Cults :Protagonist and Antagonist as well as Conflict:

The book I am reading as you all may already know is titled cults written by Karen Zeinert, and it's about cults (I bet you didn't see that coming). The protagonist or antagonist of this novel is quite unclear because it could be the society or even the cults. This is literally Man vs Society, or should I say Group vs. Society. First of all cults are a group of people that form a group based on their religious beliefs which are very different from those of their neighbors. The reason why cults are being judged is because of the different religious beliefs than the majority of their neighbors. On one side, we could say that cults are the protagonists because they have a religious belief to follow which is their goal, but the society is preventing them from achieving this. On the other hand, the society could also be the protagonist because all the society might be trying to do is to have a common religion and beliefs so practices remain same and no differences causing peace in the world but the cults are not letting that happen because of their different beliefs. There is no 1 answer, we will just have to choose a side.

The conflict as mentioned in the paragraph before is actually very unclear just like the protagonists and antagonist part. This is because the goal of the protagonist is unclear as the protagonist is unclear and so is the antagonist. If we said that cults were protagonists then the conflict would be the behavior that is being done with the cults and the how judgemental people are when they hear the word "cults". On the contrary, if we label the society as the protagonists then the conflict changes. It now becomes the many failed attempts to hopefully achieve peace in the world using the common religion.
