O JERUSALEM

AUTHOR: LAURIE.R KING
PAGES: 25/425

Hello dear blog readers! For our new book project, I am reading a book called "O Jerusalem", by Laurie R. King. The book is very mysterious so far, and the topic is very logical, but the setting I think does not really fit the topic of the story. Nonetheless, here is what the story is about:

This book is happening in 1918, during the end of the First world war. Three people (I will mention there names later, just too make the tension bigger), are forced to flee England. The reason of this is never mentioned, but it is logical to assume that they are trying to evade military service, or they have some other link with the war. The place they are travelling to is Palestine. At that time, the territory of Palestine was occupied by the BEF, also known as the British Expeditionary Forces. The book begins in a puzzling way, the three people are apparently on a boat, trying to evade British patrols. After being able to pass through the gateway to Palestine, they are met by two women, who will show them the place. Now for the setting:

The setting is, as previously mentioned, Palestine. At the time, due to the point that Europe was in war, many people went to Palestine, were there was peace. Of course, patrols were necessary, because of the threat of German U-Boats. When they arrive on shore, they go into a village. It is not visually described, due to the time was night. Though, it is said that the village is a relatively smelly place, meaning that people still live in an old way, Now for the three characters:

-Sherlock Holmes. Well, this is sort of self-explanatory. Sherlock is probably the most widely known inspector of all times, so he has a couple of traits that truly define him: Intelligent, Wise and Curious.

-Mary Russell. She is Sherlock's apprentice. She seems to be naive, and scared, which is not unusual, in the weird circumstances given.

-Mycroft. He is Sherlock's brother. So far, he seems to be a mysterious man, and he is not really described as much, but I will find out later.

In general, I would rate this book a descent 8/10, because of the topic mainly. It is very intriguing, but the characters are not very well described, and I wished there was maybe a prologue to the book.
