After the Funeral by Agatha Christie (Setting)

This book is set in London, England and small villages around London. The main setting is in the big Victorian  house called Enderby Hall where the first murder occurred. Then Mr. Entwhistle and Mr. Poirot traveled to the houses of all the relatives of Richard Abernethie and Cora Lansquenet trying to solve the mystery of the murder. The time when this book is set in in the 1950's.

If this book took place in a different setting it would be very different because each country has a different culture and England in the 1950's had a very specific culture. If the story took place in for example in a warm country in Asia it wouldn't make sense because the language would be different, the characters names would be different, their homes would be different and even their behavior would be different. All these things mean a lot to the story.

If I could travel to the setting of my book I would go for a few days because it would be nice to see what the  world was like in the 1950's. Everything would be so different compared to today: the houses (buildings), the clothes people wore, the way they behaved and spoke, which is why visiting London about 50 years ago would be very interesting.

A quote from the book that explains the setting: "Enderby Hall was a vast Victorian house built in the Gothic style. In each room the curtains were of rich faded brocade or velvet."
