Ahoy ye mates be prepared to embark on a journey like no other!
Jim Hawkins is an average country boy who doesn't mind giving his parents a hand running the family Inn but then a mysterious captain shows up one day. He doesn't expect you to speak unless spoken to and rarely is sober. His roughness creates tension in the small family Inn. Jim's father falls ill and his condition worsens under stress. The captain often mumbles of a black spot and someone called Captain Flint. One day while the captain is out on a stroll. A mysterious seaman appears and requests some rum and the company of someone by the name Billy. Jim has no clue who this Billy person is until the mysterious man begins describing him. He informs Jim that Billy would likely wish to be called Captain and not speak much. Jim realizes that the captain is Billy. Billy replies that Billy is off on a stroll and should return shortly. Upon his return Billy stops and stares fear in his eyes. The man greats Billy. Billy asks the man what he wants. The man insists that he is an old friend who goes by the name Black Dog. Black Dog turns to Jim and requests that he leaves him to the company of Billy. Jim doesn't even hesitate. Jim attempts to listen to the conversation but only makes out a few words and can't make sense of them. There is a crash as Black Dog and Billy begin to lash out at each other with knives. The fight ends and Black Dog flees. Billy in mid-sentence falls to the ground. No one knows what is wrong Jim rushes to tell his mother and Doctor Livesey walks in. He diagnoses Billy with a stroke. Helps him and orders him to rest for at least a week. The next days are filled with the captains grumbles and Jim's nervousness as the doctor predicts that Jim's father will not live until spring. Soon Jim's father dies. and on the day of his funeral the captain resumes wandering about the house and drinking rum. He promises half of his belongings to Jim. A blind beggar visits the Inn. At the sight of the beggar billy is terrified. The beggar talks with Billy and upon the beggar's leaving Billy drops dead. What will happen? To be continued!
I liked the sound of the book very much however I will admit I don't know who gunner1999 is:). I read the treasure island and at first I didn't understand it, but when I got into it I realised hoe engrossed I was in pirates.
