Panem is a country placed in North america. It is composed of 12 districs, even if it did have a 13th district before it was destroyed during the big rebellion. Each year in Panem, the president, ask each district to choes one man and one woman between 12-18 to participate to the hunger games, a cruel TV show that asks those teens to kill each other until only one is alive.
But this year, in district 12, it is katniss Everdeen's little 12 year old sister is chosen, there is no hesitation and katniss volonteers to replace her sister. Katniss will need to leave her family and friends to leave with Peter to the Capitol, she will have 3 days to practice, impress the juges and find herself some sponsors and then.... Try to survive in the nature and try to be the last one standing.
