When You Reach Me

I have finished the book "When You Reach Me" by Rebecca Stead.
The main character(protagonist) in the book that I am reading is Miranda, a twelve year old girl in sixth grade. The author drew Miranda similar to what she, the author looked like in sixth grade.
Miranda is a kind and curious girl who demonstrates these characteristics throughout the book. She displayed her kindness in a situation with her friend Sal when she protected and defended him from bullies who were punching and pushing him until she got them to stopped. Her curiosity is very strong. Once, when Miranda received a note that was sent to her, she at first ignored it not knowing who it was from, but later when unusual things started occurring she decided to open and read the notes in hopes of understanding the weird things happening. From that moment on she becomes curious to find more and more notes because they are giving her clues to something she does not yet know or understand.

The antagonist in the book is the time. Throughout the book all characters are trying to compete against time and beat it. For example, Miranda's mom is preparing for the "20,000$ pyramid" show so she can win the money and start a better life for her and Miranda. One part of the show is called the speed round. In this round the contender is supposed to answer as many questions as he/she can in a really short amount of time. This puts pressure on Miranda's mom to beat the time and win the money.
