Conflict
The conflict in this book was all about how Gerda struggled to survive the Second World War  and the struggle to keep her self alive even when everyone else around her died. The conflict it both external as in man again since it is a war, and an internal conflict because of how she fight her self thinking if she should just give up and die or keep on going having hope she will be free one day. The conflict was basically introduce in the first page of the book. It tells how everything felt wrong as she saw soldiers from Poland walk through the town heading for the Germans who where now taking over the country and then days later how her town was overtaken by the Germans and soon all Poland. The conflict ended when they won the war minutes before she was going to be killed and U.S.A soldiers came and got them taking them to a hospital. Gerda knew this was her day of freedom but one of her last friends died on the liberation day. She still had fear of how she would do after the war and hospital, she was shocked how now other people treated her as human and how she got food she had not seen in years. But she soon fell in love with one of the solders and in the end she is happy even though she has to wait about half a year to come to America where her love will be waiting for her.
