Pride and Prejudice

Hello All!
This week I have been reading the classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Currently I am on page 216 of 325 and I am really enjoying it! The plot is quite farcical yet enjoyable and the language is wonderful. My family and I are also watching the British Television program alongside my reading it, and it is fantastic and I am slightly obsessed. Alison Steadman's (OBE) portrayal of Mrs Bennet cannot be beaten.
Pride and Prejudice centres around the 'Bennet' family, of 5 daughters, one mad mother and a father who tries to escape the foolishness of his family by reading.
The main goal of Mrs Bennet is to marry off all five of her daughters, all between the ages of 15 and 23. She wishes her daughters to marry into richness and prosperity, considering her family isn't particularly rich. Now, the logistics of her daughters getting married are slightly complicated.
The antagonist of Pride and Prejudice is Elizabeth Bennet, the second eldest daughter. She is one of the most sensible along with her elder sister Jane. All sorts of drama happen with Eliza (as she is called) and Mr Darcy and his best friend Mr Bingley, and his sisters. At the start of the novel, Mr. Darcy, a rich young bachelor, labels Eliza as 'not handsome enough to tempt me'. This starts off a hatred between Eliza and Mr Darcy.  Now, this is all very awkward because Mr Darcy soon realizes doesn't hate Eliza, and actually decides he loves her and then proposes, and she says no, considering she thinks he is a hateful and spiteful man, but this opinion stems from her thinking that Darcy separated Jane from the love of her life (which he basically did) and also because Mr. Wickham, a man that Jane liked and danced with, various times, said that Darcy kicked him out of house and home, leaving him to join the military. This whole affair is rather complicated and there is a lot of confusion. Then there are the younger sisters, Lydia, Kitty and Mary, who are getting into all sorts of trouble, running off with officers. Eliza also has other problems of her own, with the man that will own the family estate after Eliza's father's death proposing to her (which she rejects) and then him proposing immediately afterwards to her best friend. The drama never quite seems to cease.

While reading this week I just selected two random words that I didnt know the actual meaning of, that I could define and share the meaning of. The book itself has quite a few words that are unknown to me as the language is quite old.

1. apace
"...and all the young ladies in the neighbourhood were drooping apace." (Austen 194)
apace - adverb meaning swiftly/quickly
an original sentence using apace- "You write apace, but your handwriting is horrendous."

2. inconvenience
"...suitableness as companions; a suitableness which comprehended health and temper of bear inconveniences..." (204)
inconvenience- noun meaning the state or fact of being troublesome or difficult with regard to one's personal requirements or comfort. (similiar to disadvantage)
an original sentence using inconvenience - "I wished not to inconviencience her in any way."

I am REALLY enjoying Pride and Prejudice and I definitely recommend it to everyone :) thank you for reading
