The Hound Of The Baskervilles-How Do The Characters Look Like?

The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Characters

Hello Everyone! My previous blog post was about the first sixty-two pages of my story... This blog post will mainly be about the main characters of the story, and how their personality looks like. While describing the characters I am probabley going to describe the way they act in situations, so we can sort of analyze the in full detail so you really know the characters, and become masters at identifying them at the end of the book. So I think it's important for you guys to know that happened in the book after those sixty-two pages.

Let's Talk about the main points in the begininng of the story?
  • The Baskerville Curse- Sir Hugo Baskerville (deceased) strated the curse a long time ago.
  • The Murder Of Sir Charles Baskerville- Since there is a curse running down the family, it is believed that Sir Charles dies because the devils were unleashed and killed him during night, but the truth is, he was murdered by a monstrous hound.
  • Trying to keep Sir Henry Safe- Sir Henry is the closest to Sir Charles which means he has inherited all from Sir Charles, which means all of his money  (800,000 Pounds)and the whole Baskerville Hall which is a million pounds.
They are all from a part of the United Kingdom, I have concluded this because the way the narrator of the book write dialogues or monlogues. There families have not yet been written about, except Sherlock Holmes's brother. As well as their hobbies, it's mostly investigating and playing tennis (I did not make this up, it says in the book)

So that is basically where we stopped, and so many things happened since then that I literally couldn't remember all the incidents I told you, so I had to look at my old blog post. Now we will move on to the describing of the characters and what they have done so far...

Sherlock Holmes- Mr.Holmes seems to be the most interesting man in this story, he is a very intelligent man, and seems to recognize the type of person someone is. When I was reading the fifty-nine pages, I did not even hear a word of Sherlock Holmes in the book, probably because he did not accompany Dr.Watson when he went to Baskerville Hall. Sherlock Holmes is a man that can use all of the clues he is given, to solve the most spectacular crime in history. Analyzing the part with the taxi driver, we were able to see that Sherlock Holmes can find his way across all of the predicaments and find out who it was.

Dr. Watson- Dr.Watson is much like Sherlock Holmes, even though at times he does not understand why Sherlock Holmes does things, later on Watson understand why he has done them and learns from him as well. Watson is a very good at looking for clues, I presume that is why Sherlock Holmes told him to go to Baskerville Hall with Sir Henry. If he was to see the footprints of a hound 100 meters away he would look at every possible explanation to how and why Sir Charles was murdered. Most importantly, Dr.Watson is a very loyal friend, he does what he is asked by Sherlock Holmes (This includes sending him telegrams when something interesting has happened) He reports with great detail and this clearly shows he is a man with a strong character.

Sir Henry Baskerville- A small, alert, dark-eyed man about thirty years of age, very sturdily built”- The way he is physically described in the book. Just like his relatives he is very intelligent, in some cases it is not shown that he is make the right actions but he uses all this intelligence to get out of the rough situation he is in.

Dr.Mortimer-  A medical practitioner and friend of the Baskervilles. Mortimer is tall, thin and good-natured with rather eccentric habits. He is, nonetheless, a competent country doctor who was made the executor of Sir Charles's will. He sets the book's plot in train by travelling to London to inform Holmes and Watson about the strange events surrounding Sir Charles's demise, and alerting them to the dangerous situation that Sir Henry now faces as Sir Charles's heir. Mortimer continues to assist Holmes and Watson in their twin roles as investigators and bodyguards until the conclusion of the case.

What has happened after the sixty two pages?

After the sixty-two pages it is more focused on Sir Henry and on the other main characters that have not yet been mentioned. These characters include: Jack Stapleton, Beryl Stapleton, John Barrymore, Eliza Barrymore, and Selden.

When Dr.Watson arrives with Dr.Mortimer and Sir Henry to Baskerville Hall, he is greeted by the Barrymore’s. When he arrives at the station near to Baskerville Hall he sees many police officers next to some dead bodies. Dr.Watson asks the man what has happened to the dead people, the officers replies that a man named Selden is a murderer on the loose and is reported to be in the moor, killing people to survive. What a nice way to be greeted… When he arrives at the Hall he is greeted by the Barrymore’s that seem to already made a nice meal expecting their arrival. That same night, Dr.Watson was unable to sleep because he had heard a woman sobbing in the middle of the night. When he gets up, he sees Mr. Barrymore lighting a candle and going to the other end of Baskerville Hall, into a room with a window that overlooks the moor. He waits there for a couple of minutes and light off the candle and returns to his room. Was that strange? The following morning, Sir Henry seems to say nothing, he probably hasn’t heard the midnight sobbing or has not seen the midnight carrying candles around the house. Dr.Watson and Sir Henry decide that it would be best that they try to meet the people surrounding Baskerville Hall, such as the Stapleton’s. When they meet, the Stapleton’s introduce themselves and give a very kind impression, the exchange a few words and then Jack says he has to leave and return to his business, catching butterflies at the moor. Before Dr.Watson and Sir Henry leave they are warned by the Beryl Stapleton that it is not safe here and that it would be best if they leave and go somewhere where they are not endangered by the ferocious hound. Beryl kindly asks the gentlemen not to mention a word to her brother because he will get extremely mad because they have talked about this topic, or that she has said anything to them about the hound.

I GIVE THIS BOOK A 10/10 SO FAR! Everyone should read it!
