The Outsiders

The Outsiders
S. E. Hinton

In class on Wednesday, we finished the novel "The Outsiders." In the last chapter, Ponyboy is sick, and when he goes back to school he starts to get bad grades, and he is having trouble at keeping up with the rest of the class. He then is assigned to write a theme for his English teacher, Mr. Syme, and if Ponyboy writes a good theme, Mr. Syme agreed to pass him with a C. Next, Ponyboy decides to pick up the copy of "Gone With the Wind" that Johnny left for him, and finds a handwritten note inside it, which was from Johnny. Ponyboy read the note, and decided on the topic for his theme. At the very end of the book, Ponyboy starts writing his theme, which started like the whole novel started.
     An unknown word: veered
The sentence: He veered off to the right, but I caught him in a flying tackle...
     Definition: suddenly change direction.
