Rick Riordan- Biography

Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. In Middle School he first started reading Greek Mythology found it very interesting. This is how he got influenced to write many books for example the The Heroes of Olympus and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Rick Riordan started writing as a young adult but didn't take writing seriously until he graduated from college in San Francisco and started teaching English and History. Rick Riordan has won many awards for his books including: 

  • 1998 Shamus Award and Anthony Award for Big Red Tequila
  • 1999 Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original for The Widower’s Two-Step
  • 2008 Mark Twain Award for The Lightning Thief
  • 2009 Mark Twain Award for The Sea of Monsters
  • 2009 Rebecca Caudill Award for The Lightning Thief
