match and they will never be allowed to be together. Later on he teachers her to  write by hand (they only know how to type) and that is a big defiance against society and slowly she understands that they have to find away to be together.

"Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters" By Rick Riordan

"Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters"

265/265 # of pages read

Rick Riordan

Hi,
So here is another amazing post about the fantasy book "Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. The book is set in the 21st century (current) during summertime. It starts off in Manhattan, in Percy's school which is a progressive private one. Then the setting goes on to Long Island which is where Camp-Half Blood is located. Camp half blood is a camp for half bloods who are kids of the Greek gods and a mortal. The next setting is at the sea of monsters, which is basically the Bermuda triangle. In the Sea Of Monsters Percy and his friends visit a few islands, one a goddess names Circe on it that looked like a paradise but transformed Percy into a guinea pig. Another was the Island of the Sirens who would tell you your future or other things and then attracted you near and ate you. The last of the islands was the Cyclops island. The last setting before Percy and his friends came back to Camp was Miami Beach were Luke, the antagonist tried to stop Percy from finishing his quest.

The conflict in this book is Man vs. Man. The protagonist, Percy, had just had a great year at his school and didn't fight any monsters until the last day of school. He had one friend who protected and loved him at this school named Tyson, who turned out to be his half brother (son of Poseidon too). Annabeth, a friend who was with him at camp last year came to rescue him from some monsters on the last day of school and they had to escape that trouble and police so they set off to camp half blood. The camp is in deep trouble since the Thalia's tree has been poisoned. Thalia's tree is a tree who was once a girl named Thalia, daughter of Zeus. She has been turned into a tree as a result of protecting her friends and letting them go into the camp instead of herself and that tree protects the camp and doesn't let no monsters in it.

Percy decides to go on his own quest with Annabeth and Tyson to find his friend Grover who was also looking for the fleece and accidentally got trapped and is about to marry a Cyclops. Percy wants to rescue both the fleece and Grover but Clarrise, daughter of Ares, was sent to go on the quest. Percy gets trapped and confused while he's on his journey but the main problem is that Luke, the antagonist is also looking for the fleece and said he will do anything to stop Percy from getting it. He made Percy almost get killed about 8 times and get the fleece for him but failed to get it, or maybe he purposely failed. When Percy and his friends place the golden fleece on the tree and it heals, something terrible happens. They have all been tricked.
