Cults by Karen Zeinert Setting

The book that I am reading is called Cults. There is an article hook at the beginning of the book called Making headlines. It is about a cult that met a tragic fate fighting against the FBI and the ATF. This was only because of the belief of the leader of the cult.

The bombing had aghast people on April 19, 1993. The bombing was all over the United State's news channel. The bombing took place in Waco, Texas. There were rising events to this bombing. According to the Koresh, this building was the Armageddon as mentioned in the bible. This is the place that the fight between good and evil forces will happen, so during the fight Koresh believed that the fight against FBI and ATF was the fight indicating the end of the world. This is primarily what caused Koresh and his most followers to become paranoid about the whole thing and not think hard about how to survive. This is why most of them including Koresh died. The survivors aren't found until today. A part of the setting is significant to the story which is the Armageddon or the place where the fight actually happened in real life.

The two words I am confused about were:
Engulfing: To cover completely
The flame engulfed the man who attempted suicide.
Massacred: A brutal slaughter of many people.
The pigs were massacred.
