Maggot Moon

For my book project I am reading the Carnegie Medal winning novel Maggot Moon, by Sally Gardener and English writer and illustrator. I have read only 79 pages out of the total of 279, and am already completely  fascinated by this story of courage, friendship and rebellion. The setting of Maggot Moon is Britain, more specifically Zone Seven in the 1950s.

In the novel Standish Treadwell and his grandfather or 'Gramps' live in the undesirable of Zone Seven, that stands terrified of the Motherland, because of its significant  ability to completely  obliterate people from existence. But Standish Treadwell who cannot read nor write, because of his severe dyslexia, sees the world differently. And so when his best friend, Hector, is rubbed out of the long list of people that live in Zone Seven, Standish strives to track him down and ultimately bring down the cruel forces of the Motherland.
