Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
Author: Dyan Sheldon
Mary Elisabeth Cep (she prefers to get called Lola) has just moved from New York to New Jersey. She likes to be in the spotlight and thinks she is a great actress. Also she doesn’t feel observed in her family (she has two 7-year old sisters and her parents are divorced). In her new school she wants to make a new start. She wants to be the Drama Queen in school but this role is already taken by Carla Santini. Carla is rich, has perfect parents, lots of clothes and everybody wants to be friends with her except Ella and Sam. Ella gets Lola’s best friend. She has a perfect family but her parents are very strict.
When it comes to the election of the parts for the yearly school theater, Lola sees her chance to push Carla Santini off her throne. She even gets the main role and that is when Carla finally starts to make her live hard. Lola is lucky that Ella is holding on to her and is going with her through this hard time.
When Lola’s and Ella’s favorite band gives their last concert before starting solo-careers, it’s clear that they are gonna go, especially because Carla is going too. If there wouldn’t be the problem with their parents…

This book is funny but I don’t like it so much. It’s more for younger kids…

  1. I like the way you explained what is going on in the story and how it changes over time. I also like the fact that you added your opinion. I have heard many books with something similar to this with the new girl wanting to be popular and so on so after all this book doesn't sound as bad.

  2. I think you describe this part of the book very well, it sound like a perfect chick-flick movie that many people would watch.
