                                           Quick Summary

- The ship was carrying me away from England to Africa in the autumn of 1938. The voyage from the port of London to Mombasa woud take two weeks. He was twenty-two when he left.
There was a whole vocabulary of much-used words that seemed to be unirevsal among all this people. The best thing was their eccsentricties.
On their 4th morning at sea he happend to wake up early. He lay in bunk gazing idly though the port-hole nad listening to the gentle snores of U.N. Savory, who lay immediatly below him.
The deck was so empty and silent that he bagan to wonder seriocly whether he might not after all have seen a geniune apparition, the ghost perhaps of a passenger who had fallen overboard on an earlier voyage and who now spent his enternal life running above the waves and clambering back on his lost ship.
All of a sudden, from his little spyu-hole, he spotted a movement at the far end of a deck. Then a naked body materialized. By his moustache alone he recognized him as Major Griffiths, a man who had told only the night before at the dinner table how he had spent thirty-six years in India.
But hang on a minute....There was somene with him!!! The two were coming closer, the second one looked like women! The major was one of thoes man who chewed his porridge. He stared at me with pale-grey glassy eyes, chewing slowy. When Major relaized that he have never played poko in his life, neither the Major or his wife would have anything to do with him.
Then, there was the elderly Miss Trefusis, who quite often sat at the same dinning-room table as he does.Miss Trefusis was all bones and grey skin, and when she walked her body was bent firward in a long curve like a boomerang. She was eating strage orange very strange and funny. She was impatient, intelligent, generous and interesting.
During the second day in the Red Sea, the Mantola passed very close to an Italian ship whih, like them, was going south. That deck was crowded with women. They found out that they were for Italian soliders. The next morning the ship;s engines had stopped.
The 1st thing you had to do when you came to work in Dar es Salam was to learn Swahili. He saw many excotic animals!
Suddenly behind his ''boy'' was Black Mamba. He saw it and ran to help him and together they killed it succesfully.
One more acdicent was with lion. He's firend's wife was in the mouth of the lion, but lion didn't hurt her because she was acting like dead.
