Long Walk to Freedom

Author: Nelson Mandela

236/625 pages

As this is an autobiography by Nelson Mandela, he is the main protagonist in this book. Nelson Mandela had many different traits and all developed over time as he realized the unfair discrimination in his country. Yet one of the most notable trait that has been repeatedly mentioned throughout the book was his stubbornness. From the very first pages, Nelson mentions in this text "My father had a stern manner and did not spare the rod when disciplining his children. He could be exceedingly stubborn, another trait that may have unfortunately have been passed down from father to son." (Mandela 5). Due to his stubbornness, Nelson Mandela has gone through many struggles in his life including going to jail several times. Yet, his stubbornness has also brought Africa to what freedom it has achieved today. To describe him physically, it is written in the book as " I was tall and lanky,...the ideal build for a long-distance runner...and only years later, when I had put on a few more pounds, did I begin to box in earnest." (Mandela 39). He was very tall, and of course, had a cocoa brown skin color. There is more to be said about his personality and much more examples to give, but for the sake of time and space it would take up, I digress.
